This has been the best review for this multi effect so far. It won’t replace my favorite pedals. In a pinch, this is good enough for certain situations. Thanks .
Boss definitely gave this pedal to the right guy. You showed everything that I wanted to hear from this thing and with the best sounding demos. Great job and great playing
Wow thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
Thank you demoing clean tones!
Crazy demo, really made me want one lol
Had me hooked from that whammy in the intro
In the 80s, I jammed with a dude who used the BOSS ME5 guitar effects, and it sounded so sick - it had The Sound. Boss has always done a great job with the pulse of the modern player.
Thanks for the video! Really appreciated the rundown and style. Also much love also from Melbourne!
Glad you enjoyed it!
BLEEEEEEND! Sold.
Great Demo. AWESOME Bass Playing! Keep up the good work!
I would definitely keep the OC-2 Octave on hand, it sounds killer.
I need to get into the habit of commenting at the end of the video & not somewhere in between. With that said, I still found this video fricken awesome! Like I said before, "Great Demo. AWESOME Bass Playing! Keep up the good work!"
@@wxb200 thanks for your support!!
Still the best bass teacher I’ve had. Keep up the good work homie!
Ahh thanks man! Hope you’re well :)
Review was so good I might buy one & I don't even play bass. Great vid man.
There is a normal guitar version, the ME90.
I have a Boss ME 50 guitar multi effect I got 25-30 years ago when I was learning guitar before I became obsessed with bass and crossed over to the dark side! It works, but lacks the sonic detail of Boss's dedicated bass pedals. If it's all you have it still rocks!
Knocks my Boss GT-1B into the dust but I don't need to update
Wooow the ADV Drive!!!! amazing, Lemmy style :) always disliked the fuzz sounds in general (as a heavy-rock fan), but the overdrives, specially in this unit, seem to deliver. Thanks for such a well made review!..Subscribed!
Thanks! Yeah the dirt sounds are really useable imo!
Great!
Great review, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it thanks!
Octave Comparison
ME90B - Dry & 1 down. 3:18
OC2 - Dry & 1 down. 4:18
ME90B - Octave Down. 3:46
OC2 - Octave Down. 4:34
Blend control is especially impressive to me
Very good video btw 😊
Thanks 😁
Really need a couple of good synth sounds, a la I Wanna Dance With Somebody and 24K Magic. I get the feeling that Boss has never progressed in the synth tone department. I still use an ME-50B and have an SY-1, so that is my perspective. My board is failing on the footswitches (mainly the 2nd one that cycles the synth/distortion), so I need something like this. I love having a volume/expression pedal built in. You did a great job in showing the strengths. The sad part is that you ignored what I'm after, which doesn't bode well. But you were very good and honest. Thank you!
Best option is to try one for yourself and see if the synth sounds do what you need! Thanks for watching :)
welcome to the MACHINE☠⚡♈
Thank you! That was a great demo. Not sure if I missed it but are the pickups in the bass stock? Sounds awesome. Cheers!
Hey thanks for watching glad you like the video! The pickups in the bass are from Haeussel Pickups in Germany.
Knocks my Boss GT-1B into the dust but I don't need to update
Great playing and appreciate the demo, I bought one right after your vid! Been waiting for this kind of bass MFX for a while, almost got a helix but feel like they are kind of …. Old?
Thanks for watching glad I coud help! I think the BOSS and Helix series both have strengths depending on what you need out of a multi-fx and what your tonal tastes are.
Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this type of multi effect for a while as well. Pretty stoked.
I miss my old Boss ME8B.... I loved the synth sounds.
I have the GT-1B and my gripe with that has always been cycling through menus and the stack of useless effects on there. This looks like I can dial up a very usable tone without much knowledge of parameters (like I currently have). It could be a solid upgrade. Nice review
Exactly my words 😂
I have a gt-1b too, i do love that thing, but it`s a hassle to cycle trough, idk, some things works better in the "analog" way, just a lot of buttons right in front of you.
Considering to sell my gt1b and get the m9
Agreed. My knowledge of parameters is almost non-existent. Menu diving is what always holds me back from trying a multi.
Knocks my Boss GT-1B into the dust but I don't need to update
So if the new AIRD tech is only for amp modeling, are effects new as well? or did they incorporate actual boss bass effect pedals that are available today, into this unit? 🤔
Thanks for your content! When will it be available for purchase?
Thanks for watching! They should be available from your local dealer asap!
Hey there, thanks for the great video. What I’d like to know is if you have to choose between compression OR octave?? The way it looks and that’s the way the manual reads. Also, also looks like you have to choose between reverb OR delay OR looper. Thanks.
Hey great questions and thanks for watching! I initially thought the same thing about the comp or octave but in the Mod bank there is another Comp to chose. As demonstrated in the video you can reverb and delay independently switchable by selecting delay in the Mod bank and reverb in the Del/Rev. Bank. I didn’t investigate the looper too much but you could definitely use delay and looper, and via the tone studio app there might be somewhere else you could assign reverb. Thanks!
Nice ME pedal, but great sound got from that Squire 👌🏼
Thanks!
Question about the comp/fx1: can you only select one function of that knob? Is it possible to turn on for example both the comp and the octaver of that knob?
You can only select one FX per footswitch, if you want comp and octave you can select the comp from the Mod footswitch
I've still got the gt6b, and hardly use it because i never could get the hang of building a preset from ground up. The presets already installed were mostly useless and worse, very different in volume level. I wish the internet was around then so someone might have done an in depth user manual for it. Are you familiar with this boss unit?
Hey sorry I don’t have any experience with that unit, but the ME90B is fairly intuitive to program.
I am wondering how good the acoustic preamp and acoustic simulator are for use with an acoustic bass guitar.
The acoustic preamp is specifically designed for acoustic bass, the simulator is for electric basses to try and make them sound more acoustic.
So this thing has different bass cab tones too like the hx stomp?
Yeah it does!
Which pickups are in that Squier bass? I have the same one and the pickups look and sound different.
read above
Hi thanks for watching! Do you have an early 80’s JV Squier too? I replaced the pickups with Haeusell pickups.
@@Basslessonsmelbourne oh haha. No I have a classic vibe :). Thank you for letting me know. Sounds great!
What Pups are in that J bass?? Lindys? Just a guess it sounds so good man! Also that headstock and Tuners are so classic looking! So nice!
They are Haeussel pickups. Thanks for watching!
@@Basslessonsmelbourne oh awesome!! Thanks for the reply brother!!
How's the tracking of the synths?
Hey! It's similar to the Octave in that you need to be pretty clean and accurate with your playing appraoch.
@@Basslessonsmelbourne does it track well when you play fast licks? That's the most important part. That was always a problem with all their bass multi fx, from the me8b, gt6 , gt10b, me50b and the gt1b
@@theprezenz I’d say it’s not its strong point…the SY series from BOSS is probably a better option if you are looking for serious synth tones. Thanks!
@@Basslessonsmelbourne ok thx for reply. Such a pity 😔 they never learn
Only way to know for sure is try one yourself if you can! Everybody’s version of ‘tracking’ is different
No, it won't.
Peace!
6 years from now it'll be in facebook marketplace for $150 or near offer...
It's really sad that Boss have taken such a huge step backward for Bass multi-effects. It's a great board I'm sure, but after the Boss GT-10B and the disappointing GT-1000 (for bass specifically), this unit is an absolute step back. Safe to say I'll stick with the best units Boss have made for bass.
Why? Pls explain
@@theprezenz Specifically the amp/cab options, effects, display and controls. This is a very straightforward unit for quick gig use. Very difficult to setup complex parameters together through channel splits.
@@beefybassplayer I understand. I was also expecting a bit more but for this pricepoint, it's not bad. Still need to test it first to have a proper opinion on it. For me the Stomp (xl) are 'better' but too expensive for what I need. It's nice to have it but I'm really looking for fx that I really can utilise.
@@theprezenz I agree. It's a great board for the quick and simple gig where you don't need complex tones and parameters for the overall sound. I'd get this if I'm say, doing a tour with a classic rock band. Simple tones and straightforward. However with a couple of other bands I play, I've dialed a few fairly complex patches that a unit like this it would be challenging, if not impossible, to do. Honestly I'm eventually aiming for my very own pedalboard (the 20 year plan lol). Multieffects makes things much easier.
Spoiler alert.... NO.
Boss still thinks it’s 1997. I’m glad they sent this guy some free gear for the video though.
