    Thanks for this video guys! Great video. On my 2006 Honda Civic I was getting a Check Engine light. I used a cheap scanner and it turned out to be the P0128 alarm code. After some googling, it was either the temperature sensor or an old/faulty thermostat. I went with the thermostat replacement because the car was running colder than usual. Saw this wonderful video and I replaced the thermostat in about an hour. Parts cost about $20 bucks. The auto shop was going to charge me $250-$300. Saved myself $230 easy! Thanks again.

    Im a 60+ mom. My sons tire went sideways driving to work. He has it towed to my home.. With youtube and a mom wanting to save her child money, I replaced the ball joint , new axle, and brakes. My son was so scared to drive it that day 🙄. 1 year now and his car is still driving great. ( I did have a mechanic friend look at it for safety purposes. But thank you for this video cause my car thermostat just needed to be replaced and im out of work right now. Great and helpful video. Signed " yo mama shoulda been a mechanic". Lol

    Hey guys great easy video I'm a single girl with a beat up 2008 Honda Civic lx it has 154000 miles on it and I just had the radiator replaced over the summer and just last week my temperature gagae has been going all the way up when I put the heat on it seems to help but not for long there is nothing leaking as both the resovore and main coolant housing areas are full with antifreeze so I'm not very educated when it comes to cars and but being that I am single I have been tryin to learn some things when it comes to my own vehicle acting up and your video has been easy to understand and I like how you take your time to walk thur each step and let your veiwers know what tools they may need to get the job done. NOW i haven't been brave enough yet to tackle on fixing anything yet that my car needs but it does help to know what exactly mayb the issue so that when i do take it to have someone look at it or do the repairs that they aren't tryin to rip me off when they see a chic coming alone to their shop.
    So thanks again for taking the time to shoot theses videos it really does help those who need it

    $30 for A thermostat and a seal, $20 for a gallon of coolant. $30 for A brand new socket wrench set. And a roll of paper towel from my kitchen.
    Done. Only $80, my civic gets a normal temperature. I get a new wrench set and a good mood.

    Thanks a lot for the this really informative video! I have two questions:
    1) My situation is the opposite of overheating: it takes time for the temperature to go up and it drops down again at high speed, while it goes back to normal in traffic. I don't get a check engine light or anything else. Should I still change the thermostat?
    2) what is the type/model of the original thermostat and is there a suggested brand of coolant?
    I would be grateful if you or anyone else that knows could answer my questions.

  • @LucaMontana7
    @LucaMontana7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question - my honda is boiling coolant in the reservoir tank. The radiator fans don't come on and the engine does overheat. If I turn on the A/C then 2 fans come on but it doesn't cool down the temp much. The question is - do I need a new fan or is the radiator fan connected to the thermostat and if the thermostat is stuck or won't open then is it a tell tale symptom (radiator fans not working) because the thermostat won't open?

    • @thromboid
      @thromboid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It took more like an hour for me (outside in cool weather) and even then the fan only ran for a few seconds. You can warm it up faster by running the engine at 2000-3000 RPM, and an OBD adapter will let you monitor the coolant temperature as you go.

    • @thromboid
      @thromboid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To rule out a fault with the fan, try running the AC - the condenser and radiator fans should both come on immediately, if it's anything like my Honda.

      @charlescardenas7020 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your response!
      Only one fan does come on when I turn on the AC …. in this case do you suspect the condenser fan not working or just better off replacing it

    • @thromboid
      @thromboid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charlescardenas7020 I hoped it might help, even after a year. :) You could test the suspect fan motor with a 9 V battery. If it's good, check the relevant fuse(s), relay, and wiring/grounds, and the thermal switch that turns the radiator fan on (AKA ECT 2, usually found at the base of the radiator).

    Should the drained coolant be discarded, or can it be reused if drained into a clean pail? (Trying to eliminate unnecessary toxic waste.)

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it were me I would dispose of it properly and use new coolant - if it is clean/new it's ultimately up to you but any oil/dirt/etc that makes it way in can reduce the efficiency of the cooling system or lead to premature wear of your water pump, radiator, etc.

      Your best bet would be to clear it and see if it returns - if your drive cycle (check smog status) completes and it hasn't come back then you know you've fixed the problem. Only exception is if you have an inspection coming up.

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way that the coolant thermostat can cause engine oil and coolant contamination would be if the thermostat stuck closed and caused the vehicle to have an over heat condition and damaged the head gasket or the cylinder head it’s self.

    People need to also know that most of the non-OEM thermostats for this car will NOT come with a new rubber gasket. Why? I have no idea. I don't know how smart it would be to reuse a 10-15+ year old rubber gasket after it has been exposed to that much head and hot coolant sitting tight against a very hot engine block. So its kind of a rip off. It cost me and additional $5 to buy it separately, and it was hard to find in stock. I drove around to 4 different auto parts stores and finally found one that carried a couple of them. That really blows my mind since this is supposed to be one of the most common problems on these cars and an easy DIY job. They carry so many different brands of thermostat but almost no gaskets. Who would want a new thermostat with no gasket?
