      @@lamesurfer1015 I know that Jimmy Pedro has a great school. Or had… I haven’t looked post pandemic.
      Lex Friedman, the podcaster has been talking a lot of Judo.. he has Travis Stevens and Jimmy Pedro Interviews. They could bring some much needed love to the sweetest sport on earth.
      I watched the Tel-Aviv Open live and the crowd was amazing..
      Another sport that we sleep on is Rigby. The crows in Paris for the Ireland Ca. France six nations game last weekend was insane. Made the Super Bowl look stupid…
      On my note… I was just diagnosed with arterial degeneration I’m my left lower leg… my Judo and Wrestling is done until they can fix it or remove it…
      I’m sad but the pain was really hindering me. I’ve thought a lot about refereeing but I’m not sure with the local politics….
      Have you heard of Jimmy Takamori of Georgetown. I know Tad was running it for the longest. I stopped going a few years back and started teaching to MMA guys… my approach was more Catch Wrestling with a few throws and variations.. I had to hide Judo or they got disconnected. Judo has such a bad name because many say it doesn’t work in MMA…
      Why? Our best representative athletes use up
      Thier bodies perusing a lifetime judo career. Not much left after a decade of international competition.
      A few have done well. Kayla Harrison is a beast. Ronda of course. Rick Hawn did ok, Nastula, Yoshida did well too.. he was well past his prime in Pride..
      Many forget Fedor and Khabib both say Judo is a huge part of thier game…
      BJJ has really infected the USA with a bunch of bullshit rule sets… I respect it. Gordon Ryan is a god. But he uses Japanese terminology when he explains his techniques… he is great, this is why he is hated.

    Judo and BJJ have different objectives. Judo goes for a perfect throw, while BJJ goes for submission. I too studied Judo and have a match with BJJ, throwing them was quite easy, as a matter of fact, they wanted to go down to the mat so they could applied their ground work. Once I was down in ground work, my leg got lock up quite fast the first time. Of course, I learned from that lesson and learned to not go down to the mat with BJJ. Both sports are good and has lots to learn from each one, just don't compare it.

    • @ermining1
      @ermining1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I disagree, your looking for Ippon, therefore your looking for control when they fall. It's shouldn't get to the point where they have a chance to submit you after a projection. By control I don't mean using your strength to stop them from moving I mean following the projection and their movement all the way.

    • @pchow2ca
      @pchow2ca 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@ermining1 Most Judo throw is no longer a throw, more like a roll over. That is why in MMA, just a Judo throw would not win a match. BBJ 's objective is to win a match. Tradition Judo training was aim improve a person behavior and intelligent, not winning a match. Olympic Judo destroyed this objective. If I want to see a good throw, I watch Sumo, much better technique.

    • @avakinzerochill
      @avakinzerochill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@pchow2ca a throw doesn't win in mma because there is no submission. Using your same logic, pulling guard doesn't win in mma either. Look at fighters like Rousey and Karo. They effectively use throws and transition them for wins.
      Also, judo was created during the peace era, just like all other Japanese do arts - it allowed safe practice of techniques and eliminated techniques from jutsu styles that were considered unsafe. Aikido came from aikijutsu. Karatedo came from karatejutsu. Judo came from jujutsu. Bjj came from judo. Judo has plenty of groundwork, but it emphasizes throws. Bjj took the opposite route. They eliminated most throws and focused on groundwork.

    • @lildragon6415

      In Judo, the goal is ippon and ippon is not limited to just throws. You can ippon by pin or submission also.
      What makes Judo groundwork different from BJJ is that in Judo you have:

      - pins so cannot be patient when mounted

    Im glad that we always start standup when rolling at our BJJ school. and focus a lot on throws, sweeps. Our teachers are also Judo black belts, so that makes sense. For selfdefense Judo adds more reality for me, throwing an attacker on the concrete with an Uchimata makes more sense , than pulling guard or doing an sankaku/traingle choke while lying on the street. BJJ should practice more standup and remember where BJJ comes from, from Judo newaza specialists like Maeda, who also was flexible by adding different grappling styles on his conquest before entering Brazil.

      I can understand that. Judo is great to learn especially with take downs and great sweeps, which jiu-jitsu doesn't have, it gives a good edge on a match or fight. But I love Brazilian jiu-jitsu for its ground game, in which a lot of the time the fight ends up on the floor. That's where jiu-jitsu excels and has the huge advantage and the edge.

    On a sidenote, it's great for those "not serious fights" like stopping a drunk friend or uncle without harming them. I think there should be more discussion of this type of fighting, as I have a feeling it's much more common than people actually trying to hurt each other. Take mental healthcare for example, where the usual strategy is to simply employ the biggest orderly around when physical restraint is needed. They don't always know what they're doing, injuries happen. A lot of judo techniques could be adapted for such use. Does such a system exist?

If I understand it correctly, both Judo & Aikido came from Jiu-Jitsu ; it would be interesting to see if you had similar problems, or perhaps advantages. Anyway, good on you for being humble & honest enough to show yourself in less- than- ideal circumstances. Your spirit is large, may it grow enormous!

    I'm from a Taekwon Do background, but I've done a little bit of Judo, and a little bit of BJJ. I found the Judo guy's were far more technical and cleaner with their throws, and better at throwing their opponents, and the BJJ guy's were better once on the ground, and better at pounding them.
