    Have love this reel since I got my hands on it last winter. I would even argue it's a good way to teach someone new to bait casting with it. Throw on some #12 IviszX and it's a good bank angling option to learn with.

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      True! I hadn't even thought about that. Any backlashes newbies get wont be as frustrating

  • @trapin68

    My skipping reel is an Abu Garcia Sliver Max. I put mono backing on it to shallow up the spool, electrical tape, then tied on 40 yards of 15lb Abrazx. Took me a minute to dial in the brakes but it works like a charm and almost never backlashes. $70. But All my other reels are Lews. I love Lews.

    • @GunnFishTV
      @GunnFishTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some good ol electrical tape does the trick for sure

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but that tape is gonna go back after a very short amount of time. Plus, your spool is still moving faster due to the extra weight on it with that line beneath the tape. The shallow spool size of the Pro SP illuminates that potential problem. I see what you’re saying, I just don’t think what you do matches exactly what this reel can

    Looks like a great reel. I love the idea of a shallower spool and wish it would spread to other baitcasters. So much good line gets unused at the bottom of a deeper spool since it lowers the reel's gear ratio with less line on a spool. It would also be nice not to waste so much line if you want to change it out.

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! If you follow this method though, you won’t waste AS MUCH: th-cam.com/video/r4esGgPPhxI/w-d-xo.html

    Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I think you should do a gear review on either the Alabama rig, and show footage of your 14 pounder fight! Or for those anglers out there who use spinning reels, maybe do a gear review on the best spinning reel. That i think would be a great video!!!

      Cause they don’t do the same thing. One lessens backlashes on all lures, one is specifically designed for efficient target casting

    I think this would work for all my fishing. I rarely need to cast 40 yards.

    I know you are sponsored, cool! However, Lew's lost me in this way, my mach crush feels cheap in hand. I feel like the frames flex under load. Now that's a 200$ combo with the reel having an msrp north of 160$! If you told me it was a 100$ reel I could buy that(I would put my 80$ Abu max4 pro against my mach and I haven't ever taken a cast, yet).
    My son bought me the 99$ lews for my birthday and it feels better than the mach. Still not impressed with lews yet because the finish is rubbing off. It looks like I've owned it for 5 years but it has been only 8 months. Furthermore my roommate has a mach 2 and he feels the same. Ironically, the first lews I bought was a mach 1, it was broken right from the beginning. First cast! I brought it back to DICKS SPORTING with a little extra cash and a good team at DICKS in Plymouth ma. I thought I upgraded, boy was I wrong. I still have all the aforementioned gear but I find I'm using my 100$ combo's by favorite and 13 fishing more.
    In short I guess I fell victim to my TH-cam dudes and a great marketing strategy. Fool me 3 times, huh, shame on me. I will be telling this story for a long time. I will never recommend Lew's instead I would point people to Abu. I have the cheapest stuff Abu makes and it brings me more joy than any other manufacturer and lews has been the most disappointing in my 40 years of fishing.
    Love your content. Keep up the great.
    God bless.

      I’m sorry you have had that experience. The Mach lineup is the cheapest lineup for sure, and some of them are priced too high in my opinion. This reel though, feels nothing like your Mach, I can promise you that. Give it a try

      Neither one has a reel designed exactly for what this is. Diawa’s is close, but is bigger profile for punching and flipping specifically, now low profile skipping and casting

I only do them with products that truly make a difference in my fishing, which this one does. The fact that I also work with Lew’s, and have for 6 years, is totally irrelevant
