Love, love living in North Austin lived here since 1984. We have Pflugerville & Round Rock up here & you forgot to mention the second downtown of Austin, The Domain. I live very close to the Domain & Soccer Stadium & several times a month there are flyers of realtors wanting to buy our home in cash. The traffic is awful, Austin is a large city with small town streets. Parmer Lane used to a small country road. The section of Braker Lane from Parkfield to Lamar Street didn't exist. There's been so many changes, but love living in North Austin.
Having lived in north ATX for the last 26 years, (Avery Ranch and now Liberty Hill) these are my personal takes on north vs. south. - There seems to be far more musicians in the south than the north. Bands with members in both areas rarely work. - IMHO, the south feels a little more classic "AustinY" - IMHO, south ATX seems far more liberal than the north. - South Austin is really much closer to Zilker park and downtown etc. - North ATX schools have the better school districts (RRISD etc.). - Far north is kind of a restaurant wasteland. - Live music is harder to find in north ATX, but the Haute Spot and HEB Center (Cedar park) seem to be filling some of the void. - There seems to be a never ending stream of semi's, cement trucks and dump truck up north. Especially CP, Leander and LH areas. - 183A will be done soon in north ATX just past 29 and that will clear up a ton of current congestion.
