Regarding fuel efficiency 1. India's avg per capita income is still below 3 lakhs. 2. Air pollution goes down if Fuel efficiency increases 3. Imports go down if Fuel efficiency increases. 4. No one would sell a car if Fuel efficiency is terrible as depreciation hits them harder (and not because they don't care about Fuel efficiency). 5. I agree there is a small segment for whom FE doesn't matter. They choose sportier engine cars. But that segment is still small. India's overall car penetration is also low
Well written…. i dont want maruti to change their take on fuel efficiency because i dont see any competition giving the consumers this kind of fuel efficiency,reliability,low cost maintenance… while there are always german cars who give u the driving experience…. its different from two wheeler market because more than 3-4 companies try to compete in fuel efficiency.
Exactly shumi wants performance excitement and he speaks as everyone wants that 😂 this is india and for middle class fuel efficiency, maintenance cost and value for money is what matters.
I think maruti wanted the replacement for their Diesel desire, now with this efficiency it is filled. In blr all taxim segments are Diesel still ( I am happy we don't have boot eating CNG)
The only vehicle we’ve sold off due to lack of fuel efficiency is the Skoda Fabia Petrol. It returned an efficiency of around 4-6kmpl in a Tier 2 city with little traffic. We sold it after driving it only 4000kms.
@ We did, but did not get any solution. I was a kid back then, so can’t really recall the whole thing, but as far as I remember, they told that the expected FE is 8kmpl, and that it could be due to our driving style. Skoda VW service in Tier 2 cities was an absolute nightmare back then. It still is to an extent. They don’t stock any spare parts, and if something goes wrong with your car, your car is gone for at least 20 days .

I like the 'make the fanboys wait' strategy. I dont hate any of these people, or know them for that matter, but its becoming a market where we have made listening a crime, and that also leads to somehow every vehicle on any channel being rated with nice words and the negativity lifted out so as to not offend anyone. It has become personal for the viewer apparently, "how dare you rate my vehicle badly". There's a difference between a product and an individual's decision to purchase it 🤷♂️. I'd love everyone to converse, but thats a 2 way street, not respecting the one way. For example, I loved the response of that person who wrote to you in your podcast, about how his father and he fell in love with the cb350. There was no hate there, there was an experience to be shared.

9:43 Exactly, Think of it this way, Suppose one bought a Maruti hatchback, he loved it, had a great time, he liked the fundamentals; but got bored or something and now wants an upgrade. Because he's having a very hasslefree and Reliable experience he then upgrades to a Maruti SUV, say Brezza. Now, what he observes is, "Oh it's got the same steering wheel, ok great! Oh same speedometer too, oh same climate control panel, same instrument console? Oh okay. Ah Same door handles? God please!!" And the list goes on and on. And now he has realised ki I've just got more ground clearance and nothing else 😂.
Baleno is still a good buy than Dzire any day. 1) Engine is main thing and it is 4 cylinder. 2) 16' Tyre with 170 mm clearance 3) UV cut glasses (it helps in india for sure) 4) Automatic IRVM. 2 misses Sunroof and TPMS. TPMS can be added and I personally dont like Sunroof.
I don't think unless until there is a collective pressure from customers(which is rare). Had they considered genuine reviews, they should have given rear washer, wiper, defogger, 3 adjustable headrests, all electronic aids and TPMS as standard.
i feel the reason for these 360 degree cameras is that, maruti is most of the people's first car and people learn to drive in these cars and this will give the learners a peace of mind and i can see it helping newbies learn to drive and be confident in sketchy situations
That is so true, bro. I fall into the same group. I choose Baleno over all other options in the segment. A 360-degree camera with adaptive guidance is helping me a lot.
Not only that, while the highway infra is becoming better, the inner city or village roads are still the same - narrow and bumpy. Also people are buying cars like never before. Which means less space to maneuvre on the roads. I have a brezza zxi and the only reason I regret not buying the zxi + is the 360⁰ camera. Mind you I have been driving for the last 2 years and passed my driving liscence exam. 360 cam or at least the side cameras are a must these days.

Hi. Thanks for such an illuminating discussion. I have a first gen 2011 manual VW diesel Polo - has done 73k kms. While the car still runs solid, I've been advised by VW service station to change all the four suspensions - and have been given a cost estimate of Rs. 50k. While I love my Polo, it has served me for 13+ years - and I've never kept a car beyond 8 years. I've always been divided on the idea of selling it off. Have been lately considering getting the Baleno Alpha AGS - after I watched the Baleno - Pivot car video. I then took a test drive and quite liked it's practicality and functionality. Nothing wow about it but it ticks all the boxes. My use case being 95% sedate city driving. I was eagerly waiting for your discussion on the new Dzire 2024 - and after having heard it, Ive made up my mind that its the Baleno thats a better car for my specific use case. So should I trade my Polo for the Baleno? Or should I hang on to my 2011 manual diesel Polo diesel and spend 50k on getting the new suspensions? Thank you Motorinc. You guys rock.
We got swift as the first family car ever in 2006. It was the classic old DDIS engine. My father loved the way it delivered the power in the second gear. Like you can literally over take anything on the highway back then, just drop a gear. Now we own a ciaz which is a pretty relaxed car. Its engine is also smooth enough but for relaxed driving. It still gives around 20-21 kmpl. Lets see if Maruti drops entirely different ciaz in the future.
In my opinion, the real question is why Maruti Suzuki didn’t use high-strength steel in earlier models of the Dzire and other cars. Why have they started implementing it now, especially when no one expected the Dzire to achieve a 5-star GNCAP rating? Was it purely to cut costs and maximize profits, or was it a disregard for road safety, assuming people would continue buying their cars regardless of safety concerns?
I just don't like the direction where Maruti is headed. I drove my friend's baleno and i also test drove the swift(new). The baleno is the better product in every way and it's available at a great price too. I don't get why people would go for the swift or the dzire when the baleno is that great under 10 lakhs. Maruti needs to have some dzirability into their products.
I’m sorry but the baleno is not as fun to drive as the swift. It’s got more body roll, the steering is less precise and the engine does not feel as enthusiastic as the swift’s.
@@ajayrathore8704 Get your hands on the Swift on a twisty road and you will feel the difference. The chassis is stiff which means the car feels like its turning around a point. The steering is quite direct and precise and above 2.5k RPM, the engine has a sporty tone to making it a joy to listen to. The only downside is that the new engine lacks torque at RPMs < 1k, which can make it challenging to start from an incline. The exported one comes with a mild hybrid system to circumvent this, but the Indian one sadly does not.
I was already amazed by how MS has pulled out Dzire so far. Now looking forward for the new Amaze. Btw had the pleasure of driving older gen Amaze(it was genuinely good for what it offered). This compact sedan space is heating up crazy with two launches. Hopefully this Amaze should work for Honda which will force them to launch better products again in India.
04:01 that 0.8-litre, 2-cylinder diesel was SO efficient. Used to get stuck in the Gurgaon toll traffic (sometime around 2014) and still get more than 20kmpl easily. And the turbo blow-off sound made the clatter bearable.

Rear AC went, hill hold assist, rear defogger,, 6 air bags, rear arm rest were once a VXI and ZXI options. Now they are all standard with LXI varient. Which I really appreciate on this car. Most of people don't care about performance to a point. Convenience of the family and pocket friendly is all we care about. Maintenance and spare parts availability of suzuki cars are great. This is a absolute value for money package in my opinion.
Regarding the Fuel Efficiency vs Enthusiastic Driving: The enthusiast market is so low that almost anyone catering to that market can't make it. I'm happy that some companies are still catering to the niche market. However, It's always better to have good fuel efficiency considering the Indian dependency on the Import of Fuel, the high number of people who can't afford 4-wheelers and for environment. We have very high taxes on cars & fuels, so we should try to get as much as possible from our investment in mobility

Maruti should really be looking into a ciaz facelift. Ciaz and updated fronx along with current gen swift, dzire and baleno would cover all segments under 15L
@@motorinc the B segment sedans aren't selling in that high numbers, and then people don't really prefer a maruti suzuki sedan at that price point, the only reason ciaz sold before was due to the low price compared to rivals, otherwise everything was subpar about the ciaz. That's why City and Verna were so ahead in sales and now virtus and slavia do decent sales too, it's better for maruti suzuki to discontinue the ciaz other than a facelift or next gen.......

The last part with the names of the car is hilarious! One of our program director who is a French ginger lady visited our work site. We had booked her a cab and the day she was supposed to visit, we called the hotel reception and asked to convey her that the cab is ready (mobile roaming issue so couldn't call her directly). The reception called her and said "Swift Dzire is waiting for you ma'm"... She got scared and called (from someone's phone) to our manager asking what this means. She was actually taken a bit back and thought someone is 'taking her for a ride' . It has been around 10 years now to that incidence and we still laugh when we remember it... 😂

Maruti doesn't make cars for enthusiasm. In a country where if you make 25k/month and considered a middle class. That extra Kmpl does make a difference. They are out to provide machine for those segment of society for whom owning a car would have left impossible. I really appreciate them for what they do.
Yes like Karthik said this Z series three cylinder engine is the building block for future hybrid - series hybrid engines etc etc but they should have first introduced this engine on the models like the Celerio or the Wagon R. This would have helped to retain the refined 1.2 four cylinder on models like the Swift and the Dzire as long as possible. The kink on the bumper to house the turn indicators doesn't look good. The drls should have doubled as the turn indicators on the higher trims. The projector headlights on the lower trims don't look cool enough. Neither the Spresso or the Ignis should get this suspension. It is the upcoming micro suv code named Y43 that should get this suspension.
I was invited for the launch and got to drive the car at the event. It was surprisingly good. Might have to rethink my honda only approach for my next car.
I heard one story that a bunch of youngsters were driving a new baleno at high speed and the driver chap was adjusting the seat while at a speed and then he lost control and crashed. The car was declared total loss but thankfully the car did its job well and all of them were saved with minor injuries. It also came out later the dealer repaired the car and sold it in grey/black market.
That sun roof is too small to stick more than one kid out of it! Come on Maruti! Jokes aside, this was a well balanced MotorInc First! I feel bad for the demise of the 1.2 4cyl NA engine. 😢

In 2020, I test drove Dzire petrol multiple times, I liked the suspension, engine, light clutch, only area I didn’t buy it for 2 things, 1.the seat is not firm and too soft and for long drives or long hours is not good, 2. For money it is asking, I expected interior and seats is not there, so I went and bought Hyundai i10 nios, 4 years, 53k kms driven, I will hold on to it, the interior still good,
After Crash test all I want to know is if suspension is good(for place like bengaluru) it is sold, which you covered pretty well. Maruti ticked all right boxes now. Few things: how useful is the boot and especially if purchased with CNG(is Shumi's Batla problem still valid?) Just very brief comparison with aura and current amaze should have been good.
Completely agree with rear windscreen wipers & defogger should be must. TPMS though seems like something that would probably still be a luxury. For me a 300Rs handheld air-pressure gauge works fine. I keep a portable tyre-inflator worth 2500Rs too. So far in 2 years that has come handy once, when another car got a puncture and their spare was at 15ps. Then I could help them to get it to 33ps and this was in a remote area where there's no puncture guy within 20 km. They got lucky.
Great video as always. However looking at the madness of e20, I have decided to hold onto my existing diesel dzire that was bought in 2017. It was the second dzire in our family, first one was a petrol Swift dzire. So this brand name has a very special place in our family.
13:41 for a middle class mileage is bhagwan bcoz the a middle class pays the price of the car to attain luxury and comfort but the operation cost is always pegged against public transport. If it's on par or cheaper than public transport it a win for a middle class. Maruti being the middle class brand it has to think about it. Great episode !! - 1.2 NA on Fronx is lit, I like driving it more than my 1.5 NA GV - My assumption is : suzuki is not sending baleno, fronx, GV to gncap / bncap as they might not score full 5 stars due to non availability of 6 airbags on base model - Safety ratings is more of a marketing benchmark which is liquid .. say next time they put 75kmph as the speed etc ( as rightly mentioned by Karthik )

I did satara return from Mumbai and it went up to show 20 at the end of 600km round trip. But was I bothered or relieved by it? No i wasnt. So the efficiency number is just number in our head as a country who wont get bothered with 2/3 kmph plus or minus in long term if the rest of the experience is far more superior

I love how you both explain the truth behind the star ratings, people are so easily fooled these days, especially about how some cars get disqualified with a 0 star just because of an equipment not be present, Scorpio N in the Aussie NCAP is a good example. That said, this is a good improvement over the previous gen, however it still not appealing to me in terms of safety, crash tests are highly specific in terms of their conditions and Maruti cars are still built on a budget with the overall structure not being that strong. I was tboned by a Tata 407 at a relatively high speed (>40kmph or so) not that long ago in my Honda city, when my car was taken to the dealer for insurance claims etc I saw how well the structure of the car took the blunt of the force. Yes, I understand that sheet metal thickness isn't the way to measure truth sense of safety but on that day I was glad I had that thick sheet between me and a rusty old front bumper of the truck, if I could I would share the picture of how it almost punched through the sheet metal, almost.... But it didn't. Knowning that, I would still put some consideration towards have a thicker sheet between me and whatever is out there coming at me. Tata sheet metal do be looking quite thicc these days. If only the service was reliable 😢

"Doppio" was dope 👍 - Since Heartect has been upgraded and as platforms go, the day when the wagonR scores 5 stars Maruti would've effectively devalued the GNCAP ratings so we can bring the focus back to not having a crash to begin with. - The DZire will have significantly higher rear-seat occupancy than the Swift, so soft cushioning doesn't make sense. - A friend's Dad bought the previous gen DZire, knowing that a new one was coming because he wanted "to have a car where you can't tell if the engine is running or not".
I think it's great to have such focussed cars that do one thing great, like maruti prioritizing mileage is honestly AWESOME imo, if there's an hybrid I'd be super happy.
Karthikeya gave the perfect perspective regarding safety...5 star safety is good but basic safety features like rear wiper washer, defogger (just defogger in case of sedans) TPMS , powered orvm etc should be standard which provide driver better view and confidence which in turn can decrease the chances of an accident. Infant these should be made mandatory by NCAP orgs and government to award them ratings or make them road legal.

My friend's dad used to work for one of the Maruti's suppliers back then, The thickness of metal sheet as specified was 8 to 10mm but Maruti would tell them to make it at 8mm (may be to save few kgs)
@ agreed. Maruti has to take the pole position in fuel efficiency. A strong hybrid would have been better in the next iteration as it helps the company build scale for BEV production supply chain and gain in-house expertise in EV technologies, production and software
Crash test ratings’ side effects 😂 In 2023, I was searching for a car for my father. The budget was around 8 lakh. At that time, I drove the Grand i10 Nios, Baleno, Amaze and Tiago. I loved the Baleno and was okay with the Nios. Although I loved the Swift and Ignis, I didn’t test drive them due to their crash test ratings (PS: I am using a Swift VDI 2013 model). See how some TH-camrs and crash test ratings influenced my car-buying decision! I ended up buying the Tiago NRG, but within six months, I sold it due to quality issues. I learned a valuable lesson from this experience. Crash test ratings should not be your main criterion when selecting a car.
I was just saying that although I loved driving the Baleno and Swift, I was biased toward the Tiago because of its crash test rating and the perception created about Maruti Suzuki cars being referred to as ‘Tin ka Dabba.’ Anyway, as Shumi said, people need to make mistakes to learn. I learned my lesson.
Maybe i am the odd one, but maruti have sold me on the design. I have not seen it in the flesh (or driven it) so maybe my thoughts could change. I like that they have not given the connected lights. it kinda feels like the cuteness aggresion version of the desire. Love the video.

For the first time, I didn't watch the quick recap before the whole video. Maruti and 5 star safety in a sentence is definitely an attention grabber. Perceived and actual safety are great in logic and facts but I would most definitely feel alot more at ease mentally if my ride's been rated safe and stable. Cos' I can never know when I'll need that cushion. And better roads are only leading to more and severe unfortunate accidents. As much as I drive sedate now, but in moments of thrill I would really feel more confident in handling panic situations in a higher safety rated car than otherwise.

Absolutely agree on the VW's 1.5 TSI start stop experience. It's so bad that once I start my car, the start stop is the 1st button I reach to turn it off.

I commented almost same things on Carwale's post of Citroen Aircross' zero star Latin NCAP rating just yesterday. People began calling it unsafe without seeing that the report mentioned it being valid for Latin American market and the car's floor is rated stable.

This is the most important launch for Maruti Suzuki this year. The 5 star rating is only for PR, it will not change much. The Brezza was already 4 star rated and did not dent the Nexon sales as much. Glad to see Maruti taking safety as one of the priorities with thier usual good things along with it
Hey! Why don't you guys do an in-depth review of the bajaj dominar 400? Yeah i know shumi sir kind of hates the motorcycle because it's front end is heavier and the weight too But if observed carefully it's the best part of it, I've riden the duke, speed 400 and g310r But the best thing about dominar is it's stability, the heavy front end helps it to not get wobbly under cross winds or when you overtake a truck closely at high speeds. Shumi is for sure the better observer here and we really want his opinion on dominar again with not a 7 minute video, we want a dominar review from shumi sir! It's much awaited and needed now
I had an small accident on my dzire and i got tensed about replacement cost but the company is said only 2500 that's when I really Maruti Suzuki I choose was the best decision I ever made
I've read somewhere that they got a higher tensile strength steel with yield strength of 960 MPa or something like that for Dzire. They were able to put this into the Dzire because it is currently being manufactured by the Indian Steel industry which previously was not possible. It would have to be imported which would be prohibitively expensive or not possible at all. Now that Indian Steel industry has caught up, we can see more manufacturers using it. I think the recently facelifted Nissan Magnite also talks about high tensile steel being used in it.
Kudos to Suzuki for going the extra mile and reenforcing the structure. 👏 You see adding High strength steel in the load paths was never a big challenge but they only did this after all the backlash they got :) So people who criticized suzuki for poor star rating should also be credited for this change. Karthik mentioned the weight has gone up by only 40kg, BUT..... this car must have saved a good amount of weight with the downsized 3 cylinder engine whereas the Baleno still has old 4 cylinder engine hence the 100kg weight difference is seen, so i guess the structural changes done to Dzire and Baleno are probably identical.

Well written…. i dont want maruti to change their take on fuel efficiency because i dont see any competition giving the consumers this kind of fuel efficiency,reliability,low cost maintenance… while there are always german cars who give u the driving experience…. its different from two wheeler market because more than 3-4 companies try to compete in fuel efficiency.

The only vehicle we’ve sold off due to lack of fuel efficiency is the Skoda Fabia Petrol. It returned an efficiency of around 4-6kmpl in a Tier 2 city with little traffic. We sold it after driving it only 4000kms.

@ We did, but did not get any solution. I was a kid back then, so can’t really recall the whole thing, but as far as I remember, they told that the expected FE is 8kmpl, and that it could be due to our driving style.
Skoda VW service in Tier 2 cities was an absolute nightmare back then. It still is to an extent. They don’t stock any spare parts, and if something goes wrong with your car, your car is gone for at least 20 days .

I like the 'make the fanboys wait' strategy. I dont hate any of these people, or know them for that matter, but its becoming a market where we have made listening a crime, and that also leads to somehow every vehicle on any channel being rated with nice words and the negativity lifted out so as to not offend anyone. It has become personal for the viewer apparently, "how dare you rate my vehicle badly". There's a difference between a product and an individual's decision to purchase it 🤷♂️.

1) Engine is main thing and it is 4 cylinder.
2) 16' Tyre with 170 mm clearance
3) UV cut glasses (it helps in india for sure)
4) Automatic IRVM.
2 misses Sunroof and TPMS. TPMS can be added and I personally dont like Sunroof.

I don't think unless until there is a collective pressure from customers(which is rare). Had they considered genuine reviews, they should have given rear washer, wiper, defogger, 3 adjustable headrests, all electronic aids and TPMS as standard.

i feel the reason for these 360 degree cameras is that, maruti is most of the people's first car and people learn to drive in these cars and this will give the learners a peace of mind and i can see it helping newbies learn to drive and be confident in sketchy situations
That is so true, bro. I fall into the same group. I choose Baleno over all other options in the segment. A 360-degree camera with adaptive guidance is helping me a lot.

Not only that, while the highway infra is becoming better, the inner city or village roads are still the same - narrow and bumpy. Also people are buying cars like never before. Which means less space to maneuvre on the roads. I have a brezza zxi and the only reason I regret not buying the zxi + is the 360⁰ camera. Mind you I have been driving for the last 2 years and passed my driving liscence exam. 360 cam or at least the side cameras are a must these days.

I have a first gen 2011 manual VW diesel Polo - has done 73k kms. While the car still runs solid, I've been advised by VW service station to change all the four suspensions - and have been given a cost estimate of Rs. 50k.
While I love my Polo, it has served me for 13+ years - and I've never kept a car beyond 8 years.
I've always been divided on the idea of selling it off.
Have been lately considering getting the Baleno Alpha AGS - after I watched the Baleno - Pivot car video. I then took a test drive and quite liked it's practicality and functionality. Nothing wow about it but it ticks all the boxes. My use case being 95% sedate city driving.
I was eagerly waiting for your discussion on the new Dzire 2024 - and after having heard it, Ive made up my mind that its the Baleno thats a better car for my specific use case.
So should I trade my Polo for the Baleno?
Or should I hang on to my 2011 manual diesel Polo diesel and spend 50k on getting the new suspensions?

We got swift as the first family car ever in 2006. It was the classic old DDIS engine. My father loved the way it delivered the power in the second gear. Like you can literally over take anything on the highway back then, just drop a gear.
Now we own a ciaz which is a pretty relaxed car. Its engine is also smooth enough but for relaxed driving. It still gives around 20-21 kmpl. Lets see if Maruti drops entirely different ciaz in the future.

In my opinion, the real question is why Maruti Suzuki didn’t use high-strength steel in earlier models of the Dzire and other cars. Why have they started implementing it now, especially when no one expected the Dzire to achieve a 5-star GNCAP rating? Was it purely to cut costs and maximize profits, or was it a disregard for road safety, assuming people would continue buying their cars regardless of safety concerns?

I just don't like the direction where Maruti is headed. I drove my friend's baleno and i also test drove the swift(new). The baleno is the better product in every way and it's available at a great price too. I don't get why people would go for the swift or the dzire when the baleno is that great under 10 lakhs. Maruti needs to have some dzirability into their products.

I’m sorry but the baleno is not as fun to drive as the swift. It’s got more body roll, the steering is less precise and the engine does not feel as enthusiastic as the swift’s.

@@ajayrathore8704 Get your hands on the Swift on a twisty road and you will feel the difference. The chassis is stiff which means the car feels like its turning around a point. The steering is quite direct and precise and above 2.5k RPM, the engine has a sporty tone to making it a joy to listen to. The only downside is that the new engine lacks torque at RPMs < 1k, which can make it challenging to start from an incline. The exported one comes with a mild hybrid system to circumvent this, but the Indian one sadly does not.
Shumi's AURA with the quick summary always AMAZE me and the DZIRE to come back to motorinc again and again is just Tigorous.
I was already amazed by how MS has pulled out Dzire so far. Now looking forward for the new Amaze. Btw had the pleasure of driving older gen Amaze(it was genuinely good for what it offered). This compact sedan space is heating up crazy with two launches. Hopefully this Amaze should work for Honda which will force them to launch better products again in India.

04:01 that 0.8-litre, 2-cylinder diesel was SO efficient. Used to get stuck in the Gurgaon toll traffic (sometime around 2014) and still get more than 20kmpl easily. And the turbo blow-off sound made the clatter bearable.

Rear AC went, hill hold assist, rear defogger,, 6 air bags, rear arm rest were once a VXI and ZXI options. Now they are all standard with LXI varient. Which I really appreciate on this car. Most of people don't care about performance to a point. Convenience of the family and pocket friendly is all we care about. Maintenance and spare parts availability of suzuki cars are great. This is a absolute value for money package in my opinion.
Regarding the Fuel Efficiency vs Enthusiastic Driving:
The enthusiast market is so low that almost anyone catering to that market can't make it. I'm happy that some companies are still catering to the niche market. However, It's always better to have good fuel efficiency considering the Indian dependency on the Import of Fuel, the high number of people who can't afford 4-wheelers and for environment. We have very high taxes on cars & fuels, so we should try to get as much as possible from our investment in mobility

Maruti should really be looking into a ciaz facelift. Ciaz and updated fronx along with current gen swift, dzire and baleno would cover all segments under 15L

@@motorinc the B segment sedans aren't selling in that high numbers, and then people don't really prefer a maruti suzuki sedan at that price point, the only reason ciaz sold before was due to the low price compared to rivals, otherwise everything was subpar about the ciaz. That's why City and Verna were so ahead in sales and now virtus and slavia do decent sales too, it's better for maruti suzuki to discontinue the ciaz other than a facelift or next gen.......

One of our program director who is a French ginger lady visited our work site. We had booked her a cab and the day she was supposed to visit, we called the hotel reception and asked to convey her that the cab is ready (mobile roaming issue so couldn't call her directly). The reception called her and said "Swift Dzire is waiting for you ma'm"... She got scared and called (from someone's phone) to our manager asking what this means. She was actually taken a bit back and thought someone is 'taking her for a ride' . It has been around 10 years now to that incidence and we still laugh when we remember it... 😂

Maruti doesn't make cars for enthusiasm. In a country where if you make 25k/month and considered a middle class. That extra Kmpl does make a difference. They are out to provide machine for those segment of society for whom owning a car would have left impossible. I really appreciate them for what they do.

Yes like Karthik said this Z series three cylinder engine is the building block for future hybrid - series hybrid engines etc etc but they should have first introduced this engine on the models like the Celerio or the Wagon R. This would have helped to retain the refined 1.2 four cylinder on models like the Swift and the Dzire as long as possible. The kink on the bumper to house the turn indicators doesn't look good. The drls should have doubled as the turn indicators on the higher trims. The projector headlights on the lower trims don't look cool enough. Neither the Spresso or the Ignis should get this suspension. It is the upcoming micro suv code named Y43 that should get this suspension.

I heard one story that a bunch of youngsters were driving a new baleno at high speed and the driver chap was adjusting the seat while at a speed and then he lost control and crashed. The car was declared total loss but thankfully the car did its job well and all of them were saved with minor injuries. It also came out later the dealer repaired the car and sold it in grey/black market.

In 2020, I test drove Dzire petrol multiple times, I liked the suspension, engine, light clutch, only area I didn’t buy it for 2 things, 1.the seat is not firm and too soft and for long drives or long hours is not good, 2. For money it is asking, I expected interior and seats is not there, so I went and bought Hyundai i10 nios, 4 years, 53k kms driven, I will hold on to it, the interior still good,

Just very brief comparison with aura and current amaze should have been good.
Amaze - since the new one is around the corner, we didn’t. Aura - because of the rear suspension is not a great pick for the backseat.
Completely agree with rear windscreen wipers & defogger should be must. TPMS though seems like something that would probably still be a luxury. For me a 300Rs handheld air-pressure gauge works fine. I keep a portable tyre-inflator worth 2500Rs too. So far in 2 years that has come handy once, when another car got a puncture and their spare was at 15ps. Then I could help them to get it to 33ps and this was in a remote area where there's no puncture guy within 20 km. They got lucky.
TPMS can be a safety net for people who aren't as careful in checking their tyre pressures regularly @vaibhavdlv!

Great video as always. However looking at the madness of e20, I have decided to hold onto my existing diesel dzire that was bought in 2017. It was the second dzire in our family, first one was a petrol Swift dzire. So this brand name has a very special place in our family.
13:41 for a middle class mileage is bhagwan bcoz the a middle class pays the price of the car to attain luxury and comfort but the operation cost is always pegged against public transport. If it's on par or cheaper than public transport it a win for a middle class. Maruti being the middle class brand it has to think about it. Maruti understands Indians more than we Indians understands ourselves. They didn't go for GNCAP back then bcoz they read that the buyers not to worried about it but now they do. Btw about fuel efficiency, I drive a 13 year old Brio, and my usual indicated efficiency shows 12/13 in city. I did satara return from Mumbai and it went up to show 20 at the end of 600km round trip. But was I bothered or relieved by it? No i wasnt. So the efficiency number is just number in our head as a country who wont get bothered with 2/3 kmph plus or minus in long term if the rest of the experience is far more superior

I love how you both explain the truth behind the star ratings, people are so easily fooled these days, especially about how some cars get disqualified with a 0 star just because of an equipment not be present, Scorpio N in the Aussie NCAP is a good example.
That said, this is a good improvement over the previous gen, however it still not appealing to me in terms of safety, crash tests are highly specific in terms of their conditions and Maruti cars are still built on a budget with the overall structure not being that strong.
I was tboned by a Tata 407 at a relatively high speed (>40kmph or so) not that long ago in my Honda city, when my car was taken to the dealer for insurance claims etc I saw how well the structure of the car took the blunt of the force. Yes, I understand that sheet metal thickness isn't the way to measure truth sense of safety but on that day I was glad I had that thick sheet between me and a rusty old front bumper of the truck, if I could I would share the picture of how it almost punched through the sheet metal, almost.... But it didn't.
Knowning that, I would still put some consideration towards have a thicker sheet between me and whatever is out there coming at me.
Tata sheet metal do be looking quite thicc these days. If only the service was reliable 😢

- Since Heartect has been upgraded and as platforms go, the day when the wagonR scores 5 stars Maruti would've effectively devalued the GNCAP ratings so we can bring the focus back to not having a crash to begin with.
- The DZire will have significantly higher rear-seat occupancy than the Swift, so soft cushioning doesn't make sense.
- A friend's Dad bought the previous gen DZire, knowing that a new one was coming because he wanted "to have a car where you can't tell if the engine is running or not".

I think it's great to have such focussed cars that do one thing great, like maruti prioritizing mileage is honestly AWESOME imo, if there's an hybrid I'd be super happy.
Karthikeya gave the perfect perspective regarding safety...5 star safety is good but basic safety features like rear wiper washer, defogger (just defogger in case of sedans) TPMS , powered orvm etc should be standard which provide driver better view and confidence which in turn can decrease the chances of an accident. Infant these should be made mandatory by NCAP orgs and government to award them ratings or make them road legal.

My friend's dad used to work for one of the Maruti's suppliers back then, The thickness of metal sheet as specified was 8 to 10mm but Maruti would tell them to make it at 8mm (may be to save few kgs)

Crash test ratings’ side effects 😂
In 2023, I was searching for a car for my father. The budget was around 8 lakh. At that time, I drove the Grand i10 Nios, Baleno, Amaze and Tiago. I loved the Baleno and was okay with the Nios. Although I loved the Swift and Ignis, I didn’t test drive them due to their crash test ratings (PS: I am using a Swift VDI 2013 model). See how some TH-camrs and crash test ratings influenced my car-buying decision!
I ended up buying the Tiago NRG, but within six months, I sold it due to quality issues. I learned a valuable lesson from this experience.
Crash test ratings should not be your main criterion when selecting a car.

I was just saying that although I loved driving the Baleno and Swift, I was biased toward the Tiago because of its crash test rating and the perception created about Maruti Suzuki cars being referred to as ‘Tin ka Dabba.’ Anyway, as Shumi said, people need to make mistakes to learn. I learned my lesson.

Maybe i am the odd one, but maruti have sold me on the design. I have not seen it in the flesh (or driven it) so maybe my thoughts could change. I like that they have not given the connected lights. it kinda feels like the cuteness aggresion version of the desire. Love the video.

For the first time, I didn't watch the quick recap before the whole video. Maruti and 5 star safety in a sentence is definitely an attention grabber. Perceived and actual safety are great in logic and facts but I would most definitely feel alot more at ease mentally if my ride's been rated safe and stable. Cos' I can never know when I'll need that cushion. And better roads are only leading to more and severe unfortunate accidents. As much as I drive sedate now, but in moments of thrill I would really feel more confident in handling panic situations in a higher safety rated car than otherwise.

Absolutely agree on the VW's 1.5 TSI start stop experience. It's so bad that once I start my car, the start stop is the 1st button I reach to turn it off.

It also says Start-Stop which is the order you follow once the car stops 😂

I commented almost same things on Carwale's post of Citroen Aircross' zero star Latin NCAP rating just yesterday. People began calling it unsafe without seeing that the report mentioned it being valid for Latin American market and the car's floor is rated stable.

that was eye opening spot on thank you so much , i am looking forward to Amaze its good car but lack of headrest at back seat like their more premium city do and lack of basic features standardization for eg TPMS etc etc was my problem lets see for the new one how it goes .....

This is the most important launch for Maruti Suzuki this year. The 5 star rating is only for PR, it will not change much. The Brezza was already 4 star rated and did not dent the Nexon sales as much.
Glad to see Maruti taking safety as one of the priorities with thier usual good things along with it

Why don't you guys do an in-depth review of the bajaj dominar 400?
Yeah i know shumi sir kind of hates the motorcycle because it's front end is heavier and the weight too
But if observed carefully it's the best part of it, I've riden the duke, speed 400 and g310r
But the best thing about dominar is it's stability, the heavy front end helps it to not get wobbly under cross winds or when you overtake a truck closely at high speeds. Shumi is for sure the better observer here and we really want his opinion on dominar again with not a 7 minute video, we want a dominar review from shumi sir! It's much awaited and needed now
I had an small accident on my dzire and i got tensed about replacement cost but the company is said only 2500 that's when I really Maruti Suzuki I choose was the best decision I ever made

I've read somewhere that they got a higher tensile strength steel with yield strength of 960 MPa or something like that for Dzire. They were able to put this into the Dzire because it is currently being manufactured by the Indian Steel industry which previously was not possible. It would have to be imported which would be prohibitively expensive or not possible at all.
Now that Indian Steel industry has caught up, we can see more manufacturers using it.
I think the recently facelifted Nissan Magnite also talks about high tensile steel being used in it.

You see adding High strength steel in the load paths was never a big challenge but they only did this after all the backlash they got :)
So people who criticized suzuki for poor star rating should also be credited for this change.
Karthik mentioned the weight has gone up by only 40kg, BUT..... this car must have saved a good amount of weight with the downsized 3 cylinder engine whereas the Baleno still has old 4 cylinder engine hence the 100kg weight difference is seen, so i guess the structural changes done to Dzire and Baleno are probably identical.
But so has equipment. But good point.
