The year was around 2005 and I had given a lift to 4 passengers from Nyanga to Marondera on a cool and breezy Nyanga morning. I was playing this song on my car radio during the cassettes era. Around Julisdale I started playing this song and repeated it twice expecting that the passengers would complain. When i stole a glance via the internal rear view mirror everyone of them were nodding their heads in enjoyment and accompaniment to the free flowing Mukanya voice and Blacks Unlimited melodious/tight rhythms. We played the same song up until we reached Rusape. At Rusape one of the passengers got out and pretended to go to the toilet but bought drinks (FANTA) for everyone in the car. BUT he bought 2 drinks for me and humbly said thank you driver. Point of correction dear passenger : thank you Mukanya. But above and beyond all this thanks be to GOD the giver of life.
Mukanya’s music are gems on a daily basis, Zimbabwe’s greatest social commentator on a different level from all of them, he is not only Zimbabwe’s greatest, he is the custodian of Zimbabwe’s music culture, he is a living legend with no limit, long live Mukanya, Hurricane Hugo, Mr Music, once you go the Mukanya root, there is no going back as there is nowhere else, the best wine is stored in deep underground cellars.
Mkanya chibaba iri lelevel re music handifunge kuti vachacharibata futi coz hey i remember ma days e Qeens hotel ummmm painge pasina kuchipa big uppp Gudoo
First heard the song when I bought the vinyl album with my first payout in 1987? and have loved the song ever since that it has become my "national anthem" - 33 years later I am still listening to it as a reminder that GOD is out there.Thank you Mukanya. But abve and beyond all this thanks be to GOD for the gift of LIFE
