    People tend to misinterpret the term Xeelee stomp. Usually people use it to describe a battle where the odds are stacked heavily in one’s favor, but in reality it’s a battle where one side has *no chance* of victory whatsoever.

    • @scoompaloompa
      @scoompaloompa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @@wilmagregg3131 the photino birds aren't really a weird exception, but more of an indescribably powerful race that we know absolutely nothing about. They're basically the Xeelee, but existing in dark matter rather than Baryonic matter. We can't use the Photino Birds as combatants in a sci-fi vs. simply because the only only thing we know about their capabilities is that they beat the Xeelee.

    • @wilmagregg3131
      @wilmagregg3131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scoompaloompa but the series does explain more details about them specifally that they dont actually use technology just there natural abilitys of maniplating space gravity and time.
      effetivly the photino birds are simply dark matter life forms who are unbound by the laws of time simply put you cant kill them because a previous version of them would replace them you cant stop them becauses they exist everywhere and at everytime at once.
      which explains why they are nearly unstopable the issue is HOW they even as indivuials someone exist everywhere at once if you kill a photino bird with blackhole gravity it SHOULD by all laws of physics and consciouness be dead but no it will repeat instantly from a younger version of itself with all the memories of the one you killed.
      effiectivly the photinos birds are like lovecraftian versions of phoneixs which is probably why the author called then photino BIRDS despite not really looking like birds.
      the only two sci fi weapons ive seen capable of defeating them is the stellaris gigastructures temporal erasure gun basically a solar system sized warship with a energy weapon that if it makes contact will spread across all timelines and erasure the target from ALL of them even the photinos couldnt escape it of course youd then have to track down and kill each indvidual photio bird with it.
      and then theres classic conceptual erasure basically reality warpering weapons like the infinity gaunlet that let you alter fundemtal parts of reality in which you could just say for instance "any photino bird naturally collapses into a blackhole" etc etc

The Xeelee are powerful but they’re rivalled by the Photino Birds, and the Downstreamers are “fighting” against the natural process of heat death itself.

    I love that two of Baxter's races made it on the list. I first found him through the anthology Vacuum Diagrams and I've been collecting (most) of his books ever since. I'm not crazy about everything he's written, but the really hard, really large-scale scifi he writes blows my mind. I think my favorite novel of his is Flux, which takes place within the interior of a neutron star (it's part of the Xelee series of stories).
    At one point, someone remarks that, in ancient times, when humanity was powerful, the greatest city was huge: one centimeter across!

    • @lamvuong5343
      @lamvuong5343 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But the unit used by the human inhabitants in the neutron star is mansheight , isn’t it ?? Does the novel have any explanation how they are able to survive within the harsh environment of a neutron star?

    • @synthetic240
      @synthetic240 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@lamvuong5343 True, it was man-height, but some knew a conversion, apparently.
      The reason they could survive is because the first colonists were uploaded human minds inside some sort of artificial clump of similar material (neutronium of some flavor).
      They just saw the world and everything in it through a human mind-set, if you will, so that they appeared to have a human body-plan and the super-fluid neutrons appeared clear as air. The truth of their procreation was probably a bit different to be sure. They probably have a human-like body-plan; a head, torso, limbs; but their actual perception is a illusion built into each of their hardware.
      I don't recall if the "animals" and "plants" were something ancient humans designed and colonized the star with or if they were always there.

    For those not familiar with them, their feats mainly include the construction of bizarre and fantastic machines, which includes the Novas (planet sized sentient machines capable of granting any wish), Star Dream (the most powerful supercomputer in existence capable of taking direct control of Novas), The Helm (A crown that grants its wearer complete control over space and time), and the Lorr Starcutter (a Vessel Capable of traveling between dimensions and through time).

      @@gallifreyandefense I think once you consider things like The Moment, the TARDIS ending and restarting the universe as a reset button, it is pretty easy to make a case of how insanely powerful. Plus at one point in their history they decided to remove magic from the universe and create psionics instead as they found it more stable and appealing . That's some God tier feats.

    • @gallifreyandefense
      @gallifreyandefense 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@christopherpackham732 and the crazy thing is how low ball those feats you mentioned are. Those are already so powerful and they are not even that high up.
      They actually reordered the cosmos into an infinite multiverse with separate universes unlike before, and then removed magic from that infinite multiverse (not just universe), and like you said created psionics. The key note here is that Rassilon did not rewrite the laws of physics. He wrote them in the first place. He created causality, logic, math, physics, and concepts as well. This wasn't simple matter manipulation, this was straight up reality warping, and changing the very nature of their multiverse.
      They created the infinite time vortex which touched every part of the Omniverse. The DW multiverse is only one of the multiverses in the omniverse. We know that the Time Vortex touched every part of the omniverse because the lampreys live in the Spiral and consider entire infinite multiverses as meals. They eat these multiverses completely or down to finite numbers. Like when Monica Lamprey ate infinite universes down to 18. They call the omniverse their restaurant.
      The Time Lords also limit themselves. They choose material bodies to watch over the Web of Time, choosing to live in it than above it. Time Lords don't actually live wholly in their body. They exist as a consciousness form outside of nspace, and cannot be killed completely by body damage. As seen when the master is brought back even though he didn't regenerate. But the process was interrupted. The Time Lords also can learn Quantum Mnemonics, the language of The Great Old Ones, which can rewrite universes, or create and destroy them, with words alone. The Word Lords, another version of the Time Lords from another universe learned and mastered quantum mnemonics. The Time Lords keep the secret to its pure form in The Matrix. Their database. So they literally just have it chilling and decided not to learn it. It is apparently similar to Block Computation Transfer, which is what they and the Daleks use to build things. Block Computation Transfer is basically making physical things out of math, and hacking the universe for free stuff and endless resources. But Quantum Mnemonics is changing reality with your words.
      The Transduction Barrier can take the force of 500,000 Chronovores before falling, each of which can consume dozens of universes easily and much more potentially. It anchors them to reality, makes them acausal, and protects them from antitime, all forms of matter and energy attack and many other things. Only a being such as the Carnival Queen could pass the Transduction Barrier. Though she did not overwhelm it and break it, she somehow slipped by it. It is important to note that the Carnival Queen is the collective consciousness of Time Lords who did not follow Rassilon into the rational universe and were kicked out of Nspace, and formed into a singular being. So, them being Time Lords probably has something to do with that feat of surpassing the barrier. Though with a wave of her hand, the Carnival Queen created a billion universes. So she's also incredibly powerful.
      There are definitely other feats and other things to say about the things I already mentioned. Like the Eye and the Barrier have more feats and uses than I could list, and are even more powerful than I described, as well as Time Lords themselves biologically and other tech.

    The Caeliar from the Star Trek expanded universe Destiny Trilogy novels were definitely advanced enough to end up on this list! Their technology is based around basically everything being made out of programmable catoms, including their own bodies. They build Dyson Spheres for privacy, not for power generation (because their own power generation outstrips that of a star’s output). Their entire civilization is devoted to “The Work”, an effort to scour the universe for another alien culture more advanced than they are.

  • @AM-kf2zt

    If you make an honourable mentions list, please include the Isu from Assassin's Creed. In that universe, not only is their technology directly or indirectly responsible for almost all of mankind's modern inventions, but they actually CREATED man. The Apple of Eden, their most famous tool could actually control and read people's minds, create simulations of alternate histories, act as repositories of knowledge, but is also partially sentient.
    Tools which act as Energy Weapons or Energy shields are mere scraps to them.
    They developed tech which could (temporarily) raise the dead and have them record information, and also tech which could heal wounds and possibly give immortality to the wearer (though the last one hasn't been verified).
    They can transfer their consciousness to cyberspace, create planetary sized energy shields, power sources which have lasted 10,000+ years and can actually READ the language of time.
    That means that they can time travel indirectly, rather than physically going to the future, but instead knowing what would happen if certain events are triggered and triggering them to make sure that they happen while leaving any necessary messages in the process.
    They are hinted at to have visited earth from other worlds and the only reason they were mostly wiped out was due to a double surprise attack of a Human-Isu hybrid led uprising and a Solar Flare which cooked the planet. On their own, each event could have been dealt with, but the two together surprised and overwhelmed them and led to their downfall.
    They STILL survived that but a low population would have resulted in a population crash so they instead transferred their consciousness to their machines.

    The Ancients aka Alterrans from the stargate franchise. Originally the first evolution of intergalactic humans and the "gate builders", they ascended and gained the knowledge and control over an infinite universe(and all derivations).

      Kenneth Kates This needs to happen! The Harrower is my absolute favorite ship in Star Wars. And I also love the Venator. I think the Harrower could win despite being more than 3,600 years older than the Venator class. Fun fact: Venator is latin for hunter, so it's basically a Hunter class Star Destroyer.

      Steve 343 SGC would win, hands down. Assuming it's around the time of SG:U, and that it's a single battle, the 9 BC-304s the SGC had at the time could take on the Systems Alliance fleet. They were basically on par (if not superior to) ascended Ancient tech. The Systems Alliance would win in an all out war, however, as they could split their fleets to a greater extent than the SGC, and the Systems Alliance would only really have to take out Earth to succeed.

    • @Cyberwar101
      @Cyberwar101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SGU would win. The mass effect civs basically have modern or near modern tech with a cheat mcguffin. They just have a magic material called element zero that makes all their tech run.
      Compare that to the SG earth - constantly advancing in the face of adversity. Building spaceships without magic metals. Guns that keep working... Directed energy weapons... Access to essentially a portal to evacuate to countless worlds in the galaxy and beyond. At first the system's alliance would win... But the SG people would surpass them in a matter of years.

    I'm thinkin' Necrons, as their technology can warp the fabric of space, time, and reality, and if their tombworlds were to all awaken then they'd be the most dangerous threat in the entirety of 40K and be able to possible warp all of reality at once

      The Q may be more powerful that the Time Lords, though it is debatable if the Q are a civilization really and not more of a pantheon of gods.
      The Xeelee would most likely stomp them flat though. Near omnipotent and able to travel through time and reality is a pretty good description for them as well.

    • @Joleyn-Joy
      @Joleyn-Joy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@corvididaecorax2991 I think most, if not all of Q's feats could be reproduced by the time lords. And since there's really no explanation for them, I think there isn't enough out there to conclude the Q continuum would beat the time lords.

    Have you watched Stargate SG-1, or any of the Stargate series? The Asgard in that series are very impressive. They show feats of time manipulation and physics manipulation. Another race there would be the Nox. They can make themselves and things invisible. The Tolan are also quite interesting.

    I would definitely swap 3 and 2 because once you delve into the expanded universe of Doctor Who especially the Big Finish audio dramas and the Doctor Who books running in the 90s, you will see just how powerful the Time Lords really are. I would highly recommend the book 'A Brief History of Time Lords' to get are more in-depth look at them as a species. I think this quote really sums up how powerful/capable the Time Lords are: "We will ascend to become creatures of consciousness alone. Free of these bodies, free of time, and cause and effect, while creation itself ceases to be." - Rassilon (President of Gallifrey).
