  • Design for water is the bones of any Permaculture system and often times the way the layout works with water determines the basic shape of things. The Permaculture principles, which tell us to Observe and Interact and Design from Patterns to Details, need to be followed and developed in order for us to design for water on our sites. Termperate, Tropical, and Dryland climates each pose unique opportunities while designing for water.

I couldn’t stand not having a garden. I can’t even keep any small plants in my place because of my building’s rules so I’ve taken to planting on the side of a freeway off-ramp where there is a piece of grass that collects trash lol

Invaluable information in these marvelous tutorials. This is the kind of things that should be taught in schools. If one in 10 students take up just one element learned in classes like this, the positive impact of harmonious living with nature will reward us 10 fold.

Rain water is not automatically clean water simply because it hasn't touched the ground. You'll want to filter/boil it if you intend to use it.

    good video, good info,
water is life, but too much water in tropical country such malaysia and sloppy hill will post land slide issue.
i know slope is no good for ag, but can't help it.
i think for sloppy terraced orchard, rain water should be lead away fast instead of let it soak into the soil causing saturation...
any video on this ? too much rain and sloppy hill gardening ..
    thx

andrew ysk The danger of landslides will be much more reduced, if you discard monoculture. It's very important to have trees and plants of varying heights from canopy, fruit trees, bushes, shrubs, climbers and ground covering creepers; only all of these together in the slopes will hold the substrate. The excess surface runoff will naturally form creeks...you can keep it alive by introducing ferns to the edges

I live in high desert near a hillside. Whn it rains the water wash out all nutrients fr my yard straight dwn to lower part of the city leaving the soil arnd the yard dry and sandy. How can I start this permaculture around my yard so water stays inside the yard only.

This all starts with rain, but where do we get the rain? It is in the water cycle, but some places have water deficit. In some of those places we can Move the Water! See this 2-minute short video to explain #movethwater. See how to kick-start the water cycle and how to reverse global warming.
