I was recently in Astoria , Oregon , I live in Washington State . The woman putting gas in my car wanted to " round up " to an even amount . Though the pump clicked off , meaning it is full . Going beyond this as they say will damage your emission system , charcoal canister . I told her no and mentioned this , which I don't think she knew about . So , when traveling through Oregon , be sure to mention NOT to fill beyond the pump shutting off .
Wait... Green pump handles mean diesel over there? That would confuse the crap out of any Brits visiting, as the colours are reversed over here in the UK.
Wow that’s interesting. Yeah green is diesel. The nozzle is bigger than gasoline though so there is really not a way to put diesel in a gas car by mistake as some are saying. I suppose you could put gas in a diesel car by accident though.

I've been pumping gas since the 1970's although in those times you did not have the easy credit/debit features. Other then the cold weather I don't mind it, I can keep some type of tab on what is going on. I guess this big question is; why is Oregon making this change now? Mandate or what?

Yea, I live in Jersey and you're not allowed to pump your own gas. It's actually illegal, so there are no self serve gas pumps in the entire state. I am soon to be 23 and I've never pumped my own gas.

Ngl, it's dumb that drivers ed doesn't teach you important (mandatory) things about being a driver like how to pump gas, top up tires, how to pay at a toll booth or even how to insure/register your vehicle. Yes, safe driving takes time to learn, but not everyone has a family network who can teach them all of the other little things that goes into driving.
Haven't been to the U.S. in a long time (just went the other day) and this video would've saved me about 5 minutes of waiting for a pump attendant to explain to me how to do this. :)

Hey thanks for this video. I wanted to know if a latch/lock doesn't work and you have to hold the pump how will I know when the tank is full ? Does it click or does the pump get stuck to let you know .?
I've only filled up my Gas once as i'm still a learner - but I believe it will stop even if you're holding it. If you want to be 100% sure and not overflow your tank or anything, it might be a good Idea to get some general knowledge on your car and how many gallons of Gas your car can hold. If you know that, then once you get low on gas (like sub 40 miles probably) you can just look at the price gauge telling you how many gallons of gas it's filling up and stop when it's around how much your car can hold (just a little method i thought of to be safe, haven't put it to test though but if you're filling it up that way, stop filling it up when you're at least a gallon less than what your Car can hold).
Yes it will shut off when it’s full even if it doesn’t have the little handle to keep it open and you have to hold it the whole time. The nozzles can sense when it’s full and shut off in time.

Im born and raised in Shartland, Oregon. When I went on a road trip recently I would stand there holding the pump the entire time haha. Smart Easy DIY nah, nobody tips for gas. But sometimes the attendants do something extra for free, like clean your windshield. Then maybe people tip out of thanks.
If filling manually and not using the lock in place feature, will the pump still shut off when full? Or if you fill manually will it go until it starts overflowing????
You're damn right Oregonians don't know how to pump their own gas!😄 I moved from Oregon to Illinois, have done it a few times but I still get all confused because I filll up very infrequently. I never put the gas nozzle back i just drive off while the gas nozzle is still in my tank to use even the last drops of the remaining gas in the nozzle and as you drive away the nozzle will be out of your car automatically less hassle for me

No it’ll Shut off automatically when it’s full. Even if you are holding it wide open to fill it it’ll shut off.

What about if you put a desired amount of gas but you don’t know if that will surpass the amount the full tank?
I had a little over half tank and I filled it up 30 dollars but just stoped until it went to 30 dollars. I’m worried I put too much gas?

If you know that, then once you get low on gas (like sub 40 miles probably) you can just look at the price gauge telling you how many gallons of gas it's filling up and stop when it's around how much your car can hold (just a little method i thought of to be safe, haven't put it to test though but if you're filling it up that way, stop filling it up when you're at least a gallon less than what your Car can hold).
Yes it will shut off when it’s full even if it doesn’t have the little handle to keep it open and you have to hold it the whole time. The nozzles can sense when it’s full and shut off in time.

Yeah if you wanted to stop at an exact amount you have to go inside and pre-pay the teller for that.

The whole state was full service till New Years a law passed where some areas of the state with less population now have to pump their own gas.

If filling manually and not using the lock in place feature, will the pump still shut off when full? Or if you fill manually will it go until it starts overflowing????

You're damn right Oregonians don't know how to pump their own gas!😄 I moved from Oregon to Illinois, have done it a few times but I still get all confused because I filll up very infrequently. I even had to ask another customer to guide me last time. He probably went home and regaled his family about the pathetic little Oregonian. Oh well!

Oh I see. Yes for motorcycles the tank opening might be a lot bigger so it might not work the same for auto shutoff.
I never put the gas nozzle back i just drive off while the gas nozzle is still in my tank to use even the last drops of the remaining gas in the nozzle and as you drive away the nozzle will be out of your car automatically less hassle for me
