My mother and my grandmother watched AMC from day one ! At 12 noon - it came on and the world stopped ……..
ERICA KANE truly was a modern day Scarlett O’Hara ……..it took a special actress to keep viewers wanting more of ERICA for 41 years ! She could have been just a bratty kid - but LUCCI brought so many layers !!

I used to watch this back when it started in 1970, and when I look at this clip, I can't believe it was almost 40 years ago! Soaps were a lot more believable back then..........storylines were more believable and the people all looked like normal people, and not overly processed, carved-out-of-cream-cheese supermodels.

Erica and Nick had a wonderful Scarlett/Rhett-type of relationship, and Nick and Mona had a pleasant brother/sister relationship.. Nick was the perfect anti-hero at a time when most of the characters were legal or medical professionals or idealistic high school/college students. It was good that Nick visited Pine Valley throughout the years.

It's a joke she made at the 1999 Daytime Emmy Awards (when she finally won a Best Actress award after 18 previous nominations); it's based on an old daytime tv joke about how often 2nd or 3rd-tier characters would appear. It's an exaggeration (usually), but the gist of it means someone who only appears in a few episodes a month, at most, for "x" plots/subplots (though said days might be in a row, and then the character not be seen for 3-4 weeks).

Leslina Youngest True! She was originally supposed to be a 2nd tier/supporting character (and the "bitch"-type who would try to steal boyfriends, as her character was only around 16 when she first appeared). However, as the years passed, she became the character many people (women, primarily, at that time in the 70's) loved-to-hate, then wound up just loving. (Lucci has commented many times how blessed she felt as an actress, having an occupation that is so known for its ups-and-downs and lack of job security but she got to have job security -- a true rarity -- for literally her entire working career from her early 20s (she was playing several years or more younger than herself throughout her entire run as Erica) to her mid-60's... a truly virtually unheard of thing outside of the soap world during its heyday back when she started).

@toony826 I always loved Mona----the stalwart, ever-adoring, always-wise mother. Fra Heflin (Van's sister) was an amazing actress. When she "died", I mourned and loved that Erica suffered, as she had mistreated this wonderful woman so often, leaving Mona to clean up her many, many messes. When my own beloved mother passed away, I thought of Mona....and I was so happy I treated my own mom with respect and love.

I sometimes look at US Actors on Soaps and I would love for them to do a UK Soap Opera. Susan would be perfect on Hollyoaks as Tony Hutchinson's American Cousin. She'd be a riot on that show. Have Erika Slezak do Eastenders and play Janine Butcher's Cousin and set her straight. Or if she was alive have Katherine Chancellor invite Pat Butcher to Genoa City from Eastenders.

Erica had Mona, just like AW's Rachel had Ada and ATWT's Lisa had Alma.

it did..AMC started in color like all shows beginning at that time (and that started in the mid-60s)..in most cases, the only thing remaining are b&w prints, with the color broadcast videos no longer being in existence....

It's funny how Erica is calling Nick a creep here but a few years later she was all up in his bed. In fact, "that creep" had her strung out for a while - LOL!

Jeff Martin (Tad and Jake's brother) was La Kane's first husband. Phil was #2. Tom Cudahy was #3.

@allmyshadows if memory serves, the 'teaser' to keep the audience going was Philip Brend (Nick Benedict) being shot in the line of duty...

Erica Kane was actually based on Rachel Davis #1 on Another World. If you see "Rachel" on the show in 1968 when Steve Frame came to town, it was so amazing. The Love Triangle with them and Alice Matthews really helped the show become a success.

She was "Angry". She lived in a Blue Collar Section of Town, her Mother was a Secretary, also her Father was probably a B Movie Actor who just didn't have that thing to make it in Hollywood.
