I sill watching old videos whenever I need a fix.
As Dave says on his channel, Dave Knows How, "it's a finesse game" when speaking of compact utility tractors. A lot of tractor newbies buy this class of tractor so these are really good messages for those people to hear.
You did a GREAT job! I know you say you can get other equipment and do the same job in less time, but I am not convinced you would do a better job, or not as neat. The advantage of taking time with a smaller machine is that you are more precise and the disadvantage of larger equipment is that you can sometimes do a lot of damage due to weight, and difficulties in maneuvering. Of course, overall your sentiment is correct, just wanted to add that bigger is not always better, maybe just faster.
good point, that's why when I went to buy a compact, I rethought what I really wanted my second tractor for, I went bigger :) and very happy I stuck with Kubota

Great to watch Mike. I come from a pleasant seaside town in the northeast of England, my house plot is one of the bigger ones in the town at .15 acre, yes that's zero point one five ! Pennsylvania is about half the size of the entire UK, with a population of about 13 million, there about 66 million of us clinging onto our overcrowded rock, so it can be a tad busy at times. It's great to see your tranquil part of the planet, the work you do, and the obvious enjoyment you get from it. I'm a recently retired engineer, so I can appreciate both the wonderful woodland and the machinery that you put to such good use. Excellent videos, music and editing, keep them coming.
Thanks Eric, at times It can get a little crowded here as well. I'm sure not as much as the UK but still. Im fortunate to live in a nice area with lots of room but I'm only about 45 minute drive from Pittsburgh. So it's kind of interesting really. I can go back in the woods and it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere yet drive 10 or 15 minutes and be in traffic

sweet!...I've got the smaller BX2370 with a 48" land pride box blade...The beauty of the box blade is the adjustable rippers...a couple of passes with the rippers all the way down and the sod is loose... then the blade can start working on the dirt...and they are made with a 2 sided blade so you can both push and pull the dirt!

You are right about those bagged bales of straw. Like you I was skeptical at first about the price. The straw is already cut and is so tightly packed that it's actually hard to get the straw out of the bag. I bought one from the hardware store three years ago and I'm still using it for seeding and planting projects around the house. I keep it sealed tight in a big plastic trash bag and store it in the garage and it is still fresh. You could never do that with an open bale of straw. They probably aren't suitable for all projects but for me it was perfect.
You have been busy. Good info on what your tractor is and what it is not. I needed to hear the line about keeping my ideas on the tractor in check. I tend to over commit on my "toys".

Nice work. You obviously know what you are doing with your machinery. imho, much better than a skid loader. I used to sell & work on Kubota's. Love them.
I have a Kubota BX25 and I have busted 1800 hours mostly using the FEL. I even increased the hydraulic pressure a tad, and it is an invaluable tool lifting rocks, digging holes, scooping and loading. It is one tough little tractor, it is no toy.

Drop your scarifiers down so they'll rip up the topsoil. Much easier to move once it's ripped up👌 But other than that it's great video. Really cool to see how fast it gets done with that machine!

I just signed for a new John Deere tractor with the bucket installed on it since my first tractor didn't have one. Currently, my older 2003 tractor have been used to primarily work around home even though I got it to clear more land, and keep it cleared. The addition of a tractor with a front bucket will come in handy for digging and lifting items like stones without having to change implements so much.
You mentioned renting a dozer to do the work you don't want to do with your tractor, but it is difficult to find places in Arkansas where they will rent you one. You can get a tractor and backhoe easily, and I figured that it must have been due to the possible damage which happens to the rented heavy equipment.

BEAUTIFUL PLACE.
Love the channel I own 12 Acers of woodland / farmland in Plumstead Nj . We utilize a utv, bobcat, and a old Harris furgeson farm tractor to process fire wood and work around the yard . I'm an operations manager for Home Depot when I can't get out in the yard it's nice to sit back and watch your channel and a few others like wrangler star , pure living for life and Andrew Camarata a good variety of different hobbys.

Very interesting. Where I live (Thailand), everybody with a tractor has a dozer on front. They have a different connection to the tractor as well as they don't need to lift. So probably more made for it. I just ordered a tractor. One with a loader. In addition to that, the loader can be disconnected and I got a dozer as well to connect to the loader arm (So, not dedicated dozer arm). Let's see how that works. Here they don't sell dozers on the back of a tractor.
Thanks for posting these videos. Yesterday i stopped by a Kubota dealer and looked and the L3901. I'll be saving up to put a down payment on one spring of 2018. Thanks for helping me decide on the best tractor for me. I'll be managing my 12.5 acres around my home and helping my Dad maintain trails with his Kubota MX5100 on our family property. I'm debating shooting videos of my projects like this. Thanks for the information and inspiration.

I'm so glad you mentioned the time it took to complete the task but if you if want to up production value of your videos, it would be nice to see a large digital clock or something within the frame of the video so we could see realtime data just in case what you remember about the timeframe is incorrect or just a bit off. Just a suggestion ;)

did you add water to your rear tires? tractor supply sells the fitting, add antifreeze to prevent wheel rust and freezing, here in texas it takes 2 gallons of antifreeze, to keep it liquid all year I have a m series 70 hp 4wd and love it, sold the johndeere 75hpthe Kubota has more useful power
As soon as I find somebody that rents forestry mulchers I am there and will only need it for a day. Now that would be right tool for the job I am looking to do. Still going to get a tractor sometime just need to save up the cash.

I’m turning a small section of field into yard. I don’t want to spend more money than I have to on this project. It has ruts and is bumpy and I want to even it out. I’ve though about using a rototiller to loosen it up and then a box scraper to level it. Does that sound like it would work?

While I agree those tractors would last forever with the way you care for it and that's a good thing, but if I need to do something a little out of it's range, I'm still gonna do it but also try to baby it at the same time. That's just me, use what ya got ! By the way, your videos are unbelievable and are a blast to watch !!

Blade is nice, especially when offset to clean out ditches and things, Box blade is nice because you can carry material with you

Excellent video! Will have to buy a tractor pretty soon for a 15 acre property, mostly pastures and couple acres in woods. I know yours is about 90 ac in woods you mentioned somewhere . Would you recommend same size tractor for our farming needs? And you crushed my hope of digging a pond which was one of the items for me on the tractor job list. Any suggestions how to go about it using any attachments without wearing the machine out too much?
If you have lots and lots of mowing or brush hogging maybe a M Series, but if not the L series would be fine

Hey mike. 2 Things- when you are using that box blade, do you drop it all the way down into float when you drag it and/or push backwards? Also, not sure if you have one but I picked up a rear blade- I figured it would be good for plowing snow as well as for grading the driveway- if you have experience with one it would be great if you could do a video on the difference between a box bade and a rear blade and what you would use each for etc, or why one over the other as i assume they are both for grading(?) Thanks!.
I usually just drop all the way and float when moving forward, but lift up and down to push backwards like a dozer blade. I don't have a rear blade but will be getting one in the future

Tractors are a bit like back hoe's there a compromise and as you say Swiss army knife. You can't beat the rear thing.
I drove a front end loader and could load a 11 yard 6 wheel tipper truck in 3 mins with blue London clay. Trenching with a 360 excavator makes spoil disposal easy as you can dump it well away from the trench, even behind you, with a back hoe it's just left or right. Don't get me wrong back hoes have a rightful place on many job sites.
I gave up driving plant back in the 90s and back hoes had come a long way in that time. I finished up on a JCB 3 CX fitted with a 4 in ! front bucket, now they are great for grading just open the jaws 4' and blade away the bucket will not dig in. It also had fold away lift forks, now you had to be very careful unloading trucks as there is no counterweight on the rear, if I had a lot to unload I would attache my biggest digging bucket and fill it with the heaviest material around, this did help some what.
On the back end it had telescoping dipper arm, speed attach bucket system, hydraulic slide clamps so you could slide and lock the rear end for anywhere across the width of the machine. I saw one on a farm and the guy had made the back end detachable so he could mount trailer and other attachment's on it.

You are absolutly correct, these compact and sub-compact tractors are capable of doing the job but just takes a little longer. Case in point, where I live we are getting town water. Where they set my water meter, to my house was 90 feet. My BX25D and a 4" shovel did the job but took two day to dig the 90' @ 30" deep through hard clay. An excavator would have done it in about an hour or less. But I'm not complaining, I love that little Kubota! Thanks.

I just cleared about half an acre with my l3400. now i need to level the dirt. Do you recomend the box blade for that? I was also thinking about adding a couple rear remotes and maybe a lift and tilt kit for the box blade.

Rhansen1987 the box blade is great for cutting and keeping material where u want without spreading it wide a blade is good for finishing and smoothing and cutting ditches if it's made to tilt.

You need to angle the box down instead of up like you did. This way the teeth and the front blade of the box will dig in more and save you time. I've had a scraper box on my JD for a long time. Your getting used to it Mike.

I was going to buy a tractor like that one and realized theres more grass in a round hay bale than my 8 acres.
In case your not joking you should be able to bale 16 round bales with alittle fertilizer in 8 acres

I kinda disagree with you. I have. DK35SE and all this tractor has done in its 1856 hours of life is skid firewood and saw logs. The loader is always pushing dirt or loading logs or cut firewood. Other than a couple dents it's almost 100% both my tractors do heavy commercial work all day long with excellent results
John Myers, I totally understand where your coming from and I should clarify. I'm just saying if someone buys a tractor for the sole purpose of digging... they should have bought a skid loader. The tractors are pretty good at almost everything, but they aren't made to just dig all the time. If they were they would look like a track skid loader.
Tractors in general are pretty weak! Compared to counter parts like high in skid steers or full sized backhoes. Example a 555E New Holland back ho is an 83HP machine with a breakout force of 13,250 pound's. Kubota M135 135hp breakout force 6398. Bucket lift a lot more, IMO a tractors real purpose is ground speed and PTO power its an agricultural machine.
I really should have gotten a box blade instead of a back blade.
Blade is nice as well, I like the box for certain things like a hard packed gravel drive, and moving dirt!
You need a roller on the back of the box blade, trust me I know what I am talking about.
That would be handy at times, Can you move yours out of way when you want to push dirt with back of box?
With the roller I no longer need the teeth to get it to dig because of the extra weight. I just raise up the roller up a couple of inches and it peals out a 2 inch layer of dirt. when it fills up I lower the roller which raises the blade so it is about level with the roller and drive to where I want to dump it. Then using the cylinder on the roller I lower it while I am driving and that raises the blade and it lays down a nice even layer of dirt then the roller rolls it all down.
I had to remove the back cutting edge and replace it with a 1/2 x 6 inch bar of steel to support the front blade because it was bowing backwards.
If you have a bunch of dirt to dig and move, I dig it with the blade and drag it into a pile then scoop it up with the front loader. That is if I have to move it very far. You could dig dirt with the blade all day long and never hurt the tractor.
The thing works great at leveling a drive way, because the roller keeps the blade from cutting in the low spots and causes it to cut on the high spots.
The only time I really need to push something like brush into a pile; well I just use the front loader.
The problem as I see it with a box blade is in order to get it to dig you have to adjust the top link to lean the box forward so it will cut. Then drag it to where you want to move the dirt to; then you have to
raise it off the ground and dump the dirt in a pile. So when you get the dirt moved, then the top link has to be adjusted to lean the box back for leveling. A pain in the butt. I do it all from the tractor seat, I can go from digging to leveling in 2 seconds and never get off the tractor.
whole point of having a tractor is to get a project done, not every one has access to or has the equipment to move rented machines, and sometimes people dont want to spend or cant afford to rent a a machine. if youre afraid to put hours on your machine use a wheel barrow.
