    In our family we boil the mazta balls separately from the soup because it absorbs so much liquid. So we make the chicken soup with chicken and boil the matza balls in salty water. :) I tend to only make them for passover but I have some schmaltz sitting in my fridge so I'll make some soon! Thanks for sharing, I'll try your recipe!

    My mothers side was from near Kiev. They liked the soft matzo balls. My fathers side was also from Lithuania. Good matzoh balls should bounce off of the walls. They also liked their food almost burnt. When they were dating, my fathers family mentioned what a terrible cook my mom was. She always cooked for the family and was told that she was a great cook. She went to their house one night and discovered the problem. Regional cooking.

    Sooo sweet. Mr Corey really liked it.
    One trick I learned is by one of my shul ladies is to buy whole chicken thighs and save the skins to make the chicken fat (i cant spell smaltz properly). The great thing about that is skin on chicken thighs are a LOT cheaper than skinless.

    Try the skin of chicken breast for the schmaltz. Easy to get off either cooked or raw chicken. I just use the recipe on the Streits box and just mix with a fork. My mother made chicken fat, but I did not continue the tradition. I do, however, make soup just as she did, minus the chicken feet, and it’s always delicious.

  • @SuperSparkles143
    @SuperSparkles143 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was so fun to watch! I would have done the same thing with just putting the whole chicken in the water rather than dealing with the skin :) Your son is an adorable taste tester and he seemed to love it! I love that this is toddler approved haha!

This is number 1 video. thank you. can you include an Ashkenazi cholent from either grandmother or the cookbook you used for the matzo balls. Also, how much matzo meal needs to be used in the recipe?

    I’m a little surprised on the removing the skin part. I would NEVER doubt a grandma’s recipe, but I’m definitely curious why, because there’s so much flavor in it, not to mention, during that time period you just didn’t toss perfectly good chicken skin, lol. I’m sure you could save it to make broth with for another recipe, and maybe that’s what she would have done, used it to make the soup part…

    I absolutely LOVE your videos, and I look forward to the recipes you share… but, girlfriend… you contaminating that entire box of matzo meal just made me cringe. lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    I was trained on food safety in my culinary arts classes I took as electives many moons ago, and my goodness. lol 😂 The egg laden beater on the counter and the chicken fat spoon in a supply box of matzo meal was scary. Please tell me you threw out the remainder of that box, or you made a TON of kneidlach with the remaining schmatlz so it didn’t go to waste. lol 😆

  • @ScottSherman1
    @ScottSherman1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You put a greasy spoon in a dry ingredient box?? Unless you are using all that matzah meal, I would get rid of the rest.

    • @sisterspooky
      @sisterspooky 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Scott Sherman - I am so glad I am not the only one who cringed at that major food contamination.
      I posted a message before I read yours, I mentioned using the remaining matzo meal with the remaining schmaltz (she used the spoon in) and making up the rest, or discarding the remainder. It definitely will make someone ill if it’s used again at a later date. Chicken _anything_ should never be placed in dry ingredients like that and stored at room temperature. That’s bad news all the way around. 😖😣
