  • Link to the video about touring modifications made on my Royal Enfield Thinderbird 500 - • Touring Modifications ...
    About a year ago I made some touring-oriented modifications on my Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 to make the motorcycle a bit more comfortable and practical for a cross-country ride from India to Nepal and back. In this video, I share my feedback of the utility, durability and effectiveness of these modifications on my Royal Enfield after nearly 1 year of use. Broadly, the modifications made were as follows:
    1. Changed handlebar on Royal Enfield Thunderbird;
    2. LED Headlight on Royal Enfield Thunderbird;
    3. Headlight Grill for Royal Enfield Thunderbird;
    4. Acerbis Knuckle Guards on Royal Enfield;
    5. Fork Gaiter on Royal Enfield;
    6. Timsun Tyres on Royal Enfield (Front and Rear);
    7. Modified Tail Rack and Backrest for Royal Enfield Thunderbird; and
    8. Viaterra Saddle Stay for Royal Enfield Thunderbird.
    In this video, I've broken it down and explained my honest long-term review of each of these touring modifications made on my motorcycle. I hope you find this useful. Do leave a like and comment if you do. Please also do consider subscribing to my channel and watching some of the other content from my several motorcycle tours across India, Nepal and Tibet.

    I always enjoy when you talk about the bikes you ride. With all your riding experience you are really able to talk knowledgeably about the value of modifications. ALSO, very nice 'staging' for the video. You in front, Faith just behind, good audio, and nice graphics. I'm just starting my channel and am learning that those things do not happen by accident. Nicely done!

    For removing vibrations on handlebar of my previous motorcycle I had used the bar end weights of pulsar 150/180 bikes which are quite heavy and they dampens out the vibration to a much greater extent.. 💫

    Firstly thank you for making this video, I was one of the people who wanted to know about the setup.
    I use a similar RD style bar on my GT, though i bought a heavier unit, it still feels a bit light. it 3 years now and i am used to it. The comfort it offers makes it worth it. I was skeptical about the headlight, as most generic Chinese one create more glare than required illumination. Since i had a pair or Philips Ultinon H4 LED lying around, popped them in the stock headlamp and it solved my issue. The spread and intensity is better, reach almost remained the same. Sarath Shenoy recommended Timsun tyres when i asked him. He swore by them actually. Sadly they were out of my budget, probably the next set i will try and get them. Its always a pleasure to see your content. keep up the good work. GOD bless :)

    vibes are something that can't be eliminated. true. Tire review needed the most. Not many options available for the thunderbird in the market.
    I have a similar setup on my thunderbird 350 as well. Do Try a fatter version of that motocross handlebar if possible to source, goes a long way on the vibes

    Hey TFT! Great video! I miss seeing your riding footage but times are such that I doubt either of us will be out on the road anytime soon.
    As for your handle bars, as crazy as it sounds, you can fill them with sand and it should do wonders. Just plug the ends with cork or a rubber plug. For years and years we used lead shot or sand to fill lightweight bars on choppers and dirt bikes. You might give it a shot and see if that does the trick for you.

    Good to see you bro...
    For the handlebar, may be try the TB500X handlebar setup. RE parts are, usually, very fluid that way. One can interchange these parts easily.
    The handlebars are usually more complex in terms of the engineering for stability and control standpoint than we tend to realize, any aftermarket fitment is going to mess with that precision mechanics of the entire setup- along with the seating position, seat height, controls, balance etc.
    Wish you good health.
    Love and peace...

    Just a thought about handlebar weight. You already have bar ends which helps. You could try filling the handlebars with lead shot (BBs). If that helps dampen the vibration, you would know that a new set of heavier handlebars would help. If it does not make any difference, changing handlebars may not help. I used to own a KLR-650 single cylinder and it would also vibrate heavily. My hands would go numb after a couple of hours of riding. I finally sold the bike and bought a Vstrom 650 twin.

  • @dipankardas1760
    @dipankardas1760 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Like all your videos specially the narration. Since I am an Royal Enfield technician I would like to give you some suggestions. 500 cc will vibrate at high speeds, no doubt. Heavy tyres will increase unsprung weight, bad for suspension & comfort. Please maintain company specified tyre pressure, front 20-22 psi, rear 30-32psi, great for comfort and maneuvering. Front fork oil capacity has been respecified 490 ml(previously 420ml) per fork, we put 470ml at work shops. Interceptor fork covers are of very good quality though pricey. Try handlebar from Thunderbird X models with the bar end vibration dampers, will be great for posture and great leverage for turning. Feel free to ask anything, will feel happy if my suggestions improve your riding experience.
