Had season tickets from '86-'88 in the Pound. I was there. Its the most bittersweet experience in whole of my existence. I got to experience it all with my late dad, which was awesome of course, but man there are certainly pangs as well. This whole thing with Watson is heartbreaking as well, because with Mayfield, it started to feel Kosar-like. Of course they pissed it all away. ....

Buster Rhymes had ONE season of "solid " kick returning, in 1985 he led the league in number of kicks returned and kick return yards but he did not lead the league in average yards per kick return, he played in 5 games in 1986 and he had 9 kick returns. He played in 20 games during his 2 year NFL career and he caught a total of 8 passes for 149 yards and 0 TD's. He was as solid as the contents of a balloon.

These people really acting like Doug Flutie could've been taken as the 1st QB. In his own Football Life a reporter asked Flutie to his face how he'll feel likely not getting drafted. Nobody was gonna put Flutie high on their boards cause of his height.

There was more to the Jerry Rice thing. Dallas wanted Rice badly. They knew that Rice ran a SLIGHTLY slower 40 but also knew that he ran the same time IN PADS. Further, Dallas felt as if no one else knew about Rice. I doubt the 49ers drafted Rice because Bill Walsh saw him on TV. In the Dallas circles, it was thought that a scout inadvertently leaked information on Rice to the 49ers. Thus, Dallas ended up with another bust #1 pick.

The portion on Jerry Rice @ 15:55 is kinda BS. This acts like he was a deep sleeper that only Bill Walsh was keyed in on. Rice was a CONSENSUS first round projection. It is agreed that he fell A LITTLE because of his 4.7 forty time. But he was undoubtedly a first round / top 3 WR.

@@Tyrunner0097 How so? They picked first and got Bruce Smith. They picked Derrick Burroughs in the first round as well at 14th. Jerry Rice got drafted at 16th. They could have snatched up Rice, kept Smith, and picked Andre Reed later.

    • @Native5

My brother played at Grambling. He was a G man. Eddie Robinson and Doug Williams was his coach. He was told he would go in the 6th round because he played at an HBCU. He went undrafted and was an undrafted Free Agent. Doug wouldn't vouch for him.

Historically, HBCU don’t play the same level of competition as other D1 schools. It still happens today with players who play for D1AA schools like Delaware, Villanova, North Dakota St, etc.
