I had emailed their support about the broken brush. Wasn't happy to find out the tiny brush was still in the handle. They probably should've mentioned the gotcha in the documents or even added a small piece of FAQ for that dang brush.

Rin, I’m a painter and I have gotten to a point where I don’t use paper towels anymore while painting. I use an old cotton T-shirt that I don’t wear anymore and just keep using it as a replacement for paper towels. I’ve been using the same T-shirt for a year and it’s a lot more sustainable and better for the environment. It works just as well if not better than paper towels. Please try this! Edit 2 Weeks Later: I now have 2 shirts I use
Yeup. Im newer to painting (just started with watercolor this year) and I have a set of sweat bands for the wrist instead of paper towels. Easy to travel with and clean up. Much less wasteful than paper towels.
Beckie Hubley the shirt I use use to be like that but it eventually got to the point where it wasn’t wearing even just around the house because I outgrew it. So it just became the replacement for paper towels
The brush is not broken. It is normally used in travel kits. The uneven end is to lift up the pallet. If you pulled on the not broken looking end you would see a brush. I have one of the travel sets and almost everyone who uses it thinks the brush is broken. It's not. The brush is in the inside of the barrel.
i can't believe I didn't figure this out. I guess I was just distracted by other things. filming pulls a lot of my problem solving skills right out of my head. haha

if anyone sees this: i learned from an instructor that our eyes are real good at picking out variation in midtones, which is why we struggle with value. one trick is to start with white and mix the teeniest amount of any darker value into it to get light value colors. really helped me so i hope it helps someone else!

They actually ended up sending an email round because so many were contacting them to say it was broken. I don't know why but I didn't think twice I just yanked it out of the other end and realised my friend had made the same mistake so I sent her a video of me opening the paintbrush and revealing the other end 😂😂

I love this box! I made a colour chart with it and I was quite surprised by the variety of colours you can get from that selection. I figured out how the brush worked when I realised the 'broken' end was actually deliberately molded in that shape. 😊 The next day I got a cryptic email that was trying to explain it was not broken without spoiling the contents for anyone who hadn't recived their box yet. 😊 I got the December one yesterday and I'm intrigued to see what everyone makes of it. 😊

I LOVE opaque watercolors! They’re the only kind of paint I really understand. I’m just now getting into wet gouache and it’s more difficult than the dry version but the color payoff is better. And watching Disney animators paint cells with wet gouache is what made me fall in love with art back when I was a kid. It took me 20 years to finally start pursuing it as a career, but I’m pretty sure-if I can fully figure out how to properly use it-gouache/opaque watercolors is a media I’m gonna use for the rest of my life. Plus alcohol markers and colored pencils. I admire people who can stick to one medium or style, but I get bored too easily. Great tiger, by the way!

I feel awful that i was laughing at the paintbrush and see what Rin's reaction was. Took me a minute to figure out how it worked but it was still crap to work with, i kept loosing the damn brush section in my water pot. It was nice Scrawlrbox sent an email later on the same day i got mine explaining that "a certain item is not broken".

I had to take a class that used gouache exclusively, I absolutely hated how temperamental it was with it needing to be a perfect consistency for flat colors or else it becomes streaky. I would like to try another go at the medium now that im not pressured by school to get it correct

I love using tubes for water color, when you use a pallet its harder to lift the colors and add thicker and bolder layers whith tubes all you need is a little and it lifts so easily!

In one of my favorite novellas, a lady was living in an apartment that didn't allow pets, but she had a big fat one that didn't make much noise, so the landlord didn't know, but she adopted a kitten that liked to screech, so when the landlord found out, she said she was cat sitting for a friend because it was a rare breed. An 'Alizarin Crimson' lol. Very rare indeed. A+ story teller, the lady was. Like, professionally, she was a painter who specializes in the 'primitive style,' and later on gets to show her stuff in a gallery in a college town. It's a good book. "The Cinderella Deal." Obviously a romance, but still very good
Good to know about gouache is that you can so easily pull the colors back up with some water if they get too dry! Happy to see people in the comments saying the brush isnt broken and lives to paint another day!!! I can draw a basic female form. Struggle to draw males. Can't draw faces at all. I usually do just a torso, or a back view. Or with hair over the face.
Gouache is acrylic paint with a mattifier added. Like acrylics you can blend with water, but it's not watercolour. That painting came out so pretty in your style!
My best friend Niña and I really look up to you and your art! Whenever we draw we always follow your techniques and whatnot. In one of my favorite novellas, a lady was living in an apartment that didn't allow pets, but she had a big fat one that didn't make much noise, so the landlord didn't know, but she adopted a kitten that liked to screech, so when the landlord found out, she said she was cat sitting for a friend because it was a rare breed. An 'Alizarin Crimson' lol. Very rare indeed. A+ story teller, the lady was. Like, professionally, she was a painter who specializes in the 'primitive style,' and later on gets to show her stuff in a gallery in a college town. It's a good book. "The Cinderella Deal." Obviously a romance, but still very good

Good to know about gouache is that you can so easily pull the colors back up with some water if they get too dry! Happy to see people in the comments saying the brush isnt broken and lives to paint another day!!!

Sure, I shouldn't stuggle with faces if can draw bodies. But I do! And I'm sure some people out there are stuggling too! Master Rin of Art, teach us please.
I can draw faces(not goid looking), but can't draw bodies. I need help.
I can draw a basic female form. Struggle to draw males. Can't draw faces at all. I usually do just a torso, or a back view. Or with hair over the face.
Gouache is acrylic paint with a mattifier added. Like acrylics you can blend with water, but it's not watercolour. That painting came out so pretty in your style!

DrawingWiffWaffles yes i have work with gouache and watercolor in the same drawing but i always get it messy so I now use gouache for highlights
