    Some amazing records over the years.
    1983 was the Tories' highest seat share since before the war.
    1992 The Tories got the highest numerical vote share in history, with over 14.1 million votes.
    1997 was Labour's biggest landslide ever and one of their largest vote share's on a percentage basis. The Tories had no seats in Scotland or Wales for the first time EVER
    2001 had the lowest voter turnout ever.
    2010 was the first hung parliament since before the Second World War
    2015 was one of the most disjointed for psephologists in their predictions along with 1992. The SNP landslide in Scotland.
    2017 saw the biggest share of the vote for the two main parties since the 1950s.
    2019 the Tories got their highest numerical vote since 1992, and the highest vote share percentage wise since 1979. Also taking seats off Labour they had never won before in the "Red Wall".
    2024 the most disproportionate election in history. The winning part taking only 9.7 million votes to win a landslide second only to 1997. The Tories lowest numerical and percentage vote share EVER. Labour winning Conservative seats that they could never have even dreamt of winning before this election. The Lib Dems biggest seat share since the 1920s (if you class the Liberals as the same party). Low voter turnout, pretty close to record levels. A party coming in 3rd in vote share, and second in 96 deatz, but only winning 5 (one on a double recount (Basildon)).
    I love British political history. It's so dramatic and interesting 😅

      2024 we had the second lowest voter turnout like in 2001. And Labour had the lowest vote share to win a majority ever.

      In South West England Labour won 24 seats, the LibDems 22, and the Tories 11
      In the popular vote share, the tories had a 100.000 vote majority against labour in the region, the lib dems came in third in the region.

      @@EFC.2000tactical voting embolden results like that. In what way can the tories get 100,000 more votes in a region yet get less seats than Labour , it’s ridiculous. Look at the Lib Dem’s. They only function in the south of England and serve no real purpose other than protesting against the tories, they get 3.7M but reform got 4.1M and only 5 seats. I mean they really didn't win a lot of constituencies and most people voted for them as a protest as they had no chance of winning those seats
      For what it's worth Labour only won a handful of seats in which the united left+center had less votes than Conservatives and Reform combined
      Most people are happy with a strong labour party and a strong liberal presence, if you sum Labour+Lib Dems in southern constituencies where Labour has no chance of winning+greens you get a majority kinda close to the parliamentary majority

    • @thomashowe1509
      @thomashowe1509 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AN456dyou are aware putting Labour, Greens, Lib Dem’s together is foolish as they are liberals but will never work together since no advantage would ever come from that. Most vote Labour on the left but the more extreme elements will always vote greens, with disaffection towards Cons and Lab making people vote Lib Dem. And for what it’s worth in their best environment Labour got less votes than Corbyn, so that’s hardly an endorsement for a “strong Labour Party is it”. Labour benefited from 2.7M Tory voters staying home and millions more voting Reform. If there isn’t a deal made I’d be stunned

    • @plokijm22
      @plokijm22 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @AN456d I think Reform's success in this election was much more profound than just a "protest". I still have a visuon they will replace the Conservatives as the Right Wing option in British politics. The Tories lost their only credible argument before 2024, and that was that they were the better financial stewards than Labour. Now they don't have that, they're done for I think.
      Reform's problem was that their vote was too widely spread. I do think in seats where they came second they could really snatch a big chunk of Tory voters and start to make somw in roads.

    I'm a Green Party supporter, I don't like Nigel or Reform at all, but I will say 14% of the vote for 5 seats isn't true democracy and isn't fair. PR is the only way forward and that's something both sides of the political spectrum can agree on.

    • @thomashowe1509
      @thomashowe1509 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree. If you had PR Reform would have got around 70-80 seats and probably unified with the Tories to achieve their brand of conservatism. Labour won with 33% of the vote, so despite their win it’s clear they were not embraced, in fact reform stopped the tories from getting around 230-240. To me if you have to rely on the right being split, don’t get more votes than Corbyns , and use an undemocratic system to inflate your support that isn’t democracy. It’s been mentioned that depending on how badly the tax rises go over during the winter Labour could already be polling at hung parliament territory since 5.7% away from them means no majority. Yet again that’s not democracy it speaks to a small coalition that at the first sign of trouble can tumble.

      Depends. If the tories head to the right then reform will do a deal with them since there would be no point fighting the same side. That would address the base problem straight away. Just depends. If Labour start to lose ground after the tax rises in the winter then it’ll be hard with such a small swing of 5.7% needed to take the majority away from them to fight that.
