It's one rule that I understand both sides of, TBH. On one hand, if a catcher gets the throw early enough, it's perfectly good baseball to block the plate, in my opinion. You're preventing a run, right? That said, the runner *ALSO* has a "right" (if you will) to score. *I* think it's mostly dependent on how good and quick the throw is.
@@storyofcory yeah its tough but def better than letting catchers get run over. At least its only on the throw though. Once he has the ball he can block it all he wants
the one thing that i hate about it is that basically everytime, they are called out by the umpire and then it is overturned. the umpire clearly determined that the catcher was not blocking or interfering, if so, the umpire would call that right there on the field.
This home plate interference rule has caused far far more problems than it ever solved. There is no way for a catcher to always keep his eyes on the ball while getting set for a tag and somehow still be aware to perfection of giving the runner a perfect lane. Even with this, because it is so subjective and the standard is basically one of perfection, any runner has a great chance of challenging and winning even on situations where they are clearly tagged out. It makes the game less fun to watch.
Oliver Marmol was pissed about the strike zone, but what really set him off was when Buckner told him there was a reason Oliver wasn't a player anymore.
At least he made it to the Show, aka MLB. Buckner probably sucked so bad at baseball that the only way he could make it to the show was to buy himself a ticket lol.
The interference rule is so bad … it’s getting to the point where the catcher can’t even catch the ball & then they will be worried about the rule which will lead to errors … such bs
It's ridiculous back in the day you could block the plate and Runner could knock over the catcher which I don't agree with that but this is ridiculous I mean catcher now got to like try to tag him and stand on the side of the plate
@@skynicholson4121 Go home, you’re drunk. Just like all the idiot baseball fans who think the scores are too low,….which is probably what prompted the rule change.
There is a simple fix for this. Let the catcher tag the plate instead of the runner. That way the ump can clearly see who wins, and it keeps both runner and catcher from getting hurt.
The thing about the catcher blocking the plate rule is that, when a call is overturned for blocking the plate, I kinda feel bad for the umps because it wasn't their call.
Being allowed to block the plate with your body is absurd. If they are allowed to do that why doesn’t the catcher just lay on top of the plate every time their is a runner coming in and the pitcher can come down and field the ball while the runner is struggling to get under him.
They need to adjust the Posey rule. It's out of control. The play involving Sanchez and Toronto is 100% horseshit. It's also gotten to the point where every play at the plate is getting challenged whether it's warranted or not because there's a better than average chance a replay will overturn it.
Soooo what was up with the first clip? It looked pretty clean to me. The catcher is receiving the ball and puts a quick tag while having his legs far apart so a sliding runner can go between them to still try to score which the runner does.
While I don’t agree with the blocking the plate rules I also don’t understand a manager getting thrown out over it when it’s not the umpires call to overturn it. It’s literally the home office officials who over turn the call.
If I was a 3rd base coach, I'd start sending runners home every time. There's no way for the catcher to receive the ball and make a tag. This is ridiculous and ruining the game Edit:also a bad throw seems more desirable than a perfect throw Because it forces the catcher to move. They're being punished for putting the throw where it needs to be to be make the tag
Let's just make every play at home a force, like it's beer league slo-pitch. Double bag at first, the whole deal. That way nobody ever touches each other :)
Count them ladies and gentlemen: 5 I repeat FIVE times the home plate collision rule came into play in the month of August. It had NEVER been called at any other point this season. Even when Kevin Cash from Tampa Bay challenged it in early July they did NOT overturn the call. And now all of a sudden, it’s been called left and right. Also another update, they called it two more times on Tuesday September 6th. Because it’s a hard rule to interpret it just adds more aggravation and frustrations. It’s too late for MLB to do anything about it this season. But they need to clarify this rule during the winter. As for the rest of this season, perhaps catchers should just wave the runners home, handing them a cold bottle of water and some sunflower seeds as they pass by. MLB needs to change this RULE NOW for better or worse for the integrity of baseball because in my honest opinion this is getting out of hand.
The home plate rule is the most wishy washy rule in all of baseball. They need to either get rid of it or come up with a proper fix to this dumb rule in the offseason.
I mean yeah, but then there's a high risk of injury for the catcher. Posey suffered a season-ending injury due to a home plate collision. The rule is indeed bs though.
I feel like teams are gonna start exploiting that home plate rule now. Like they know on a close play even if they’re called out the catcher is likely to do something considered “interference” and they could get the run anyway
Is the catcher supposed to stand in the second row and try to tag the runner out? Plenty of room to slide in, which is what the runner did! Rule is so dumb.
So the Giants ejection of Kapler was because of a taunting gesture that Garcia made at them as a taunt. The umpires went to the Giants dugout and gave Kapler an earful, telling him how to manage his team which Kapler took offense to because he AGREED with the umps that Garcia was taunting and was going to deal with it so Kapler said some choice words and that got him his first ejection as a Giant. This was more because the Dodgers owned us BADLY this year and the Giants were playing like the worst team in MLB so tensions were very high in the entire clubhouse at the time.
