Now that's... that's how you promote a better cartoon show. Well done!
Thank you, Jeff! Glad to help get the word out any way I can.
We’re really getting Toonami rewind before GTA6
The reason the world is wild in 2024 is because gta 6 is coming and that's leaving a shock to the world
I remember watching Toonami when I was eight years old.
As an ‘03 kid I cannot wait to experience this. Nice video, got it going like an og cable promo.
It was a fun little project to work on. Thanks for stopping by
After school Toonami was the real Toonami.
Sailor Moon was the first anime I've watched when I was a kid
God, I wish I still had cable.
I think there may be a few decently priced streaming options.
If anyone knows more information on how to stream it please let me know. I wish HBO Max just let us watch live through the app@@JazzMasterSamurai
@@JazzMasterSamurai I only have netflix and Prime Video. All I can afford now.
I thought exactly the same thing when I heard that this was happening.
@JazzMasterSamurai Thing about those streaming options is that they end up lumping you in with channels you'll probably never use and it ends up pretty much like cable. Also, the cheapest streamer I know is Sling T.V and that's $30 a month. For one channel. I love Toonami but fuck that. The only other option (and the one I used before they were all taken down and it became pointless) is essentially pirate live streams of Toonami. I did that when it first was brought back but lord was it a hassle.
Nice to see anime no longer stuck on Adult Swim since so many younger viewers watch anime now.
Who’s gonna tell him?
This is still Adult Swim. It has aired earlier at night since 2023.
@nedrostram2360 so does Cartoon Network just cut off earlier? That's kinda wack for kids that might not be allowed to watch Adult Swim's broadcasting and still want to watch whatever CN is running.
@@djhero0071 Yeah, it now ends at 5.
@@djhero0071cartoon Network shrunk into a baby now. No one's going to watch that tbh
Hopefully, Tenchi Muyo and Tenchi Universe join the lineup eventually! Two of my old favorites and I have fond memories of watching them on Toonami.
Add Tenchi and Outlaw Star and it would be like 2001 all over again.
Tenchi is a must, since most of the series aren't on crunchyroll. It's too bad FUNimation shut down last month, as that was the only place to watch older Tenchi series dubbed in English.
Toonami gets the checkered past treatment! Sailor moon added back to the block ! Welcome back to the block my guardians ❤❤❤❤❤
I’m excited to see it on TV again. Although it’s still weird to hear Usagi and not Serena.
@@JazzMasterSamurai it's the uncensored version I got used to it after s2 DVD by viz media years ago and yes our Uranus and Neptune are confimred as a Yuri couple in the Viz dub! XD
BUT which Sailor Moon VIZ media Rebooted ALL 5 Sailor Moon Seasons INCLUDING Sailor Stars in English but I really doubt that SAILOR Stars would be the one shown via Toonami Rewind.
Did Toonami switch to Saturday evenings back in 2004? It’s been so long since we had a weekday block.
It switched over to Saturdays in April of 2004. Just over 20 years ago. Wild.
Yeah it did happen back then on April 17, 2004 when Toonami first moved from weekday afternoons to Saturday nights on primetime on Cartoon Network during my early teenage years in the mid 2000s.
2004 in 2024
Yeah, that move basically began the slow burn of Cartoon Network that would only get worse in the late 2000s. Starting in 2004, another block called Muguzi (basically a watered down version of Toonami), replaced the older block on weekday afternoons (For those that remember watching TMNT 2003 and Static Shock on CN back in the day, they usually aired on Muguzi, same with Code Lyoko (first series) and Totally Spies!). Toonami got the Saturday night block back after losing it for about a year or 2 to yet another block called "Saturday Night Action". Muguzi got canned after Spring 2007, yet Toonami never returned to the afternoons and it too would get discontinued in late 2008. The rest is history..
The way I remember it is, Saturday toonami was for new anime episodes, and weekday toonami was for reruns.
This is actually so huge considering how long it’s been and the impact weekday toonami played for all of us.
Definitely. It was our gateway drug into the anime world.
This is cool. Rearing the three anine shows that introduced us to anime. This time, it's the uncut version without the unnecessary censorship.
It's almost surreal to see these shows airing uncut at that time of day.
Now we just need this on MeTV Toons.
Hey, if Crunchyroll was A-OK to work with Weigel bringing Speed Racer onto MeTV Toons, I don't know how it would've been hard getting DBZ on there.
And then you remember, Prime Time.
That would be cool, but I can’t see them sharing such a flagship brand like Toonami with another network.
That’s how the Kids WB disaster happened all those years ago.
They’re already planning to air older anime on MeTV Toons
@justju0rd how violent will they be though? And how will they compare to the Hanna-Barbara toons they'll be airing alongside them?
Look forward to og toonami time from when I was a kid, I'm 34 now, so it's been over 20 year
Same! It's wild to think it's been that long.
To think 20 years ago around this time the block shifted to weekends only and now it’s back on weekdays
Full circle moment!
@@JazzMasterSamurai Forsure
Sailor Moon is back. That's good enough for me.
It was surreal seeing on TV 20 years later.
Can we talk about how Sailor Moon in any form hasnt been on tv in 20+ years??? Like this is amazing!!
I was thinking about this the other day. My first exposure to Sailor Moon was on a local NBC affiliate who syndicated the show and aired it at 4:30pm when the DBZ run wrapped up.
How far we’ve come.
@@JazzMasterSamurai mine was Sailor Moon on Toonami so it’s a full circle moment.
My body is ready. But like 80 percent of the country, I don’t have cable.
I really hope they live stream this!
That would be awesome!
When toonami fizzled out i ended up buying the shows i missed most. Which happed to be all the shows you put down 😅
We all have great taste. That’s how I’m choosing to cope with years of buying physical media.
When I first started buying them I was kinda surprised by how much they censored the toonami stuff 😂
omg this is so cool! at first I thought this was a fan project
We'll see how fun it ends up being!
While this is nice, I'm concerned this time slot might eventually be a replacement for their Midnight Run time slot. It's bad enough the Midnight Run has been shrinking over the last few years. Honestly, Toonami is a nice change from most of the garbage ran on Adult Swim throughout the week.
I get these shows require licenses to run, but you mean to tell me Toonami doesn't have access to Cartoon Network's huge vault of shows that require little-to-no license to air? That used to be part of Toonami's thing when there wasn't enough anime to fill the lineup. Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Batman TAS, Thundercats, Voltron, etc.
Hell, they could even pad out their lineup by re-running old promos and segments, like Trapped in Hyperspace.
I don't see the main block going away any time soon. I'd love to see some of the old music videos and speeches air during this block. In many cases, that content only aired on TV once. As for the shows, the DCAU shows seem like a likely addition if they ever went that route. I think time is the only obstacle right now.
Good job! I gotta get back to making this style of content bro!
You should!
Okay I'm going to say it:
If not Checkered Past proper; then the OG PPG series *NEEDS* to be part of _this_ down the line!
I think CN is still holding on to it and this being an Adult Swim block is playing a huge part in it not being there.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awesome 👍
Thanks ✌️
you're welcome 🙂👍
Naruto was never on at the same block as Sailor Moon or DBZ, but i get it, the next generation grew up watching Naruto. It's really good too. But man if we could get G Gundam....
A lot of people from the same generation as dbz and Sailor Moon stayed with the block when Naruto premiered. Me included. Naruto came to Toonami only a few months after GT ended, and whether people liked GT or not, A LOT of people watched it. After it ended, people went right to Naruto.
Side note: hope we get Yu Yu Hakusho and Teen Titans on here at some point. OG Dragon Ball too.
Both Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z made their Toonami debuts in the summer of 1998. About 6 years later, the original Naruto anime made its premiere on Toonami on Cartoon Network in September 2005.
@@SSJ491 yes I'm aware
Time ouuuut! Get seeeeet!
And go. :)❤❤❤
Pardon our dust.
This will be so epic,i wonder if they'll bring back some of the lesser known/underrated shows like they showed back in the day (ie moribito and witch hunter robin). An issue I have with modern toonami is they only really show the big hits, while i understand that it also seems they only air shows that are licensed by the crunchy/funi brand.
But then again they did air casshern a few years back, which isn't that known. Same with mindgame movie.
I think they are still a bit hamstrung by the whole Crunchyroll thing, but its nice to see Viz and potentially Toei stepping up to the plate to make this happen.
I can see a bit more rotation eventually, but they have to start somewhere.
@@JazzMasterSamurai yeah hopefully, it's good viz and toei are stepping in tho
Looks like Yu Yu Hakusho will be harder to acquire since Toei didn't make the anime. It's made by Pierrot, makers of Naruto and Bleach, but adult swim licenses those programs through Viz rather than Pierrot.
@@NewGabeOrder aww, well here's hoping they work something out
Ah, our annual Toonami reboot lol
I remember the first time i saw sailor moon i knew i wanted to become an astronaut and sail around the moon. Russel Crowe has his fightin round the world, i have my sailin round the moon.
A good old fashioned anime!
OMG FINALLYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!
Just not the same without the original DBZ Ocean/Funi dub. I get the licensing and all of that but still ...
I wish they could to both lol
fuck what the people have to say negative things about this idea.
This is the best idea ever for me!
(Pardon my french)
Kids love it! 👍
So do adults 25-35! 😂
Yay!! And i have cable!!
Cable squad. 😎
@JazzMasterSamurai I pitched this idea to Steve Blum at a convention once, I didn't think he'd actually do it!! Your welcome toonami faithful!!
I still miss Moltar as the host of Toonami.
RIP Moltar
I’m so excited for this I’m wondering is toonami going to air the OG dragon ball z rock the dragon verison?
It’s not the Ocean Dub unfortunately. It’s the DBZ Kai dub we’ve had for a few years. I don’t even know if that original rock the dragon version can be found anywhere legally anymore.
@@JazzMasterSamurai same I miss that verison of dragon ball z I haven’t seen the rock the dragon funimation dub and ocean dub aleast you can found rock the dragon music on TH-cam.
It needs to be weekdaily
If we keep on watching, anything could happen.
Isn't Toonami Rewind old? I swear they've done this before. Eh, maybe it was called something else. But anyway, I feel like it doesn't count if they use DBZ Kai. Guess they gotta do Kai for licensing reasons lol.
They’ve not really done a retro block like this before. Maybe you’re thinking of Toonami Preflight or Jetstream. Those are the most recent Toonami sub-branded blocks/brands.
lol I guess right after work for me always
"Hop in your vehicle and watch Toonami on the way home from work" It sounds crazy doesn't it.
What nostalgia it’s not the OG DBZ Dub and it’s not the old sailor moon dub (I understand why they can’t play the old sailor moon dub) but again this is supposed to be a boomerang like block and none of the stuff was around during the Cartoon Network Toonami so the crowd that they’re supposed to be appealing to myself that was a 90s kids this isn’t a “nostalgia feel” at all. Only the OG Naruto is the only thing that’s really a classic from the Cartoon Network Toonami block.
Yu yu Hakusho needs to be on this block.
That would be nostalgic for sure.
I hope they bring back tom 3 (2003-2007)

Which version of Sailor Moon? The original one, or the Viz Media redub?
I believe the original schedule post said it the VIZ Media redub.
Correct but that Redub IS based on the original Japanese dub so al 46 Episodes the 19945 DIC dub cut out at least 6 of them reducing it to a total episode count of just 40 episodes.
The DIC dub of Sailor Moon R is 42 episodes just 1 episode SHORT of the Original Japanese episode count.
@@JazzMasterSamuraiOK. It's a superior dub, but it lacks the English theme songs and the E/I content of the previous dub. I guess adult swim wanted a more faithful dub, and Cartoon Network is already good on the E/I stuff with Batwheels, Jessica's Big Little World and Bugs Bunny Builders airing for at least 3 hours a week, a requirement for TV stations. E/I content varies from network to network.
I can't wait and will support, but they should have at least fleshed that schedule out with Batman TAS, Batman Beyond, Samurai Jack, etc.
can't wait to hear that sailor moon theme song play on live tv again 🥰🥰
Unfortunately it won't be Dic dub no more cuzz I can hear viz dub from the start.
What did you think?
Sailor moon and dbz agd naruto were the big 3 for cartoon Network
Gen z watch this. that's the real thing
Light the signal and deploy the TikToks
So, cartoon network trying to get back to the basics, huh.
Cartoon Network is and has been dying for a couple of years now. Ever since cable started fading out and streaming started fading in, a lot of the cable networks for kids like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network stopped trying and just began throwing on reruns of SpongeBob and Teen Titans Go. I don’t see this as them trying to revive the channel because they are struggling, since they have a presence on HBO Max now, but maybe more like a send off before Cartoon Network really goes under for the worst.
No DBKAI I want the og DBZ
Tell TOEI
Kai didn't even exist back in the day.
It better not be a cash grab for "Haha memories go brrrr"
Jason Demarco deleted his account on Twitter
That’s how early this video was.
@@JazzMasterSamurai Damn
@@Dottmoi don’t usually make videos so close to breaking news, but hey it’s fine if it’s out of date. I think it is still a relevant update.
The pandering is real with this one!
I wouldve prefer original dbz funi with bruce falconer in my opinion.
I have a feeling there are some rights issues involved with that dub score.
@@JazzMasterSamurai yeah I understand. It just sucks and stinks. I don't even count kai as part of the rewind since it is just a remake with some of the voice actors replaced. Just doesn't feel that hard without the soundtrack.
@@galaxyjfoster4554 I hear ya. It's a different show that what we grew up with. I'd honestly love to see a HD version of the Ocean Dub. I remade the opening and ending in HD on my channel if you'd like to check them out.
@@JazzMasterSamurai cool would love to see that
I'm in the shame corner because I forgot about this on the 31st and the other day (the 5th) I fell asleep. The only thing I really wanted to watch was Sailor Moon on TV again, however, it was a nightmare trying to get Sling to work (unfortunately, we gave up cable a long while ago), so I had to use an app site that was a freaking heckuva lot smoother than that garbage. Well, third time's hopin' for this coming Friday. I'm just sad this isn't every weekday. No, we don't want to watch Gumball/TTG/whatever for the billionth time. Give us back Toonami!! Edit: All that said, I don't actually like the Viz dub for SM because the name pronunciations are American-ized as a high sounding instead of low, like in Japan. (Ah-me instead of Ay-mee). Other than that, it's a bit too creative with the dubbing and not a direct translation, which is disappointing.
Have you forgot what Toonami said? Uncut and so are Sailor moon as redub
Yeah but it's DBZ Kai... xDDD
Just show OG Toonami DBZ ffs
Kai isn’t that bad of a compromise.
How about toonami play some new anime, anime people never heard of?
I mean I understand what you mean, but what would be the point of calling toonami rewind?
I mean the main Saturday block is premiering a bunch of original shows right? That's not going away.
@@JazzMasterSamurai yeah lol it'd make more sense for him to bring up new shows on a regular toonami vid. That's like going on boomerang and saying "hey why don't you show brand new shows coming out" lol.
I wish but Toei NEVER made a SINGLE PRECURE season for a English dub and the few dubs that do exist Futari Wa Smile and Doki Doki Precure all 3 FAILED as ones that's why Toei NEVER allowed VIZ Media OR even Funimation to dub ANY Precure season themselves.
I've been thinking of Cybersix, assuming Toonami can secure a licensing agreement with TMS Entertainment. It never aired on Toonami before, but the US broadcast was plagued with censorship and skipped episodes. Hopefully Toonami (Rewind or not) airs all 13 Cybersix episodes uncut. Many anime fans on BlueSky Social want to see Cybersix on Toonami when possible.
Why DBZ Kai and not the original DBZ? -__-
Because Toonami currently has the airing rights to Dragon Ball Z Kai
The original DragonBall Z had a lot of filler given the date at the time. With KAI, it's going through the story just as it is intended.
It has to be a rights issue. The original show is such a slog only watching week to week.
I guess this is to cut costs, right?
they should add some more classics like transformers armada, gundam, g gundam, pokemon and yu gi oh
Yu Yu Hakusho
Gundam would be great. Hopefully in the near future.
Gonna be honest here. As rad as this sounds- hard pass for me. I only have internet and no cable tv. Sailor moon is on Hulu and there’s no need for a toonami reboot in my household. Hope it is successful, cuz I love toonami back in the day- but I won’t be contributing to the comeback.
I get how you feel. I'm honestly in it to see all the new(old) packaging and bumpers. I have the shows on physical media, but I want to get behind it to see what they can do going forward with some success.
At least there's Toonami Aftermath, right? Only Naruto is absent, but hopefully that website satisfies your classic action cartoon fix. Sailor Moon uses the DiC/Cookie Jar/Wildbrain and Cloverway/Pioneer dubs in case you were wondering.
..... Dragon ball and Naruto??? C'mon they play Naruto all the time...
They haven’t aired the original in a more than a few years.
As if I need a bunch of corporate people telling me what order to watch a bunch of shows that are readily available for free anytime anywhere... it's over.
Still no original Dragonball. Still no Robotech. Naruto? C'mon, Jack.
OG Dragonball has that sweet French blu-ray remaster. I hope that comes to America someday.
There's Toonami Aftermath if you still crave for more classic Toonami. At least Robotech and Voltron playing in rotation.
Can we get all of 4kids dubbed anime on there?
Great lineup. But get rid of that annoying Naruto character..
Believe it!
Cartoon Network is dead to me
