out of all soap themes, the hand that opens the photo album is my favorite. It's like a soothing lullaby. I would love it if Netflix had all amc through 70's and 80's.
I wanted to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the premiere of All My Children this coming January 5. Thanks to show creator Agnes Nixon and everyone else who brought this wonderful daytime drama to life, with its mix of multi-generational storylines, young love, social issues, class conflicts, and character-based humor. Like many, many viewers, I continue to have fond memories of Erica, Phoebe, Joe and Ruth, Tad, Brooke, Adam, Palmer, Phillip and Tara, Cliff and Nina, Greg and Jenny, Jesse and Angie, Tom, Ellen, Mark, Donna, Chuck, Daisy, Langley, Myrtle, Stuart, Grandma Kate, and so many other memorable characters who graced Pine Valley.
Funny how Erica was talking all of that trash to Nick. But later on, he was hitting it and had her all whipped. The line about him being "on her back" made me LOL!
AMC was great, in the early 1970s, but I feel it truly shined from the late 1970s to early 1980s and from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s...and there were several other great years in between those periods (and after them) :)
I love the ad, "Susan Lucci for President" LOL! I would vote for her...maybe, if she is POTUS, she will sign a law that makes it mandatory for everyone to watch AMC :)
As far as I am concerned this COULD be considered the start of AMC for a number of reasons… I don’t want to say everything because I can’t but this is a good spot to begin if someone were planning a high school course in Soap Opera 0:24
I seriously hated how Erica talked to her mother and it only got worse. She was a bad example to teenage girls. But oh Everyone always loves her and still does.
Agnes' production company for both "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" was Creative Horizons, Inc. She sold both of the shows to ABC. At some point in 1975, producer Bud Kloss sent a memo to someone in the technical area that recorded the show, told them to stop reusing the videotapes, and that the show would pay for a new blank tape each day. Some of the episodes prior to Bud's memo survive on black-and-white kinescopes.
I think in her interview in ABC's "Episodes" magazine, she said that she started in episode #9. If my memory and Susan's are accurate, then her first air date would have been Thursday, January 15, 1970.
since AMC is now moving to Los Angeles, they can save some money with their budget due to how the New York City studio was smaller so they had to dismantle and put back together the sets for each use (unless the same set was used two days in a row-or even three or four or five)....with a bigger studio in Los Angeles, they won't have that problem.
this was obviously on SOAPNET. I missed this replay. SOAPNET used to show Ryan's Hope (i loved that show) still do? I don't get SN anymore. This ep. was on in 1971!!, even B4 my mom watched this show!!! We started watching AMC/OLTL about 1978-9. I've witnessed most of ERIca's marriages. She married Jackson twice??
I remember watching this show in the 70's, and thinking, "Look at all the talking they do--look how much they communicate to each other about absolutely EVERYTHING! And STILL! They don't understand each other, and can barely get along. Something's definitely WRONG here!" Mona is a control freak, and Erica has the worst social skills of anybody on earth! They all talk till they're blue in the face, and yet nothing's working!
Lucci's getting to the age now where she shouldn't be wearing spaghetti strap cocktail dresses. She's older than Phoebe when the show first started for heaven's sake. Put AMC to bed and let people enjoy her this way.
Well, compared to most soap grandmas (or in Erica's case, "grandma in denial" LOL), she spends a lot of time with them. But damn she's too darn vain to just admit it!

David Brunson yes Netflix. If my memory serves me right they brought back Dark Shadows. I loved watching those all over again.

Nope. The writers wanted to immortalize the character. That’s why Miranda and Spike called her “Erica”.

True...AMC still has some sense of family to it compared to other soaps. Obviously the family interaction was most prevalent in the 70s, 80s, and 90s

Erika and Mona had great chemistry especially when Mona started fighting back with knife cutting barbs. Hilarious!

Susan Lucci wasn't on the first episode, her first airdate on AMC was January 16, 1970....her first scene was with Phil, Tara, & Chuck.

not all shows were all in color...it took some years for some shows to catch up
"All My Children" was always in color. This episode came from a black-and-white kinescope.
