The song Hwahwa (Beer) was released in 1985, that was five years after Zimbabwe's independence, so as a great musician he was trying to help rebuild our great society, whose moral fabric was torn by the long Second chimurenga or war of independence. He was discouraging people from abusing alcohol because of its negative consequences on a young society that was not only celebrating independence but in a peacebuilding process.
First version of this song is from the album Hokoyo (1977/78). The second version is a 1985 single (alternate version), then this version here is from the 1989 album Chamunorwa.
It would be actually very cool if we had lyric videos for these songs. We would follow the songs more closely that way. But otherwise very excellent work from Mapfumo
