“If you don’t like somebody’s idea… agree with it and then do the opposite.” Never have more inspiring words been given to the cinematography community. Thank you Patrick for your bravery and solidarity.

Yes ,as in he is a real working DoP , not a legend in his own lunch time ,Canon C300Mk1 toting , bozo telling people they need 10 tiny LED lights to shoot an interview against a white wall.

He isn’t lying about getting better as a cinematographer by watching him squiggle little lines. I’ve been watching for over a year now and my work has transformed immensely!

Every time I watch some random cinematography tutorial and the host says "L of the room" or "upstage key" or "pockets of light" or "neg the camera side".... I'm like.... ah, I see you're a man of culture as well. But I'm glad the OG source is back now.

I just have to say, I fuckin love you. And thankyou for everything you do. I tried my best at pushing the framework on the small budget horror feature film I just shot as a DP, we will see if it worked most of the time lol.

Thank you for the brilliant and eminently practical advice of, “Drag your feet till the 1st AD starts to panic.” That’s at least as valuable as the lighting advice. Manage the on set workflow. Thanks so much!

I love your channel and respect your content but if feel that what you are saying here can be interpreted the wrong way. It only makes sense to force this kind of simplified + faster lighting technique when you are shooting uninspired tv commercials or scripted nonsense.
Otherwise, spending much more time on getting the shot to be just right is absolutely crucial. Lighting in film is so often paramount but it should not never determine actor blocking and camera staging too much when you're shooting more serious projects.
I'm sure this is obvious to you, just mentioning it for those who might not have the knowledge and misinterpret your words here.

I'm actually considering some of my fingers removed and replacing them with thumbs so I can give this more likes. THIS - this is the way! I spend what some consider an absurd amount of time trying to simplify setup, angle, coverage, etc. Somehow complicating things has come to be associated with being a pro. Thanks so much for doing these and for your practical, honest approach. Practical advice and DP rules to live by... all in 07:49. Rave on mi amigo.

Im not sure why I find this channel so irritating and i think it is because it feels like complete bs. There is nothing worse than reverse engineering something when its not based on fact but supposition. Either stating the obvious or implying things that have no real basis in fact seems to be the constant MO here. And he is endlessly contradicting himself. Its low level info that anyone could pitch up with and i just dont see why anyone would listen to this guy. Where does this expertise come from. Its full of generalisations and contradictory positing. A classic he ends with shoot into the corner having just covered an ad set up that doesn’t at all. This is such bs i really find it unbelievable that anyone is taken in by this talk of framework and this confused but portentous commentary. ??!
