TEMPRETURE BLANKET while im not against the idea i am against a 10 foot blanket. A snake or shorter couchbacking or wallhanging or other varient may be on the table.
i would rather make a striped blanket with colors of choice then you can change when you want and if a color does not look right you can switch it out.
I love my temperature snake. I never want to make a blanket, unless it was a weekly... I might do that. I'm currently knitting temperature socks with a white stripe that goes throughout and then one stripe of color for the high of the week. If I knew how to do calf shaping, a daily would be ok, although I would never wear knee socks so...
I wear shrugs because, with some style of dresses that I have in my wardrobe, they're the only thing that would look good on top. Also, in autumn they're the perfect "not too warm, not too cool" garment to put on 😄
I wear them too! I like them for when my arms are cold, but my torso isn’t; with a shrug, I don’t have to put an entire other shirt or sweater on, and end up overheating. I have a couple that I sewed out of t-shirt material scarves, and one warm one out of a wider winter scarf of a very soft material. I love them!
I wore one a lot in high school because I had a lot of tank tops and t-shirts, but only a few long sleeve shirts, so I just threw one on top for the fall months
I definitely get why some people don't get shrugs. For me, I like them because when I get cold, it's my arms and shoulders that get cold, not the rest of me. So the shrug is perfect where as anything bigger like a sweater, cardigan etc is too much material and will overheat me. Especially when I am doing something active like cleaning. For some reason, even when I should be hot, my arms and shoulders are cold.
Yeah it’s interesting how different body parts get cold at various rates for different people! For me it’s my legs that get cold, my torso is always radiating heat. I started wearing boleros because even a shrug has something going across my chest and I just need something to cover my arms, is all
I made a shrug and I've been using it as a light coverage on my chest for when I've got a top that is slightly lower cut than I feel comfortable wearing at work. You'd also be surprised how warm a very loose mesh stitch can be, so it's nice for when you need light coverage. I have a tendency to get cold at work when my arms are fully exposed.
As someone who has made 2 giant octopi, I cannot disagree. I did the first one because I was obsessed with it, took me an entire month with very little breaks to finish and while I absolutely love it the tentacles were an absolute paaaain to figure out. The second was as a stash buster since I had a lot of a neon green yarn that was salvaged from an old blanket I made (which was a granny square blanket, so too many loose ends to do in most normal projects) I definitely love them, but they're currently in a bag in my closet. I can't even sell them because they'd be at minimum $100 for supplies alone, let alone time lol
You could donate them to a children’s hospital. I’m sure they would make a lovely decoration to really liven up the space. Plus so many children’s hospitals have aquatic themes.
If you wanted to crochet a water bottle holder, use cotton yarn. It isn’t stretchy, will hold its shape better, and will be stronger, as well as absorb the sweat on the bottle.
A scarf is an infinity cowl waiting to happen. All you have to do is make a scarf wide enough and long enough where you sew the ends together, twist it once to wear as a hood and it doesnt ever have to hit your neck.
Hairless or very short hair need them in cold weather. For instance, Sphinx cats have to have sweaters. So do chihuahuas. I have a smaller water bottle that I take with me when I go to the doctor. I use a holder for the bottle to hang it on my rollator.
With you on the bucket hats. When I first saw the "shrugs" I thought, where is the rest of the jumper? I have since made about 4 and I really like them all. So, you never know :)
I had the same thought too lol but yeah, I might change my mind one day. I'm not against making one in general but if I do make one, I want to actually wear it which I know I won't do at the moment.
I like a bucket hat with a brim. I burn easily so need something to protect my face. Shrugs are often used instead of a shawl in formal occasions so you don’t have to fiddle with keeping the shawl on but still have protection for bare shoulders.
I wanted to try a doily so I used some neon green yarn and gave it to a friend who has a quirky design style. She loved it! I enjoyed making it but yeah, would never decorate my house with them.
Because I mostly like making clothes, I dislike any weight yarn thicker than warsted. I once made a sweater from a bulky wool, it was so hot and thick that I couldn't even wear it when it was freezing. I decided afterwards that there was no way I'd use anything thicker than warsted.
Hey love! I just wanted to let you know that I am loving all of this content. I know it’s tough for you right now and not being able to crochet, but keep your head up. This content is awesome and a great way to diversify. ❤
For shrugs, I often want something covering my arms which are always cold, while not adding the layer of warmth to my torso. I overheat easily, so it's a fairly versatile garment for me.
A couple years ago, my son-in-law suggested I knit or crochet small pokemon figures. Naw, what use are they? Well guess what I've been doing this spring? Never say never.... I made several shrugs 1 yr as presents. My daughters were doing ballroom, or scottish country dancing using formal wear, bare shoulders... they were overheated when dancing, but as the hall is always air-conditioned, when you sit to eat, you shiver. So, some lacy shrugs that just covered the back of the neck and arms were welcome.
As someone who is crochetting a lace shrug while watching this, it's purely stylistic for me and my wants/needs. I made a vibrant red one before to match my red heels and I love it so much because it's the perfect amount of vibrant color I was looking for to have as a statement piece. All my shrugs are my statement pieces for my simple wardrobe. ngl I also thought there was no point in them at first and then i thrifted these gorgeous heels lmao
I really like the versatility of shrugs. I live in a warm climate, so the majority of my closet consists of short sleeves and tank tops, so when it starts getting chillier (atp in like mid-november) I like being able to just throw on something that keeps me a little warm when it's 65°F in the morning and 85°F by noon lol
Shrugs: they're great layering accessories and can often be made in raffia, which will not add warmth in an aggressive summer but can then be a really cool lace touch for an outfit.
@@elizabethlewis3327I thought so too but made some to market prep and they used to sell really well, but not so much anymore. I think it was definitely a phase!!
Thank you. This was a fun video! Although shrugs aren't for me, I do see dancers wear shrugs to cut the chill while warming, but doesn't impede/hide their form. Bucket hats - I would make one for my daughter if she asked, but not for me. Leggy frogs - I don't see the cuteness. Giant amigurumi - not practical for me Temperature blankets - at least the giant ones. I could see doing something smaller. Maybe a DK weight yarn to keep the stitches smaller?
I like a shrug because it keeps the air off of my shoulders. I think of them like a shawl that doesn't so easily fall off. I also love making doilies. My husband calls them doodlies 😂 They fit my aesthetic of "grandma cottage". I don't always make them in lace weight thread, though. I've made many out of worsted weight cotton and use them as trivets, coasters and placemats. I've seen some made out of clothesline cotton rope and used as rugs.
No bucket hats for me. I use shrugs because my arms get cold and I get hot flashes. And I frogged a couple of projects and I've redone one, and I love it way more. Most novelty yarn I do not want to use. And I won't make giant amigurumi because giant projects drive me nuts (I say, as I'm finishing a gigantic blanket. And it's driving me crazy lmao).
😂 I love gnomes! I crocheted 3 of them and will probably make more! They’re silly and look funny sitting around the house in random places. And my granddaughter enjoys them. ❤
I actually use doily patterns for baby blankets. Square them like a granny at the end and it's super cute. Use a 5or6 mm hook instead of the 2mm and regular worsted weight yarn instead of yarn thread
I am not a shrug person either, but always just assumed it was basically for "I'm cold but I don't want to cover up this shirt/top/etc with a jumper/sweater, so I'll just add long sleeves"
I'm probably going to die alone on this hill, but I cannot STAND the Granny Stitch. I tried to get over myself by using it in a blanket, but no. I just don't like it. It gives me cringy vibes of stereotypical 'old lady' crochet that has been sitting on someone's couch for decades and is clammy with age, dust, and human detritus, having never been removed from said couch and washed 🤢😵💫 I know it's an old faithful for a reason, just not for me 🤷🏽♀️
I was a kid in the ‘70s and ‘80s and yeah, I see granny stitch and it takes me right back and feels dated. I’ve seen so many color combinations go in and out of style too so changing that doesn’t really help either 😂
Hehe, so I have a favorite pattern that makes a teeny octopus, it's literally less than 200 stitches total. With regular yarn, it's about 2.5" tall, with crochet thread it's under 1", with the legs splayed out. One day, my spouse pointed out some super chunky yarn in his favorite color and asked if I would make him an octopus with it. Like a fool, I said yes. Those bleeping skeins have about a yard, it was over $50 for just the yarn, I'm working this bitty little pattern and keep running out and having to buy more yarn. The final product is 10" with legs splayed out. It takes up a lot of shelf space.
Scarves, I didn't like them either, for a long time, until I played around with ways to wear them. I will wear one when it gets super cold and my coat doesn't keep my neck, and sometimes ears ( larger scarves can be draped over head too), warm enough. Bucket hats, I actually really like. I'd rather wear a bucket hat to help block out sun, than a baseball cap. Shrugs are nice in places where the temps change from warm enough to go sleeveless to cold enough to just need sleeves, particularly when going out and wearing a spaghetti strap or strapless top/dress. Kind of like the same purpose as a shawl but not as much coverage. I don't wear those types of tops/dresses nearly enough to wear shrugs either, I would probably wear a shawl though.
Shrugs are great for those in the hospital. They can keep their arms warm without the extra fabric getting wadded up under them. Also shells are great for people in wheelchairs to warm up without big heavy coats. Great for donating to cancer patients
Yes crochet water bottle holders can hold up it depends on the thickness of the yarn you use to the size your bottle a 5 weight is what you can use for your bottle with slit on the side for the handle. When started to crochet I came across a bottle pattern that was for just regular water bottles that you get from a convenient store I twik it by just making the bottom larger and made a slit on the side for the handle been using it for ten years. It makes a good defense weapon for women too.😊
I like wearing shrugs as I'm often warm enough generally, I just need something to cover my arms as that's the only bit that feels chilly; especially in bed at night.
Shrugs are very good for layering for people who are really into styling their clothes. I also see how they could be really useful for wearing some more summery clothes into fall or even for people who have to adhere to a strict dress code at school, to cover and hide spaghetti straps and such.
@@karenalbery2773 i tried using crochet thread to make barbie shawls 2/10 would not recomend using that sruff. (Barbie shawls however are cool for barbie lovers)
your cats combined are like my cat; depending on her mood, she won't let me even come close to her with clothing, my dog I'm not sure if he'd like clothing yet or not but I plan on seeing about getting him a winter sweater, or making him something to help keep him warm in our Alaskan winters
As someone who has horrible circulation, shrugs can be incredibly useful layer pieces (like thin soft material is great for under t-shirts that are too tight to wear a whole long sleeve under) tho there are some bad ass looking outer wear ones too, it's more about how you personally style it
The only thing I refuse to even attempt learning how to crochet are the amiguruni human dolls, which is from a mixture between too much effort and that dolls just creep me out.
If i see a crocheted human amigurumi, I'm just careful not to let hair and nail clippings around, because i have enough health challenges without adding voodoo to the party.
100% with you on the doll thing. They're very creepy and I can't be convinced otherwise lol. Probably one of the reasons I'm not going to finish the couple I started.
One idea, if you wanted the dinosaur fossil scarf, is to make it or use the pattern to make an altered version of it and hang it on the wall like a tapestry. You can still enjoy it without wearing it. But I appreciate your list so much.
i made one shrug and i really love it. wouldn't make another cuz i had to adjust the pattern A LOT so it wasn't loosey goosey around the torso. it was a lot of finessing toward the end just because I'm a bigger girl. probably wouldn't make them again but the one i did make is perfect fall/spring colors so it will do its job when the weather is warranted for it lol
For older ladies, shrugs are modesty thing. It’s very Spring/Summer. You were them over sleeveless dresses typically to hide shoulders or that underarm meets torso squishy bit or arm wings. My grandma always wanted me to wear them to like church or a wedding. Not my thing. Sort of like a not as sexy bolero.
I haven’t made one, but a shrug is seeming appealing more and more, as I’m losing weight, and the skin under my upper arms is getting quite flappy. Being able to hide that without adding too much heat and fabric sounds nice.
I occasionally make a scarf. I have one that I wear hanging down mostly to cover the velcro that I rarely do up. Otherwise, I'm not a scarf person. Bucket hats. I don't care for them but my son and his family like them so I made 4 of them in 2023. I had no plans to make them before that. They were cute but not my aesthetic. We just got two kittens and although they are young enough to train into wearing things I make, I just can't torment a pet like that. I can see it for some dogs who would get cold but most of the time, I don't like the idea of torturing them. As for gnomes, I'm not a fan either but I don't get freaked. I did make some because my kids like them but mostly, I find them odd and ugly. Other than what is mentioned, I'm with you on the rest.
.... Yeaaaah, I'll neeever make a giant amigurumi. Please ignore the life sized 4 meter long Dragonair that needs to be stitched up in the corner of my room. Granted, that's sewing, 3D printing, and embroidery versus crocheting. Scarves and bucket hats, agreed. When I'm cold, it's always my limbs and nose. I also agree with other comments saying temperature blanket. I get annoyed with repetition and if I tried that every day or every weekend, I'd give up on week 2 or 3 at the latest
Re: water bottle holders, yarn choice helps a lot. I have used a basic craft store 100% cotton worsted weight cotton and alternatively Woobles like tubular yarn and both hold up pretty well under load(tested up to liter sized). One big caveat for me that I think helps is that I don't do crochet straps, I use metal D-rings and attach removable straps I bought off Amazon. Crochet straps stretch too much for my liking and to get the proportions to look right/reduce stretch it would take up too much yarn thickening them up. My variation is also more easily giftable/customizable. I can make several "bases" to work with the same strap. I agree the utility can be limited. My usage is mostly leisure trips where I don't have a big bag, like a leisure walk, am at the pool or sporting events (the bag check line can get long).
With the fossil scarf, you could make it into the strap for a bag or something. That way you'd get to make this cool design for something, and still be able to show it off. If not that, then you could make 2 lengths of it, and use that to go down the sleeves of a cardigan or sweater. You could also make more and also put a stripe down the back for a cardigan or a few horizontal stripes going around it, or vertical stripes if you don't mind the design being sideways or are able to designs look correct.
I didn’t like doilies, but I made one with a skull that I could put on like a patch, and the other I made for my glass top vanity to protect it, and made it anime inspired rather than the usual pineapple thing. It worked great :D next I’m doing one in a bulky yarn as a bit of a cushion for my chair.
Shrugs might be something I would wear. I get cold arms, while I usually don't get cold otherwise. I have quite the collection of arm warmers, this seemingly could serve the purpose.
as a 21 year old crocheter who works in an office with mostly older women, they LOVE the gnomes. i’m in the same boat as you, i hate them but man do they make real easy and loved gifts lol
I taught myself to knit. I moved to crochet, faster, feelings of accomplishment, just better for me. I worked on a knitted scarf for two months and was only a quarter of the way done. Good luck with knitting.
I live in mid-Michigan USA and it gets cold here in the winter. I tend to run very hot or very cold, so when at home I like wearing short sleeve tops. A shrug is an easy on easy off way to keep my arms warm when I need it, without adding bulk around the rest of my torso, which is usually buried under the project I am currently crocheting. I don't wear them out in public though.
I agree with the majority of these pointless crochet projects. I have never crocheted a scarf, but my first knit project was a scarf, which turned out amazingly. I don't keep much of anything I make, I give them away. If I still have something, it's not quality enough to use, and I keep it as a reminder of what not to do (it's a small bag of these projects).
Totally agree with you, crochet things you are really interested in. I currently do Amigurumi only, haven’t made any clothing items yet. Just because I don’t wear it myself. But if someone were to ask me to make for them, I’m sure I would😂
Thank you for your content! I love it all! I’m so thankful that you speak in US terms even though I’m Australian the US terminology makes much more sense to me ❤
There's this specific, really complicated Highland Cow pattern that I've decided I will never try to do. I watched someone far more skilled at crochet than I am try and fail to make it, so I'm just like... not gonna even waste the yarn and time trying.
maybe a useful tip for the novelty yarn someone at the craft store gave me a tip to make a base in regular yarn, but only working through the backloops, and then to later crochet the fluffy yarn through the front loops that way you don't need to struggle with not seeing what you're doing
Yay! I’m here when Leigh posts! 0:07. I really love seeing the Silmarillion in the background! Great video, as always! No leggy frogs or bees for me, at this point. That being said, like yourself, I have definitely changed my opinion on some items (as evidenced by the number & type of “loaf cat” and ghost I’ve ended up making this year), but some of more popular items just do not ring my bell, so to speak. 🤷🏼♀️. That’s the terrific thing about art and creative endeavors, though! We can ALL fit into the space and do what makes us happiest, you know? It’s pretty groovy. Cheers! ☺️🫶🏻🧶🧡🧙🏻
Absolutely! The world would be an incredibly dull place if we all thought and did the same things. Just because something doesn't resonate with me personally, doesn't mean it brings less joy to other people.
i did like the leggy frogs and i made one for a friend of mine for Christmas but i didn’t realize it was a trend. i limit my screen time so i’m not really on the pulse of what’s trendy but there’s a good amount of trendy stuff that i actually find cute and some that i despise lol i actually did not like that taylor swift dress trend i’m sorry that dress was not my fave. but we’re all different lol so i’m like whatever. if i see something cute, i’m gonna make it 🤷🏾♀️ also hard agree on the water bottle holders, i have one that’s a perfect shape for one but it also has a handle that i don’t have to worry about stretching on me. it’s not necessary for me at least.
There are messages out that say those life-size amigurumis are fake.....the horse, the elephant, for example. I once knew someone who thought if you crochet, you like to crochet anything( she didn't crochet, btw)....to her, crocheting was crocheting, no matter what it was. Well, not so. I agree w/you...there are things I have no interest in crocheting & do not or know I wouldn't enjoy working on. Amigurumis are one of them ! For me, crocheting things like that is too fiddly. I think they're adorable !!! But let someone make them who enjoys the process. Gnomes give you the creeps....I understand....Octopus do it for me ! CREEP ME OUT !!
Greyhounds are the best!! We used to have one when I was a kid, before I knew how to crochet or knit clothes. I used a knitting machine to make him socks because he hated the feeling of snow on his feet. Turns out he also hated the feeling of socks on his feet 🤣
I refuse to make crochet bathing suits/underwear...gross. Crochet doilies are so pretty but so intimidating and I know my ADHD could never. Its tiny and fiddly and my EDS makes that kind of project painful. I have zero desire to ever make a water bottle holder or wallet. I do want to make a purse that is reinforced with that plastic mesh stuff so it doesn't lose shape but regular crochet bags generally look sad to me when they get misshapen. I want to make wearables but, I tried making a sweater and its horrible. The yarn cant be frogged because its got so many wispies that its locked in. I think I need to practice more before I try wearables again. Oh and temperature blankets. I lost interest in it after about 30 rounds and meh. Not worth it. I wish I could do the micro crochet but I simply do not have the vision or dexterity for that.
I am with you on almost all of your crochet dislikes. However, I can think of a bunch of gifts in the list. But, none of these for me (although I am not above making a cute pet costume for my Jack Russell Terror, but it would only last as long as we need to take a picture - Now I want to make her a cowboy vest to match her tiny hat 😁). I would like to try crocheting wire for jewelry, so that is one off your list that I would like to try. Also, the water bottle holders are great for our trips to national parks or amusement parks. I have made one previously out of grocery bag yarn, and my daughter used it. I'd like to make a new one or two for my stainless steel cups that I love using. For your bottle, maybe you should crochet a lanyard, so you can attach your bottle to a bag or belt, and keep the handle available. Your novelty yarn aversion is totally correct. I honestly don't know how people can use it, although I do use it for trim for doll clothes, but not crochet.
Crochet the tiny dinos, attach tiny crab clips or something similar , attach to the existing rings you're wearing, easy on and off, no material concerns!
i totally get why you wouldn't like shrugs! For me, i like wearing them for sensory reasons. I overheat super easily since i started T, and I cant stand if my chest gets hot, so they're a way to help keep my arms warm while wearing something more breathable on my torso
Completely agree with you about gnomes, but last year I tried the Gnomes of the Gnorth pattern (can't recall what made me do it!!), and I was addicted. I adapted them, made them in several different sizes, and went just a little gnome mad. It was cool too, because it taught me a new stitch I wasn't even aware of till then (yarn over slip stitch, or whatever it's meant to be called), which I still use now in other projects. So I guess, from my own stand point, never say never...?
I’ve never been tempted to do a temperature blanket bc it’s 95 to 110 plus degrees about 7 months of the year where I live! And our winter is more like autumn, rarely dipping into the 50’s. I agree with bucket hats: some people look real cute in them, but not me. In fact, I don’t look good in any kind of hat, lol. I’d love to make more garments, but not the tight, midriff baring things I always see. I’m not young and skinny anymore. I am divided on the doily thing. Yep, it’s granny stuff for sure, but being attracted to the delicate thread work, I’ve inexplicably made many of them. Other than snowflakes for Xmas decorations, I have no use for any of them, lol. This was a fun video, and was interesting to think about.
Cotton doesn't really stretch for your water bottle holder and you can line it with fabric to help with stress. As for the strap, crochet used to be used for fishing nets. There's something out there that would work, just in case you change your mind. 😊
I've made most of these, but I find headwarmers pointless for myself because I have bangs. They just don't work with my hair. I'd much rather make hats.
Agree on the pet clothes, as my two goblin children (cats) would definitely take off my limbs trying that. Also, eyelash yarn is the devil and I refuse to use it. I can handle the scrubby yarn as long as it's together with another yarn, but the eyelash stuff is just horrible no matter what you do.
I know the feeling of not being able to crochet 😞 but if you can my daughter wants a fox spider 😂 and I think the spider from Minecraft fallout has a beautiful spider 🤔🤞🥰 thank you for all you do to teach us thank you 💜
I don’t disagree with your comments on doilies, however, I do own and use several around my house. We basically use them as oversized coasters or underneath things that might scuff the surface they’re on.
Lmao I'm making a shrug as I watch this. I love the esthetic, that's basically it. I like layers and stuff to shape my silhouette. Plus, I'm a beginner and shrug is easy. 💚
The way you feel about gnomes, is the same way I feel about Trolls. Yeah, like the Troll animated movies. Those dang things started in the 70's and I was happy when they vanished into obscurity. Whomever brought those hellspawn back, deserves to be locked in a room with them for all eternity. Scarves...yes I've made one because going without where I live in winter is courting bronchitis. Doilies. Both of my grandmothers made them. The only one I ever wanted to attempt was the teacup and saucer. It was a 3D object...once you starched it. I do like bucket hats, but look bad in them. I want to make a sunhat with a wide brim; those I look good in. Temperature blankets...no. Anything that i have to work on for a minimum of 1 year is right out. And to add to your list....granny square based clothing. No. Just....no.
My biggest reason for Liking shrugs, is that I'm the kind of person that's always dying of heat from my torso, while my arms are cold.. My biggest dislike, is that they give a lot of attention to the torso / chest area, and I'm dysphoric about that area XD
I've made a shrug or two. I just assume that you wear something underneath since the design is very open. It was very simple and fun to make, might give the ones I made to a few friends though, see how it goes. I wanted to try making something simple as my first wearable that wasn't a hat or scarf.
Their purpose, years ago, was to protect furniture from dirt, body oils, and hair oils. It wasn't a disposable world back then, and it was easier to wash a doily than try to get grime out of expensive upholstery. Or just get new furniture. I make doilies, highly textured ones, many people buy mine and frame them or make them into, dream catchers.
Agree with gnomes they are crazy creepy. somethings like the doily i would make in memory of my great grand who past when i was 9 but never to your grandmother's extent and i want to prove my nerve damage hands (not that old) can do small thing., so maybe jewelry too. I think it's what is practical and fun for a person. But there are clothes that just shouldn't be worn that I wouldn't make, though really should learn more with making clothes and accessories. I will NOT make most thing for bathroom decor or cars. i tend to make things and give away so who knows what people might want in future but totally understand where your coming from.
Long-sleeve shrugs are not my style, but I made one for my 11 year old's Halloween costume. She's going to be Marge Simpson, and we could only find a green dress in her size with straps. So, she'll wear the shrug to make it look more like Marge's dress, give her yellow arms, and keep her warm! You could make pet furniture instead of costumes for your pets. I really want to make a kitty couch. But that is dangerously close to the giant amigurumi category.
I refuse to make a dress out of yarn, it would take too long and I don't even like dresses. I don't think I would wanna give it away because of how much effort I put in. And it would have to be made out a certain yarn that doesn't make it too stiff or too see-through
I love dressing up my newfoundland! I have 2 dog's and hes the only one who will tolerate my crap. 😂 With saying that a Newfoundland sized anything takes a lot time to make
for the water bottle thing just make a cover, i made one for my bottle and it stays cold so much longer and it doesn't sweat all over everything in my bag anymore
I made a dog jumper for our puppy when he was a young for his first winter. I have pitties and they have short hair ao they do both have a fleece jumper, not ones I have made though.
I clicked on this video because I recognized the doily that I designed on the thumbnail! It's called Dreaming of Spring Small Doily! It's a free pattern and tutorial and it makes me happy that it's popular on the Internet. But it breaks my heart hearing you'll never crochet a doily! Nah, I'm just kidding. I totally understand how you feel about doilies. I've designed many of them, but my home is not doily decorated. I just like to crochet with thread. Anyways, thank you for the video!
Lol yeah, I think doilies are beautiful pieces of art, they're just not for me personally. Do you have a link to your pattern? I'd like to pop it in the description if that's okay with you.
I agree with you about temperature blankets, but I am thinking of doing a special temperature blanket for my parents. It is their 50th wedding anniversary in 2026, so how cool would it be to create a special blanket with the temps (or approximate temps) from where they got married in 1976. Luckily, we can find almost anything online.
I have a rule - if I dont pick up a wip for 6 weeks, approx, then I frog it... or if its something that has diff colours every so many rounds I toss it. It is such a huge stress saver. The 6 weeks is flexible, depends why I have put it down... am I awaiting more yarn to complete it, am I concentrating on another wip for the moment etc. But like you if I havent shown it any interest then afrogging I will go lol. How much longer till the doctor says you can crochet again? I'd be going crazy or teach myself opposite hand crochet lol
Tbh, I reckon that's a really good rule to have. I've thankfully been able to crochet for the last couple of weeks but the downside is I can only do it for about an hour a day and I have to break that down in chunks of 15-20 minutes. So, progress just slow progress lol.
I wear a shrug I made at work (at a school) and it makes some shirts that I wear outside of work more work appropriate so no more 2 separate wardrobes.
I would probably make almost anything on your list of pointless items, but I really loathe making amigurumi, although I adore the results! But the tight stitches & irregular increases both defeat me. 🙃
TEMPRETURE BLANKET while im not against the idea i am against a 10 foot blanket. A snake or shorter couchbacking or wallhanging or other varient may be on the table.
That is the one thing that I love to crochet. Though tbf I live in canada and our cold season is icy at the worst of the season. 😅
i would rather make a striped blanket with colors of choice then you can change when you want and if a color does not look right you can switch it out.
I personally can’t think of a year I’d want to remember so much I’d be willing to put that much work into, so agreed.
I am going to make a book worm. I am tracking the number of books I am reading for the year.
I started wearing boleros because even a shrug has something going across my chest and I just need something to cover my arms, is all
Exactly! I always get freezing arms and shoulders but hoodies are too warm.
The second was as a stash buster since I had a lot of a neon green yarn that was salvaged from an old blanket I made (which was a granny square blanket, so too many loose ends to do in most normal projects)
I definitely love them, but they're currently in a bag in my closet. I can't even sell them because they'd be at minimum $100 for supplies alone, let alone time lol
You could donate them to a children’s hospital. I’m sure they would make a lovely decoration to really liven up the space. Plus so many children’s hospitals have aquatic themes.
If they’re just sitting in a bag, you might as well sell them at a loss just to get them out of your space
If you wanted to crochet a water bottle holder, use cotton yarn. It isn’t stretchy, will hold its shape better, and will be stronger, as well as absorb the sweat on the bottle.
I think for the size of bottle she uses instead of a holder more of a cozy.
Could look like the Yarnavore sweater and button shut.🤗💖
I would have said to use the macramé rope/thread/yarn/stuff
Honestly I wear shugs just because I like the way they layer. Helps make a plain top look less so, like an anti-vest.
Thank you so much! It's been frustrating but I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying the crochet-adjacent content too 💙
For shrugs, I often want something covering my arms which are always cold, while not adding the layer of warmth to my torso.
I get the leggy frogs!!!!! I don’t know why they are so popular!
Me, too! I despise them. I don't think they are cute at all.
@@elizabethlewis3327I thought so too but made some to market prep and they used to sell really well, but not so much anymore. I think it was definitely a phase!!
Exactly everything you said and temperature blankets.
The idea of a genre-I-read-worm is way more appealing
The worm is honestly such a cool idea!
Giant amigurumi - not practical for me
Temperature blankets - at least the giant ones.
😂
I love gnomes!
Agree agree agree! The only exception to your list I would make is doilies if they are turned into wall hangings.
@@karenalbery2773 i tried using crochet thread to make barbie shawls 2/10 would not recomend using that sruff. (Barbie shawls however are cool for barbie lovers)
Like mandalas, they're cool
your cats combined are like my cat; depending on her mood, she won't let me even come close to her with clothing, my dog I'm not sure if he'd like clothing yet or not but I plan on seeing about getting him a winter sweater, or making him something to help keep him warm in our Alaskan winters
Thanks for a fun video. Your NY Yankees jacket is definitely a fashion statement and much cooler than a shrug.
i made one shrug and i really love it. wouldn't make another cuz i had to adjust the pattern A LOT so it wasn't loosey goosey around the torso. it was a lot of finessing toward the end just because I'm a bigger girl. probably wouldn't make them again but the one i did make is perfect fall/spring colors so it will do its job when the weather is warranted for it lol
For the fossil scarf if you were to use a thinner yarn you could make it into a table runner or for like a top of a dresser or something.
I used shrugs to cover my shoulders in church and at other fancy events when a full coat or cardigan would be too much.
Interesting. I started with knitting before moving to crochet too. And I have to say my knitted scarf was one of my fastest projects
For the shrugs, sometimes my arms get cold, but a cardigan or jumper makes my core too warm
I mean you’re right, some things change but I feel I’ll never start and finish a temperature blanket. Couldn’t do it
Totally agree. I kind of like the idea in theory but I 100% know I would never finish it.
I’m so thankful that you speak in US terms even though I’m Australian the US terminology makes much more sense to me ❤
I have a couple of shrugs/sleeves and I like to wear them over all black outfits for a bit of colour or wider sleeves, if i don't want to wear a coat
I HATE working with novelty yarn but i love the final results 😢
There's this specific, really complicated Highland Cow pattern that I've decided I will never try to do. I watched someone far more skilled at crochet than I am try and fail to make it, so I'm just like... not gonna even waste the yarn and time trying.
omg i’ve been wanting to make a highland cow for a Christmas present and this scared me lol, i’ll probably still try it though
@@tiannagraham5210 Just do one that isn't the Cottontailandwhisker
one! Unless you want a challenge, then go for it. :P
maybe a useful tip for the novelty yarn
someone at the craft store gave me a tip to make a base in regular yarn, but only working through the backloops, and then to later crochet the fluffy yarn through the front loops
that way you don't need to struggle with not seeing what you're doing
omg, could you be persuaded to make a video of this process? it sounds very interesting.
It’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind
i did like the leggy frogs and i made one for a friend of mine for Christmas but i didn’t realize it was a trend. i limit my screen time so i’m not really on the pulse of what’s trendy but there’s a good amount of trendy stuff that i actually find cute and some that i despise lol i actually did not like that taylor swift dress trend i’m sorry that dress was not my fave. but we’re all different lol so i’m like whatever. if i see something cute, i’m gonna make it 🤷🏾♀️ also hard agree on the water bottle holders, i have one that’s a perfect shape for one but it also has a handle that i don’t have to worry about stretching on me. it’s not necessary for me at least.
I reckon that's a great way to think about it. If you like it, crochet it. If you don't like it, don't.
@@SkeinSpider very much so! following trends won’t bring happiness but making what you like and will use will!
I overheat super easily since i started T, and I cant stand if my chest gets hot, so they're a way to help keep my arms warm while wearing something more breathable on my torso
i made a shrug that i love, it doesn’t make me too hot but covers the scars on my arms
I know the feeling of not being able to crochet 😞 but if you can my daughter wants a fox spider 😂 and I think the spider from Minecraft fallout has a beautiful spider 🤔🤞🥰 thank you for all you do to teach us thank you 💜
I disagree on the gnomes & bucket hats cuz i have crocheted a couple of bucket hats and i love them! And i love gnomes
Banned. No gnome lovers allowed here 😂😂😂. Kidding of course, it'd be boring if we all just liked the same things.
No. Just....no.
Not arguing but I use shrugs to set off corsets or tank tops as a lighter alternative to carry than a full blown jumper or cardigan x
I’m with you on the doilies😂 Never understood their purpose
Their purpose, years ago, was to protect furniture from dirt, body oils, and hair oils. It wasn't a disposable world back then, and it was easier to wash a doily than try to get grime out of expensive upholstery. Or just get new furniture. I make doilies, highly textured ones, many people buy mine and frame them or make them into, dream catchers.
I agree there's just something about gnomes / treasure trolls / etc. that is kind of unsettling.
I totally agree with the bathroom and car decor too. I imagine they would get very gross, very quickly :S
😂 With saying that a Newfoundland sized anything takes a lot time to make
for the water bottle thing just make a cover, i made one for my bottle and it stays cold so much longer and it doesn't sweat all over everything in my bag anymore
i have done few pet sweaters for my mom papapilion but then again she lives in Iceland and the winters are harsh
@@SkeinSpider Oh sure, thank you for offering to do that! th-cam.com/video/0PooMyob9oM/w-d-xo.html
No temperature blankets for me. I would lose interest and end up miles behind
@@SkeinSpider progress is progress, baby steps, though I can appreciate how frustrating it must be for you. Good luck with continued recovery.
