When this bike came out, I thought that it was just a matter of time before turbos were installed on everything. And so. . .me being cheap, I bought the non-turbo Seca 750. I could have bought a turbo for about $600 more. As far as I'm concerned. . .the Seca 650 Turbo is a very important motorcycle. The turbo period never really took off and so started and ended right there with this bike and a couple of models by Honda and Kawasaki. If and when a turbo renaissance happens. . .it'll pick up where this bike left off. You have a real nugget of gold with that one. Enjoy the great power, performance and gas millage. You have the best of all worlds motorcycle-wise with that bike. It is a true classic and important milestone in motorcycle production. I would go so far as to say it is one of the five most important motorcycles ever produced.

I had one for 14 years. It was wicked top-heavy, had tremendous turbo lag, it was uncomfortable if you were over about 5'10" because of the airflow off the windshield, the grips would vibrate your hand to sleep, and if you wound it up and dumped the clutch you'd break the driveshaft. But it sure was beautiful, and when the turbo kicked in, it was like being Wile E. Coyote on a rocket.

+Cowchargeif you hated and disliked that bike that much why would you keep it for 14 years?

+HELIRLC I didn't hate it at all. Those are just flaws that it had.

The 80s was kind of a crazy time for bikes and other oddball souped up tiny cars etc

Had one for two and a half year and 42.000 km. Was pretty good. Good comfort and reasonable topspeed, 225 km/h.

Sorry, but I had four of these, all purchased brand new, and drove cross-country with two of them. This model definitely did NOT reach 225km/h (140mph). Reviews gave it a top speed of 126 and mine topped out at 123. The speedo only goes to 85, but I could use the tach to project the incremental acceleration.

Yes it did. 225 km/h at 9.500 rpm in fifth. Not according to the speedo but measured on a dyno.
On a Morollo test bench it measured 68 hk at the rear wheel. Three more than an XS 1100 at the same bench.

@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Irrespective of the numbers you cite, not even the specs provided by Yamaha had it going that fast. And mutliple online review sites have it topping out at around 125. I drove two of them cross-country with the throttle twisted to the maximum and neither exceeded 126 miles per hour. Both were relatively new, stock, had the "power-up kits" installed, and in top working order. So I don't know what could possibly account for the inflated performance of which you write.

I thought about getting one of these.. there was an 82 up recently for around 2k. Had low miles, wanna say sub 3k. tempting but I thought I should get something more reliable and more importantly, easier too work on as it would have been my daily driver. Ended up with a rebel 250 as speed wasn't a priority and it's hard to get much simpler.
