    I love the sound of GMC diesels. My Dad drove a GMC cabover in the late 60's that had a 8v71 engine. the truck was crap but the engine was awesome.

      I've thought for a while that it was an 8v92 in the movie! Everyone else thinks it's a 12v71, but those sound a bit different.

    I've heard some people say that the 8v92s were nothing but junk; I never believed it though. Your truck and others I've seen with the 8v92 on TH-cam certainly prove that to be false. I could listen to the 2 strokes all day long; especially the 8v92. Any videos I find on TH-cam of trucks with an 8v92 I play time and time again

    @bj99ful Hey buddy, I still havent got that video yet , but I will try to get it real soon. The old detroit is still clocking 12 to 1500 miles a week. . One of my uncles is trying to get me to pull the motor & transmission out of it into 98 model mack but I dont know if I ll do that or not , my ol white has been good to me

  • @1979peterbilt
    @1979peterbilt  13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @bj99ful Yeah Im still working on getting it, things have been hecktic here lately. The ol white has been pulling 19 loads a week. My other truck is a 74 w900 kenworth that has had a full off restoration, I was thinking on putting a 8v92 detroit in it too, the cummins was a new motor but nothing beats the sound of a 8v92 detroit !

  • @bj99ful
    @bj99ful 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nothing beats the sound of the 2 stroke Detroits. Too bad there's so few now; mostly just in the older transit buses. There's one GMC General dump truck where I live with an 8v92 but it's so quiet that you can hardly hear it; I didn't know a 2 stroke Detroit could be made to run so quiet; there's also a Brigadier dump with 671 Detroit which makes the noise you'd expect from a 2 stroke

    I cant stop watching this video, that 8V92 sounds so good, the gear changes sound great too, it's amazing that after 30 service its still on the road earning money and doing 12 hour shifts, this is my favourite video on you tube, well done Mr 1979peterbilt.

  • @1979peterbilt
    @1979peterbilt  13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @bj99ful No I dont have to wear ear plugs , probably should though lol. The reason it sounds quiter is because the inlet pipe runs into a 6 inch box which in return quitens it down some. It will still make your ears ring after driving it 12 hours a day.

    • @1965Gindy
      @1965Gindy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but if the trucks you put these engines in are the new trashy trucks that was a waste of engine. Should save that stuff for the old trucks that need an engine.

      Wait did you put that 2 stroke Detroit into the truck. Because trucks didn' t come with 2 strokes in that year. In fact Detroit stopped making 2 strokes in 1987. At that point they were starting to make 4 strokes such as the 60 series. Wait I forgot you replied on my comment earlier and said that your trucks don't have electronics because you took them out and put in 2 strokes.

    • @1979peterbilt

    @bj99ful 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Still working on trying to get an inside video of the WhiteGMC? I recall you mentioning that you had another truck with a Cummins but I have to admit that the 8v92 is what I really love to hear. I always enjoyed the 2 strokes but especially the 671, 8v71 and 8v92 Detroits

  • @bj99ful
    @bj99ful 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    The similarity is certainly there; then again, most of the old 2 stroke Detroits make their presence known with a sound all their own with the exeception of that General dump truck I told you about. I don't know how he made that truck so quiet. It seems the newer Detroits going back to as far as the Series 60 sound too much like the Cummins and Cat engines. The distinguished sound isn't there anymore, really not much to set them apart from any other diesel engine

  • @bj99ful
    @bj99ful 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks and sounds good; is it still straight piped? It seems quieter now.

  • @bj99ful
    @bj99ful 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you wear earplugs while driving the WhiteGMC? For being straight piped it doesn't seem as noisy as some other trucks I've seen on TH-cam. There's 2 videos of a white Kenworth with an 8v92 posted by Mr Pitbull33 that seems to be a lot louder than your truck. Maybe it's just the way he has the exhaust set up
