3:07 is so good, I can't really explain it, but it almost gives me chills how good it is. You can really hear the anguish in the singer's voice, and since it seems likely this song is told from Lu Guang's perspective, it goes to show how painful it must be for poor Lu Guang trying so hard to save Cheng Xiaoshi. Something about the SFX (I'm not sure what you'd call it exactly) on "time" in the line "Time is like music" is also really pleasing to me for some reason. And 1:43 is just so beautifully sad, I can't see this as belonging to anyone other than Lu Guang. Just the whole verse has so much emotion and incredible imagery and goes to show how much Lu Guang is keeping under the surface, how much he secretly cares for Cheng Xiaoshi. The fact he would break his own rule to save his best friend, it just really shows how much he means to him. As they say, actions speak louder than words. Lu Guang might not voice it, but he really does have such a deep love for Cheng Xiaoshi. 😭Btw I mean "love" as in the fraternal (aka brotherly) kind, but if you want to interpret it as romantic love, well, each to his own I suppose.

Others have said this, but the reason Lu has that rule is because he doesn't want Cheng to change anything and potentially affect Lu being able to save him.
He was breaking the rule the entire time, but doing it to save CXS.
ok i'm kinda obsessed with your edits? the static-y lyrics to match the vocals; the backward lyrics being timed well; CXS and LG's faces being visually obscured during the backward vocals but then at the end when it's backward vocals+normal vocals, you can see their faces but the pulsing effect is still there. yeah this video is perfection

I found this anime on accident. I didnt know how to take the animation at first because it was so different from what I was used to. But omg I fell in love and I have yet to skip the openings. They are so mesmerizing. Thanks for this lyric video.
I was recommended a random video of a someone's anime openings list and this song caught my attention. After listening to this song dozens of time I started the series and was pleasantly surprised by its quality. Truly one of the better accidents in my life.

Amazing how the lyrics shown in the actual opening makes it seem like they feel somewhat in control of the situation, meanwhile they hid an entire set of lyrics that come after where they stop the opening length version of the song, in which they feel completely hopeless.

basically in s2 ep1 lg gets a "flashback" to cxs dying in his arms, so the fandom took that and ran with it lol assuming in an alternate timeline cxs dies and lg either jumped or did some kind of time travel shenanigans to go back and save him!

i watched the flashback part of the last episode a lot, and everytime, every SINGLE time , i end up crying, the fact that that scene can make me cry even after i already watched it a lot just shows how masterful and amazing the writing in this show is, i was honestly worried that s2 would be a disappointment because s1 was just so good, but these guys really outdid themselves

I find it really interesting how both Overthink and Vortex are from Lu’s perspective even through he has the least screen time in them. Lyrics are on the nose

Thanks so much for these lyrics! We like to think of ourselves as rational beings that will always choose the greater good. Take the classic Trolley Problem for instance, a trolley is barreling down some train tracks towards two people tied to the tracks. The trolley can't stop in time, nor is there enough time to untie those people. The only thing you can do is flick a switch that just so happens to be next to you to make the train switch tracks and instead only kill one person (who is also tied to the tracks). 1 < 2, so naturally you might think that the option that saves the most lives (in this case the two instead of the one) would be the most morally-sound choice. And from a utilitarianism perspective it would be. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one" as Spock once said.
But what if those two people on the first track were random strangers you'd never met, and the one person on the other track was a friend, or romantic partner, or a family member? Who would you choose to save then? What if, instead of two people there were five, or ten, or more? Would you sacrifice all those lives to save the person you care for most? Or would you sacrifice the life of the person you hold most dear for the lives of complete strangers? If you answered that you would still choose the lives of the many over the life of the one, then you are either a liar, deluding yourself, or a far better person than I and most other people are. I'd like to say that I would choose the greater good but the truth is I am selfish, I would save the one person I care about most over the lives of total strangers. I would sacrifice anything just to be with them, and pray that they can forgive me for choosing them over the good of the majority. I would move heaven and hell just to stay with them, even if it meant becoming a villain. Because they are so important to me, that I feel I cannot live without them. I would probably want to die if they weren't in my life. So, I would sacrifice anything for them. And I'd wager most else would, too, even if most believe that they wouldn't. As I said, anyone who claims otherwise is either a rare breed of person or in denial. I am not in denial, I acknowledge that I am a selfish, flawed human being. And for those who say they wouldn't do anything, hoping that it would absolve them of responsibility, I'm sorry but you are still responsible for your actions (or lack of inaction, in this case). Even the decision to not make a decision is still, itself, a decision. We don't always get a choice, unfortunately, so all we can do is try our best and live with our choices.

I love the reversed lyrics parts, they are really well done. One of those openings that makes me want to check the anime. But I must resist, I can alreadt barely finish any anime... 😭

@@qwertdwlrma Yeah, I know it's the first verse but reversed. I just meant that this song, plus the reversed part, are both perfect for this anime.
The weird things in the opening. Maybe most of them are placed to show that life is always an unexpected thing. The fact that he keeps falling means that all he does to try to revive people, or to make them avoid suffering, are all useless, so he always gets to the start point, where the person still dies or suffers, but maybe in a different way. Life and death, suffer or enjoy, luck or unlucky, evil or good, fair or fairless, all these things should stay as they are. Even though the fact that some characters have powers, this anime is more realistic than any other type of anime...
Even with the power to go to the past, you can't change it.
Knowing all that, Lu guang just tries to make the living people less sad for losing loved ones. He always tells Xiaoshi to not change things, and also tells him that death is unchangeable.
