I actually use my bones and meat twice. I just add more onions, celery, carrots, and vinegar to the second batch. It works beautifully. I've also started freeze drying my stock as well. 😯 Talk about amazing!!!
Homemade bone broth has more vitamins and minerals than store bought beef broth, also less salt 🧂! I cannot wait to put up my own bone broth. My husband helps more in my kitchen because he sees Todd helping! Thank you Todd!!
Homemade broth of any kind is fantastic. I found beef to be most challenging for me. You have a great video wish I had seen it before I started learning.
I’ve been known to do another batch with the same bones, new veggies and herbs. Then I mix the 2 batches to even out flavors and then pressure can. I save all my veggie parings, as well as those past their prime such as wrinkled but not moldy peppers and limp celery, green beans, etc. I keep this homemade veggie stock on hand for both soup and gravy, but to brine poultry and pork loin/chops!
My husband and I agreed that we won't watch any new videos that come out until we can watch together. I've gotten him hooked now on 1870's! I love your recipes and your cabin in heaven on earth!
This makes me drool. I appreciate your videos, and use your recipes, often. Thank you so much for doing this. I save bones like a dog, and make broth with scrap veggies I collect in my freezer. My friends used to laugh at me, until I started delivering the jars of pure heaven. Now? They save me bags of bones. They don’t can, but at least they contribute! If I don’t get my jars back, they don’t get refills, either…ha.
I made beef stock this year also, I saved all my onion skins for about 3 months it makes the stock such a pretty color. After shoveling snow for 6 hours I really didn't feel like cooking so I went down to my pantry pulled out one quart of canned turkey, one quart and one pint of turkey broth, poured it into a stock pot and made home made egg noodles and called that dinner along with corn bread muffins. Soooooooooooooo good.
Stock was the very first thing I ever canned. I still haven't done beef though, for the same reason. I was watching another channel and what he does with the bones after making stock is to dry them to brittleness and grinds them up for bone meal for the garden
I bought 4 rotisserie chickens from Sam's today, took the delicious meat off the bones and put the bones and some veggies in the stock pot. I'm 70, I've been canning since 2020 so hurray for the newbies! So much fun and beneficial to our family. Thanks for sharing from Lake Orion, Michigan!!
I have just started canning and I’m 67 years old. My husband and I are really enjoying all the recipes. Also, I have learned so much from this sweet lady!!
I love that you mention that part about not being to old to learn, I am in my 50s and just learned how to can this past year. I would also add, don't be discouraged if it doesn't work perfectly the first time. It took me 3 tries to get my chicken stock canned correctly with all the lids sealing.
Love how dark the broth turned out amd when you guys went in for the bits and stuff left in the pan I was hooked !!!!! I have made some of your soups from other videos and will also give this a try too !!! Thank you so much for being oart of Canuary 2022 !!!!
I’m so happy you’re finally back home with Todd where you belong Rach! Beef broth is something I have yet to add to my pantry but I’m on it! Thanks for all your inspiration girl! Glad to see your face again!
I’m 74 and haven’t canned too much; mainly ugly chicken and such, and some beans and veggies and some soups. I want to can this next. I’ll call a local butcher and ask them to save and then sell me some meaty soup bones. Thank you so much for this. I’ll watch and rewatch this video as I I can my bone broth with my pressure canner. Thank you so much. It’s nice to see husband and wife working together through life including the kitchen.
Rachel you’ve been my inspiration for canning and today I just purchased my very first pressure canner! You and Tod are amazing thank you for all the knowledge and videos!
I have been waterbath canning for several years and I have yet to make beef broth due to not owning a pressure canner. But last fall when we bought a quarter cow for the freezer I asked to have some bones to make stock. I suppose I could use a pressure canner so that I can follow your recipe 😉. Thanks for sharing.
I haven’t done canning yet. I would love to try it sometime in the near future. You make it look so easy. I was also amazed how you were able to work with all the dark broth and keep your sweater pristine!
I just have to say, I look forward to having a beautiful relationship like yours as I get older. Your friendship and love shines through in every video you make together. I also hope to age as beautifully as you both have!! Lol. Thanks for the great video as always ❤️
This year we made lamb, bison, beef, chicken, turkey and bone broth including vegetable broth. The convenience of having broth on our pantry shelves is invaluable. Sharing with family and friends bring so much joy. I roast my beef, bison and lamb bones too. I just started using the roasting pan last year after watching Rachel in another video. So worth the purchase! Great video and thank you for sharing. I love Canuary!!
I have loved following you and Todd. Your energy and dedication to everything you do are so inspirational. You offer so many things to do and try. Thank you so much for bringing us along your journey!
I love watching you I am over 50 and still learning. I just ordered a freeze dryer and I’m hoping you make more videos of that process. But as for the bone broth I will be doing this next week. Thanks you for sharing this process. ❤️
Hi Rachel. One, chicken broth is my favorite. Beef broth will help me even more. I also do vegetable broth as well. They would go in containers and put in the freezer. It keeps longer until I can use it for soups. Rachel, you are awesome, wonderful and amazing woman. Thank you for sharing all your canning products with all. Take care. Maria. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💖💖💖💖💖💖💗💗💗💗💗💝💝💝💝💝💝💝🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’ve never done beef broth before either. Poultry and vegetable scrapes and bones are so ready available but I really want to do this! It looked delicious! Thanks for the video.
I don't have a pressure canner. How long do you think this would last in the freezer? I'll have to try this eventually. My Granma, would probably take the meat bits that cooked off and add them to some sauteed onions and tomatoes. Makes for yummy tacos. Thanks for the new video. 🙏🏽💜
You can freeze it just be careful it’s cool before putting into jar and freezer and leave about 2 inch headspace the liquid will expand its so the jar won’t break good luck hope this helped
Hi I'm new to canning and I wanted to know about canning your own beef broth thanks for the video gave me a lot of inspiration about canning have a great day
Brand new homesteader. I can only jar up 7 quarts at a time. A new pressure canner would be....well, you know...a huge help in our kitchen!!! I canned venison broth for the first time this year. Loved it!!
I've been pressure canning for a couple 3 years now. I've made pork. beef, turkey, and chicken (yes, I do separate the 2) bone broth. I use them a lot when making rice and other dishes. I use the broth instead of water. Beef stock when making rice with steak, etc. In all that time, with the different spices and seasonings I use, I don't know why, but I NEVER even thought of adding bay leaves. I thank you for that. A suggestion for those that want to make they're own stock. Save the bones! If you bought a cooked chicken from the store, bag the bones and freeze them till you have enough. Thanksgiving/Christmas turkey's save the carcass the same way. I will be making more turkey stock soon as I have 5 carcasses in my freezer now. Same with pork (ham bones) and beef (steak bones, rib bones, etc.). Happy Canning!
I’ve watched you when the pandemic started. The videos were all jumbled on my feed; then went back and watched them in order. Six months ago I started canning and watch everything about canning. Now, we bought a quarter cow. Of course I made sure to keep my bones and fat. Excited for my bone broth journey. Thank you for your videos! Now I’m a retired suburban pretend homesteader. My grown kids are thoroughly enjoying the benefits!
I was so so glad that I stumbled across your channel. I am a third year hardener and canner. Nice to see a channel that is so close to my home. I am from Pulaski Wisconsin. I have learned so much about gardening, canning, food preservation and salmon fishing! Thanks Todd! Just watching your channel has helped me so much! Always look forward to seeing your next video!
Great video, it sure must help when your husband helps you!!! I agree with cleaning up! It's so much easier to keep it up while you are canning! Thank you!
I grew up with my mother and grandmother working together to can all the produce from a super huge garden. They would can from early morning to late evening. It kept both households stocked with tons of food. Shelf's and freezers were packed. This what we ate. Not alot of food was purchased from the grocery store. Dad raised cattle most were sold, but one was taken to the butcher for processing. This would fill two freezers. Canning our food was hard work but it was well worth the time and effort. I started gardening a couple of years ago. But I have never canned by myself. But I would luv the chance to try.
myself and our daughter are always looking to expand our canning pantry. Looking forward to try this simple recipe. thank you for sharing your time and talents.
I was able to purchase a new roaster pan like yours from a yard sale still in the box for 25.00. I love the size and projects are much easier. Thank you
I actually use my bones and meat twice. I just add more onions, celery, carrots, and vinegar to the second batch. It works beautifully. I've also started freeze drying my stock as well. 😯 Talk about amazing!!!
Fd does sound amazing. I have used my bones double as well. I love getting my stock on the shelf. So good.

That’s a great idea to use the bones twice, I was thinking of using the scraps in chili .
Great idea I'm going to try that. Tx
That's a great idea karen.

Wow! What a great idea!
😊
what is used to grind the brittle bones?

Michigan Marcia here. Can't wait to try canning this recipe. Thank you Rachel. I'm on to having coffee & binge watching Canuary in January.
Love your channel! Wish I was 40 years younger with no health issues. I would be doing the same thing. Don’t ever stop.

Your brother looks amazing!
Y’all work together so good and the beef 🥩 both looks awesome!! God is so GOOD 🥰

I keep mine in the deep freezer up to 6 months. After that it tastes funny to me.
Would last a year or two easy.
You can freeze it. That’s what I use to do before I start canning. It lasts for a couple years for sure but I always use them sooner than that
Sounds like fajita fixings
I have learned so very much for you. I just LOVE your channel. You and Todd are such precious people and seem to have such a beautiful family.
Now that's some beautiful, rich looking stock. Mmmmmmm
Hi I'm new to canning and I wanted to know about canning your own beef broth thanks for the video gave me a lot of inspiration about canning have a great day
Thank you for choosing a more “simple” or basic item. I am brand new and appreciate it!
I've been canning for over 30 years. I'm still learning new things. What I've learned is if you can buy it in the grocery you can make it at home!
Fabulous looking beef stock Rachel , I can almost smell it... Always a pleasure to visit , thank you..
Just started roasting the bones and I"m so excited. Our Shepard is walking around sniffing the air!
Nice to see I am not the only one who over fills my jars occasionally!
You are never too old to learn to can. I started at 60. Love it.
Love bone broth, especially when you aren't feeling great. A cup of it makes you feel great.
I'm only 73 , yet new at canning. I hadn't thought of the herbs and spices you added.
Thank you!
After watching this video I got up and can 34 small jars of chicken stock while my husband was in hospital. It’s so quick and easy to make soup!
First off, it is awesome your husband helps, my guy love helping me as well.
Those jar’s look amazing!
Thanks for sharing
My mouth was watering. Lol. This feels like family and it feels like love. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
I love to bless my family with a cup of broth when they are feeling under the weather.
I love canning broth, mostly because how long it simmers and keeps the house smelling good.
I love the description of "grandma's pot roast"! I instantly knew exactly what it tasted like!
Brand new homesteader. I can only jar up 7 quarts at a time. A new pressure canner would be....well, you know...a huge help in our kitchen!!! I canned venison broth for the first time this year. Loved it!!
I LOVE beef broth!!!!! It's so very versital - not to mention onion soup. Thank you for making this look so simple.
I’m always impressed by your husband assistance in your canning. I wish my hubby joined forces with me.
Now I know what I need to do to correct my broth mistakes. Well not mistakes that are ruining it but to make it better. Thank you
