  • Here is my solution for a replacing Bebop's battery.
    The manufacturer recommends that you use their proprietary battery but this seems to have worked for me.
    A note about mini-Tamiya connectors and why you shouldn't use them: The short main power adapter cable is a special little part but only $3 at HobbyKing.com and ready to use as-is. The Bebop 1 battery uses a mini-Tamiya connector molded into the shell that has its polarity reversed than usual mini-Tamiya connectors. This little adapter has a mini-Tamiya (lightgreen) and an XT-60 connector (yellow). The XT-60 is a very common connector use with LiPo batteries and chargers. Source thehighproglow...

    Hello! Did you know that the polarity is reversed from standard on the mini tamiya plug. Not ran into that tidbit any where else and wondering about it.

      Good catch!, I did not know that. Wow, thanks for telling me. I think on one of my other videos someone mentioned them, I better put the warning on there. Thanks again Merlynwylld

    I just cut the connector lol. But unwinded it from around the metal cage. But u have to be very careful that say otherwise you run out of cable. I used a bigger battery and get 10m of flight time instead of 5 or however it was

    I tried this and it's so freaking unstable but I used a unstable batter. My drone seems drunk. It could be a firmware problem tho etc

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it might be your sensors on the bottom of the drone that might be dusty or dirty. Mine did that and thought the same thing. One day I gently blew it with some air and it worked great after that. Just give it a little dusting and see if that works.

    Hey I did the same. but my battery instantly goes down after taking off. restarting the drone makes it go back to what the multimeter reads. it goes from 40 to 4% after pressing take off and stays there unless I reboot the drone then it reads around the same number again :c

    hows it going my name is jim and i was going to change the plugs on mine like you did and by doing this i could use a bigger battery right just as long as it has the same plugs and stuff and i dont care if the battery hangs out the back a little let me no thank you jim

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, Let me tell you what I found;
      In the original battery pack there is a small circuit board with some transistors, not sure if they are to regulate the current but they are there and the Parrot says you should only use their battery.
      With that said, I swapped it and used a 3 cell = 11.1v which is the same size as the original battery. The mAh will only matter on how heavy you'd like your drone to be.. if you get it too heavy it will use most of it's energy just to stay up in the air. So, you will loose efficiency if you have a really big battery.
      Also on a side note, the rear cover of the drone underneath the battery is a really thin plastic that can break easily. I would recommend re-enforcing it with something like a piece of stiff plastic or something. The strongest part of that cover is where the original battery latches are located (at the edges)
      (Probably if I had not dropped mine from such a high drop it would not have been a problem but it's worth mentioning.)
      I just thought of something.. If you take the original battery housing, you might be able to use the bottom part of the cover as re-enforcement on the drone, that might work to strengthen the battery payload area. (just a thought)
      Thanks, I hope this helps.

    Why not use a Tamiya to xt6 adapter? I ordered a 3s battery under 180grams myself (1550mah) and in waiting to try it but I just ripped the shell of the dead battery for the adapter (dangerous I know :p almost made one explode!) But that was because I couldn't find mini Tamiya adapters in my stupid country :(

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't quote me on this but someone told me that some of those tamiya adapters the polarity is reversed. So, double check before you plug it in. I should make a follow up vid of how I got my batteries on my drone, I think you will like it.

    • @chloemcholoe3280
      @chloemcholoe3280 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I'll! But since I used the stock battery I just used the color coded cables connected to the dead batteries! Soldering the tiny leftovers was hard though 0_0 but I connected it to my PSU and confirmed that it detects the charge based on voltage and updated the firmware and all till my quadcopter arrives. I was on 3.3.0 before I stopped using it :O

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to see them on walmart.com or ebay, they were still a bit of money and not your typical parrot brand. I guess if anything good was that the capacity was more than the original batteries. That is why I decided to use regular lipo batteries instead. Oh and I guess Parrot doesn't make them, is what one of their reps told me on an email. If you find some post a link, I would be interested in seeing them. Thanks

      I was just using a regular Lipo battery 1300mAh 3s because the bebop says it requires 11.1v power. As far as the mAh you can use smaller or larger but too large will make the bebop too heavy, I think.

    Which color is the positive and negative wire ?

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, the red one is your positive and it goes to the flat side of the XT60 and the black is negative and that goes to the hex looking side of the XT60 plug. The XT plug also has a small - and + on it. Also look at the video I made about the battery compartment, it is very important to help protect your drone's motherboard. th-cam.com/video/VAuaoWNx5wE/w-d-xo.html Good luck, Sherwin.

    Nice mod! Is there enough room in the stock battery case to fit the upgraded battery? To retain the stock look? How much flight time did you get? Was it better than the stock 1200mah battery?

I think the flight times were close as the original battery. I meant to do a video on this but I just ended up crashing when I put it on "sport" mode, this thing hauls butt! And here's a video of my failed test.. LOL th-cam.com/video/mjFQP0u_eRU/w-d-xo.html Also remember the more weight you put the more power it will consume just trying to stay up in the air. Thanks again and hope you enjoy.

    • @GoFlyYourselves
      @GoFlyYourselves  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. You know, I don't remember. But what I'll plan on doing is, tomorrow I'll test it out and maybe use another battery size like a 1500mAh 128g and get some numbers. Flight time didn't seem as important to me cause I have many 1300mAh Lipos and I would just swap them out. LOL But if I don't forget, I'll do that tomorrow.
