The terms “supper” and “dinner” can be used pretty interchangeably, but “dinner” is typically used more often. Regardless, if someone says one or the other, most people will know they’re referring to the last meal of the day. But we came across some shocking news: they’re not the same thing after all-and if your grandparents or parents used the term “supper,” there’s a good chance your ancestors were farmers. ♥

I say supper most of the time. My maternal grandmother was raised on a farm. My father was raised on a farm until he moved into town as a teen. So I guess I get supper from both sides of the family.

I looked this up once because it's always been dinner for me and I went to school in the Midwest and some people are breakfast, lunch, dinner, others had breakfast, lunch, supper, and still others had breakfast, dinner, supper. Super confusing when someone says to come over for dinner and you are told last-minute that is the meal in the middle of the day. So, after looking it up ... Dinner is the largest meal of the day--in many farming communities, this is in the middle of the day.

Rachael, you are a very lucky lady to have a man that takes such good care of animals and that has a tender heart. I cried at Frosty too. From Minnesota, supper for sure. Lunch was a sandwich but dinner was fancy lunch after church.

Love these videos. Loved watching Todd's face before he tasted the soup. Todd, never apologize or feel bad about being sensitive. It's great that you have the love in your heart for the animals and other things. We need more guys like that and that aren't afraid or ashamed to shed a tear. I know you already know it Rachel, but you got a good man there. Hope your shoulder won't cause you too many issues.

We say Supper, we had Sunday Dinner, at lunch time at my grandparents house, they were farmers. I'm with you Todd, I do not watch anything that is abusive to anyone. I know it is out there but no need to go look for it. But, mostly, I just watch gardening, canning, self-sustainable types of videos. Rachel, I used to work for an automotive parts manufacturing plant and come August and September, things got crazy when the new cars came out. God Bless and stay safe. EDIT: Central Kentucky

Here (Deep East Texas) there is breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I do hear some people say supper. Hey Todd, I think before all is said and done, you will enjoy spicy food! The more you eat, the more you become accustomed to the spice and can eat. In the past you would say things were a bit too spicy but I haven't heard that in a while...

In the North of England we call our evening meal 'tea' and our lunch is 'dinner'- as in 'breakfast, dinner and tea' - Supper would be classed as a small meal later in the evening, usually after having a large meal at lunch time and skipping a main evening meal.
That being said, dinner, supper and tea can all be used interchangeably for an evening meal and lunch is also used for the mid day meal.

When my wife and I got married in 1979 she knew little about cooking and she didnt really like to cook. One thing she could make was tuna noodle casserole and as a new hubby I ate it 2 to 3 times a week for months until I said I need to teach you how to cook other meals like meatballs and sauce and lasagna. She told me you cook much better so I clean up and prep but you take over ths cooking. I loved to cook and I grew up poor so I could make a meal from little. My Mom always told me if you keep carrots, onions potatoes and celery you can make a meal with little meat or beans for protien. She was adopted my Italian immigrants that were very poor in Italy so we could make cheap meals with little ingredients. That soup reminded me of pasta Fagioli beans and pasta. We are it alot as kids it was cheap and filled the belly. With a loaf of bread, day old preferably, I still love this meal to this day !!!

Awww, Todd, I am he same, I was raised on a farm, we raised Chickens, hogs, sheep, corn & soybeans. I got all the extra or runts of everything, including calves from my Uncle (if there were twins and Mom only took care of one etc) Dad wouldn’t get me a pony, so I rode my pigs and my calves. One of my calves, Jackson, rode just like a pony.I rode him to my Grandmas and some cousins that lived within 3 miles. Dad was always trying to teach me to “toughen up” On the farm, you can’t keep things that cost you money, you need to make money (but HE WAS the biggest softy too!) Anything hurting animal or kids, I can’t watch to this day. And I have rescued over 400 dogs and over 500 cats, including some chickens, goats & sheep. When married, I goats & all my own critters, horses included and everything dies of old age here. We are down to 6 dogs, 30 cats, 1 ram, now and I try to tell my husband
No, I want to raise our own meat now, I THINK I can (I’m 63 now) but he doesn’t believe me, and maybe he is right🤣 I figure I will die broke, but with tons of love & memories of all our critters. God Bless you both♥️ Lori from Iowa🌽

I'm 31 now and growing up it was supper in Texas. However, we moved to California when I started middle school and we called it dinner. Nowadays I say dinner here in Arizona, but if I go home to Texas I say supper on Sunday with my family. I don't think it matters what we call it as long as the table is set and grandma isn't waiting.

Todd's reaction to the carrot soup is the same my husband would have too. My hubby would have his eyes wide open if I said no meat too and, 2-3 hours later, he'd be looking for some meat to eat thinking he is about to starve. He also doesn't think much of "soup" as a meal. I love soup and make soup about every week of some kind. Everything looked wonderful for your dinners. Also, it is always supper 'round these parts and, yes, my grandparents were farmers :)

It's very easy to integrate new chickens. Put the new ones in a pen that is only separated with chicken wire. They need to see each other. Feed them both at the chicken wire. Keep them separately like this for at least 2 weeks. After 2 weeks remove the wire. Done this for years and works extremely well.

Oh my goodness… I made this mistake with my MIL and I invited her and her husband over for supper and they showed up at 11am, I wasn’t even dressed yet for the day. Now 2 years later I make it clear to show up at 12pm or 4pm

That pasta looked amazing! I’m making tuna casserole this week. I put onions and celery in mine, and then I top it with a layer of pepper jack cheese. Sooo good!

I also can chickpeas and like to use them in salads. I drain them and put in a skillet with a dab of oil....salt, garlic powder. Brown lightly.

That's so funny about Frosty the Snowman....my husband said he use to throw up when Frosty melted. I would cry when Elmer Fudd would sing "Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit". My mom would say "What's wrong with you?". I would say "my stomach hurts", too embarrassed to tell her I didn't want Elmer to kill Bugs. Love y'alls videos!!

Those meals looked delicious. Tuna noodle casserole was my childhood. We had it once a week. I think it was cheap, easy and filled our bellies.

I call it dinner in nj, but my grammy who was also from nj called it supper. But then again, she also called the ‘couch’ a ‘Davenport’

I have a concoction that I made because I couldn't buy it anymore. I make a cranberry and raspberry sauce/ jelly. I don't add any extra sugar just let it cook down and get thick. Well one day I wanted something a little more spicy so I took some of my cowboy candy and put it in with this OMG it is amazing, I put it on turkey sandwiches or crackers with cream cheese. This stuff is so addictive. If you have comfrey either make an oil or just use the comfrey leaves as a poultice on your shoulder. I have both Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and it is a life saver for me. I do add a few other oils, calendula, pepper oil, chamomile but the comfrey by itself is great especially for bone pain. God bless

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest saying supper…. Both parents from the country in New York… but now living in Texas we actually say both dinner or supper and they mean the same meal…. The evening meal…. Anyway i love watching and listening to y’all on your week and your meals together. Thank you for sharing your world with us.

Breakfast (early morning meal), brunch (late breakfast/early lunch), lunch (around noon time), lupper (late lunch/early supper), supper (evening meal. Lupper is something that my daughter started in our family.
