I'm moving to a 330 sq ft senior housing unit in Seattle in a week, but I am bringing my Scandi teak furniture (bought in 1965 for my older sister, who hated it, lol). I'll be using a six foot long buffet with tambour doors to act as a divider between the 'day bed' (it's a twin bed) and full size kitchen. There are spots for the teak campaign desk and gentleman's chest. I'll be bringing my floor to ceiling Ikea curtains (hung from a ceiling track with loads of 20 lb Command Strips) and three lamps. I'm writing to say thank you very much for showing me how to make it work. I feared I would be living in a white box, but it seems that my furniture, lamps and art are not completely out of fashion yet. ;) Listening to you for a few weeks has been like listening to a cousin who has good design taste, but since you're Canadian, it's not unlikely that we are cousins (thanks AncestryDNA).
In a previous video he showed a windows over a radiator that had shorter curtains, and used it as a "bad" example of too-short curtains, without any safety caveat comment, so the comment from the viewer was justified.
@@karencski711I'm all for a commenter pointing out a safety concern. But, put that responsibility on the presenter is putting the responsibility on the wrong party. It should be on the viewer. For example, he shows low, diffused lighting. Elderly people may not be able to see very well in that dark of a room. So, if they trip and fall and break a hip, can they send Nick their medical bill? No, they should know better.
My artist son painted a 4x7 for portrait of an historic Polish oak tree -- and we needed to rearrange the whole living-dining room to clear the only wall it fits on. And that was SO worth the trouble!
Nick, I absolutely love your wit and humor! “Can’t do everything!” 😂 I work as a nurse at a psychiatric hospital and the lighting is awful! You are spot on! Love your videos and design tips and suggestions! Never change!❤❤❤

glad you mentioned sound. My parents replaced their kitchen floor and it looked gorgeous! it was so loud! My dad dropped a battery and scared the house awake. it sounded like a gun shot. No one warned them the material was loud, it just looked good.
My parents’ prívate bathroom door is kind of stuck and makes a noise every time it opens. I don’t think they really care much since it’s a part of the house only they use (except when we visit), but I feel like fixing it or getting a new one would be such a nice little upgrade! Curtain just kissing the floor is the way to go versus puddling, even though it is a lot more work to get just right. Worth it. Puddling just looks like you couldn’t be bothered, and it looks sloppy. Ask me how I know. (I rehung them).
Our house was a custom home built in 1978. We’ve lived here 25 years. As we update each room with flooring we installed a larger baseboard. In Texas all baseboards and door frames are painted white. Very seldom do you see stained wood. We also replaced every door handle in the house with a Baldwin brass knob that is oval. My husband picked them out. These two upgrades have really improved the look of our house. The master bathroom is quite large and we were very careful to install a new door that cut the amount of sound. So o can sleep while my husband is showering. We still haven’t figured out how to improve the heating in the master bathroom. We didn’t put floor heating in which is a big mistake. Even with 3 heat vents the all tile room is cold during the winter. Thankfully our winters are short,
I love love love my wall mounted heater in the bathroom. We just hit the on button when we are in there and the timer turns it off after our preset time. The luxury of having a blast of heat only when you need it!

Tile floors are so much easier to maintain and tile baseboards are just genius. Another thing we’ve noticed is that they’ll paint the wall up to the point where you might have molding. Hi Nick!! I love your videos and watch them all. I’m curious about your tip on the higher grade switch plates. You mentioned brass ones. If someone uses that look, what other pieces around the room or house needs to also be brass? I feel like if you choose one type of metal, all your hardware should match. So since I have brushed silver hardware in my bathroom: towel holder, spigot, cabinet handles, would it look better if my bathroom switch plates were the same?

My late husband was a fan of stubby curtain. During a seperation he had a fire so i went thrifting an found him some curtains to replace the ones that were't salvaged. He took scissors and cut every one off at the sill. No hems,of course.

IKEA is great for kids playroom furniture. Its looks nice, on a budget, and it’s not something you’re going to have forever, so no need to make a big investment in it.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding you but it seems crazy to me to basically put MDF + thick high-quality real wood veneer in the same category as painted IKEA paperboard. Also, I disagree that you can see the difference that easily. For example the oak doors in the left example at 15:00 look like veneer to me, not solid wood. Solid wood tends to be the best, sure, but a well-made product with real wood veneer is much closer to that than to white IKEA paperboard IMO
Please do a video on where to source large art? I want to support artists but large art gets so pricey so fast! Are there any ticks to get digital downloads from artists or something that I am missing? The desire to support artist and budget are in conflict and I don’t want to put random dumb stuff on my walls
@karencski711 I'm grateful for the free content. Usually, if I watch enough, I learn the concepts and can figure out a solution on my own. However, if I want someone to provide a very specific solution, I would hire them.
I would be great if you would include the designer's names of the photos you use to make a point. They deserve the credit. Just put it in the corner the way Suzie Anderson Home does it .

We always buy old furniture. I do the refinishing. Always better quality than anything you buy now.
Would love a video(s) on advice for the process of undertaking a new build. Will be starting our tear down fall of 2025.
😂 The radiator stuff is hilarious! It's like they're saying, "I can't because I'm a victim of a radiator!" 🤣🤣🤣 Okay victim mentality, get over it.
Maybe video makers should actually spend time offering design alternatives, rather than just saying you're out of luck.
I’ve been wanting to change out my switch plates, switches, etc. I’m wondering how difficult it is.
I would have thought that an equally big problem with long curtains and a radiator under the window would be loss of heat into the room?

Wow! > 700 views in the first hour. Your videos also have extensive comments, almost more than any sight I follow. Why do you only have 690,000 subscribers. Lurkers, if you are listeningSUBSCRIBE!
