Guest Lecture 5 : Beyond production - Marketing and adding value to organic and indigenous products

Kanangwa Newlove from Zambia, an inspiring organic farmer and marketer; Maria Shipapo, a geoscientist and indigenous food enthusiast; and Jacobina ‘Penny’ Lumambo, an aspirational organic backyard farmer and seed saver/sharing enthusiast, concluded the series of guest lectures with an evening showcasing agripreneurs from the region. Each shared their personal stories of entering farming or food production, their strategies for reaching markets with organic and/or indigenous foods, and offered inspiration for agricultural graduates and entrepreneurs. They highlighted the abundance of food that can be grown in a backyard and stressed the importance of shifting our food system from imports to locally grown organic and/or indigenous foods.
