Yay. Nice. But what would you recommend? I'm using Google's calendar too, because I am missing an alternative. Having synchronisation between literally every device in seconds. Even if you will pay, they are collecting and using your date. Am I wrong?
Once you start scheduling your day with time slots you start to realize that your day is limited and that you can only do so much. This makes your expectations so much more realistic and you can actually feel like you accomplished something at the end of the day, because you did everything you set out to do, instead of checking things of an never ending to-do list.
Some moths ago I tried it, but the problem was that I could never accomplish what I had to do. It took me more time to finish certain tasks and I end up doing almost nothing from what I scheduled.
@@jacklozada3290 hmmm. Sounds like you need to observe exactly how long it takes you to complete your tasks and make your schedule based off of that so it's more realistic.

Same here had a really bad day and started to question nearly everything im fighting before. I wasnt that down ever in the last months. And than there was this video and gave me new motivation.
a few summers ago i did this to keep from falling into a depressive slump like i usually do, and set out a lot of time for writing. i did it all in my bullet journal so i could rearrange the setup for it as i needed to. it was really helpful to stay above water in terms of my mental health, so i wouldn’t just sit and play video games and let myself rot like i did when i was younger. now that i’m in college i’ve been thinking about switching back over because i have two majors and a minor which makes me quite busy while i’m trying to keep up on my writing. and it’s really satisfying to see what you did when you look back later!

Google Calendar is the best thing ever! This is my second year using it for scheduling everything, it makes you aware of how your days are spent, keeping track of everything, organization etc. But most importantly (at least for me) it helped tremendously with reducing stress and anxiety, feeling satisfied, aware and in control of my life. FEW TIPS: DON'T FALL IN THE TRAP OF LETTING THE CALENDAR CONTROLS YOU INSTEAD OF THE OPPOSITE ! If something was delayed or did not happen, just reschedule and reorganize, simple AND LEAVE AT LEAST ONE DAY "SCHEDULE FREE" that is sooo important.
I feel like if some people did this, they'd overthink it and end up not getting anything good out of it for fear of failure. However, thank you for this video! It's always great to see your own experience and perspective.
This is what I was going to say. It would be easy to get obsessive about it and end up feeling guilty for your micro time use. It also takes time to do!
I’ve met some who do freak about having their time this structured, but then will spend a whole day on Netflix & YT. If you work in an office job with deadlines, I really recommend using your calendar, especially in Outlook. I open Outlook each day and the calendar lists my agenda, really reduces the stress & decision fatigue.
I started tracking like this after my daughter was born and it was such a massive help to manage my expectations of what I could get done each week. Without time blocking I would've felt like a failure but this let me see just how much I was actually accomplishing every day.
So, I just watched one of your videos about the 12 Habits. It got me to subscribe and I started watching this one! My God!? Love that there's already two-dozen comments when the video has been up for less time than its play length...
To everyone planning to track the routine: I suggest you IFTTT with some applets (like button click, to calendar or notes) to help you reduce the time you'll eventually spend on adding events. Pretty simple to understand, you select a service to start an action and another service where the action is "stored" in another service. Could be interesting a video like _"how IFTTT saved me a lot of time"_ or something like it. I've been using it for 2 years or more.
I’d never make fun of somebody who’s exact with their calendar. Time is a resource like money, and a good organized calendar can improve your time management so much more! I also have an event for sleeping lol. Ps love your videos, keep going! Greetings from Germany 😊🙌🏻

Farout, the ways you produce your videos are just getting better and better Matt! (funnier and more personal too haha) Do you have any ‘hacks’ or tips you learned with google calendar from this that you could share with us?
There are people who are stuck in 9 to 5 jobs and commuting also takes time. The few hours we get we spend it on ourselves and the rest is sleep. Because in this busy lifestyle the best thing I can get is 8 hrs of sleep. So my calendar would typically be: 7 AM : Get up and go to work 9-5 : Work 7 PM - Reach home dinner and time with family and some me time 11PM : Sleep
Hey Matt! I was wondering as a self-employed person, do you treat your weekends any differently? Is there any change in the type or amount of work you do? Love the videos! Can't wait for the doc
I’ve had the same experience through bullet journaling. I used the first fifteen minutes of every work day just planning and prioritising tasks, and the last five to migrate un finished work to next day’s to do’s. I can’t remember why I stopped, might have been summer vacation and less need for structured days of study time. I regret that now. Should start again 😂
I started doing this a couple of years ago when I was trying to study efficiently for IB and I've been doing it since with only a few breaks in-between. I find that it helps tremendously to see just how much time you waste in a day and when/why you're wasting it, as well as giving you a good overview of what to prepare for when you plan ahead. Scheduling downtime, like watching movies or even lunch, can help a lot as well, so that you don't end up feeling bad about having tons of empty spaces in your calendar.
Bro You don't imagine how much impact you have done to me. I live in Mexico, a place where you can be very distracted. I'm a developer, and since I choose to be a minimalist Ive seen so much progress in my life and kept on track with my life goals.
I went freelance Sept 2018 and blocking out all of my time has really helped me be accountable for where my time is going and it made me very aware of where I was wasting time previously. It even helped me change from saying "I don't have time for that" to "I don't want to prioritize that right now." It helped me see that even though I might have time, or I could make time, it helped me feel in control of the choice instead of "being a victim to time ticking away." It helped me feel more responsible for my life, for my attention, for my behavior, and the way that I operate. Thanks for sharing your experience as well. Grateful for ya, Matt
I heard on Twitter that it was better to keep a "Done" list than a "To do" list, because reviewing the first makes you feel good and inspires you to do more and looking at the second often creates a feeling of overwhelm, or at least anxiety. You know, I tried it, and I really like keeping a "done" list!
@@Jannyl13 Not really. If it's not important enough to make it a point to schedule a specific time for it, it's probably not worth doing at all. For daily habits, I make a specific mark on my calendar to make sure I keep up on it.
Interesting concept! I never schedule things for a specific time because I tend to overestimate how much I can do in a certain time. But after reading your idea, I'm curious to see if I'll find a way to improve my current system by including some kind of "done list"
How do all your videos look so amaizing They are just so clean and the lighting is always perfect and your camera or whatever you use that things quality must be amaizing-

“Just keep trying to do better” - I have “TRY” tattooed on the side of my index finger. Whenever I’ve got my hands in something I see it. Ive missed so many opportunities due to anxiety.
I'm watching this, while in the train from my full time job to my office where I run my private business, asking how many people probably waste their time watching videos like this all day and not being productive at all, instead of watch only a few and take Matt's advices really serious
I’ve tracked my time like this for years as a part of life coaching but really didn’t follow through on it until I stumbled across Amy Landino’s calendar blocking content. It really helps me in all the ways you mention it has helped you. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to go back and see if I can reorganize anything in the way my days function to be able to do more with more sanity and not less.
Have you ever tried moleskin timepage? It’s a fantastic time management app that monitors your minute to minute for you it also tells you how much time you’re spending on each location and how much time will it take you to get to that location in synchrony with your calendar
I need to get more organized with my day to day life this could probably help cause I always feel like have no time to be productive and get things done.
I think this was mentioned, did you stick to your timelines pretty closely? Would you have days like this, for example: eg/ if you got absorbed or in a flow with editing, would you “ignore” or push back the next items in the calendar and keep the momentum? Or would you pretty much stick to the schedule outline? Just curious what happened if you ever got “in the zone”.
I started using Google calendar last month and I was blown away at how much it helped simplify things and alert me to what I was (and wasn't) doing but this video has definitely encouraged me to ramp it up and make the most of this practice. Thanks Matt!

@@Jannyl13 Not really. If it's not important enough to make it a point to schedule a specific time for it, it's probably not worth doing at all. For daily habits, I make a specific mark on my calendar to make sure I keep up on it.
Love!
Interesting concept! I never schedule things for a specific time because I tend to overestimate how much I can do in a certain time. But after reading your idea, I'm curious to see if I'll find a way to improve my current system by including some kind of "done list"
How do all your videos look so amaizing
They are just so clean and the lighting is always perfect and your camera or whatever you use that things quality must be amaizing-
if you tracking your life.... then you know the value of every minute...
You might like the organization tool NOTION. It takes a little bit to get into it but it really pays in the end and it basically also is a searchable database with is great!
“Just keep trying to do better” - I have “TRY” tattooed on the side of my index finger. Whenever I’ve got my hands in something I see it. Ive missed so many opportunities due to anxiety.
I love the quality of your videos, both in terms of content and video quality haha awesome work
I'm watching this, while in the train from my full time job to my office where I run my private business, asking how many people probably waste their time watching videos like this all day and not being productive at all, instead of watch only a few and take Matt's advices really serious
You're talking about me.
I think an interesting challenge you should try is: Polyphasic sleeping for one month
Austin yess
Not a chance lol.
Have you ever tried moleskin timepage? It’s a fantastic time management app that monitors your minute to minute for you it also tells you how much time you’re spending on each location and how much time will it take you to get to that location in synchrony with your calendar
Matt D'Avella it would be the ultimate test. Imagine how many more hours you would have each day! Your productivity could skyrocket
What a great idea
Your videos are so satisfying to watch, thanks!
Matt: I tracked every minute
Also Matt: i didn't track my day down to the every minute
Very aesthetically pleasing video, well done Matt!
Here’s to you Matt, a true inspiration and also my biggest man crush of 2019. Thank you Brother
It's inspirational how you challenge yourself and work on self-improvement so much. Thanks Matt
Totally inspired. Heading to my Google Calendar now.
I started using Google calendar last month and I was blown away at how much it helped simplify things and alert me to what I was (and wasn't) doing but this video has definitely encouraged me to ramp it up and make the most of this practice. Thanks Matt!
Tried this last year for my college classes/homework and would end up going way over my allotted time for one homework every time lol
0:37 Natalie in the back ground thinking“I better not wake up at 5am, such bullshit”
Can we get Nathalie's perspective on the whole life-scheduled-to-the-max thing? 😄
Can't make it up though 😂
I really appreciate you, absolutely amazing filmmaker, great story teller, and overall a nice personality. Oh and those pecs tho.
Nat's video: my husband went crazy for past 3 months tracking everything
Thank you so much, you inspire me for more productivity. One of the best on TH-cam for sure!
I accidentally named a directory on my desktop "Madd D'Avella" ... haha and laught when I noticed I misspelled it.. ure MAD! maaaan testing all these things on yourself so we don't have to!!.. love ur vids! peace and love from Poland, Cheers!
I loved that crispy bokeh shot around the “Edit ‘How to not give a fuck’” in Matt’s calendar
Matt D’Avella uploaded: I counted all of my blinks for 30 days.
Read "Can't hurt me" because of this. Probably the single most important thing this channel gave me, thanks Matt!
TH-cam recommendations finally showing me what those notifications forgot. Thanks TH-cam
I feel like if you're constantly getting behind on work, that you might benefit from scheduling in periods of time for catch up work, either daily or weekly. If you get everything done on time without using catch up time, then you can reward yourself with relaxation.
I’m tracking lots of activities for my PhD - I’ve been looking for a simple and effective tool. Just looked at Google calendar and it’s exactly what I need... great vid Matt thanks for the tips and tricks.
we often overestimate what we can do for a day and we underestimate what we can do in a lifetime.
Another great video Matt! Always inspiring me to up my own video quality. #inspired
I found that my gym time takes at least 1 hour more and totally disorganizes my day if I take it during the day. So i'm training at the morning or at night, after i finished working. Didn't need the google calendar for this :)
*_I tried no procrastinating_* for a few months and I was on the verge of *_Burn Out_*
Life Progress - a channel for introverts same
Doubt you'll see this Matt, but thank you for your videos. They are inspiring to me as a filmmaker and also encouraging for me to be productive with my life each day. Keep it up, man!
