Nice to see you back on TH-cam! I’m 44, signed with my first agent at 43 after being made redundant from a IT training job I’d worked for over 10 years. After booking a couple of commercials, a big voiceover job and a video game, I finally booked a TV job. Day player. We’re filming next week! I’m not in a huge market like Atlanta, New York or LA, I’m based in Northern Ireland. We do have a thriving industry here but it’s nothing compared to those US markets. I say this because it proves that it’s never too late to start an acting career even if you don’t live in one of the big markets.

I was so glad to get a new video from you, Kurt! And just like your other ones, full of business wisdom. I especially liked the bit about auditioning for the same CD even when you don't book means that they like you and are trying to find stuff for you. I have had an experience like this and haven't booked, but that makes me optimistic about future bookings!

You are giving me more and more confidence in terms of becoming a good beginner actor. I have 6-7 pages of notes that are primarily from your videos and I study them every night because when I take that next step, I want to show that I am taking this seriously by having the knowledge that most beginning actors wouldn't have and I'm also learning from other channels that CDs love when you submit quality self-tapes earlier than the deadline because it shows them that you are serious. I enjoy your videos and I can't wait to see you in more projects!

I'm in my 70s and just got an agent last summer. Funny, I had just done a tally off AA yesterday: 36 auditions last year, and booked 1 TV and 4 commercials, though two of the commercials were non-speaking. Still, they were through my agent...wouldn't have gotten them otherwise. 14 auditions this year and zero so far, but pleased with my progress. Thanks so much for what you do!

  • @EricStinehart

Kurt, these videos are so helpful and informative so thank you. I would love to hear you talk more about how you’re thinking about your acting career progression - i.e. if or how you’re thinking about going from more recurring/co-star type roles to lead roles, generally getting bigger roles in bigger projects, etc. Kind of like how you mentioned going from more day player to recurring roles.
Selfishly, I’d also love more advice on how to jump from local/short films to bigger and more paid projects. I think the summary is to have good materials (resume, reel) and get an agent/manager, especially in a major acting city, but any more advice would be greatly appreciated. On that note…
I just (really) started acting in 2023 and honestly have not tracked most of these numbers, but maybe when I hopefully start going out for bigger auditions I will. Here are the numbers I do have in terms of what I’ve booked/worked on:
    - 4 short / student films
    - 1 big tech commercial
    - 1 play (lead role) that rehearsed in 2023, showed in early 2024
    - 1 48-hour film fest
    - 1 staged reading
    - 2 acting classes
Since end of 2023, I’ve already booked ~7 more short films, a few of which I have bigger roles and/or are higher “quality” which is exciting. I even got flown out for the first time recently.
I feel like I’ve done quite a bit in a short amount of time in my local market (Seattle), and am itching to get representation and potentially make a NYC/LA move at some point…

I've been doing community theatre since 2020, last year I made my goal to get on the casting websites (Actors Access, Backstage and Casting Networks) I successfully created profiles on all three sites. I did many community theatre auditions and booked 1 show. I did about half a dozen auditions from the casting platforms and my goal was to book 1. In December between Christmas and New Years I booked a music video!

In 2023, I had 82 auditions and booked 12 which includes 1-Print, 1 VO. I feel blessed when I get auditions and book it. The tv shows that I auditioned for had nothing to do with my auditions. I went back and looked at 6 shows it was different gender, older than me, or they changed ethically. Thanks for this video. Informative

I applied for 27 jobs in 2023 and got booked for 3
I never got booked through casting, only ever by some gracious casting director, or sleeping with the director. (I'm joking ;P) I only sleep with producers.
My recent highlights have been a tiny part Belgian/German TV mini-series, that had it's world premier at the international Cannes film-festival and a villain role in a proof of concept space western.

You can begin at any age. You'll find people of all ages in acting classes, because if it's something you're serious about, you'll be in class throughout your career.
I moved to Atlanta at 26, and didn't book my first fully paid professional role til I was 30. I've got a pretty large friend group of actors, mostly in their 30s or older.
