Now that's something I've never heard before. We moved to Catlettsburg Kentucky when I was still a kid. My grandma didn't mention about Harman being in C-Bug. Thanks for that information gentleman. I will pass that along to my family. I'm not even halfway through your story and already learning more about my kin. Thank you.

I'm born and raised in Eastern Kentucky. I grew up in and around pike county. Went swimming in the river many times. My grandmother was kin to the McCoy family. All my life I was told stories about the feud. Like I told Grandma nobody really knows everything that happened cause their all gone. But what we do know that Old man Randall I think lost more than anyone in that feud. Yes 3 of his son's killed a Hatfield. They should have been taken to jail not tied to trees and murdered themselves. I've always heard that they shot Bud with a shotgun that took his head off. And left them there. On new years morning The McCoy family was attacked by so many Hatfield's. 2 more of Randall's kids get killed and his wife was beat so bad she was never the same. Rosanna's baby dies with her not far behind. I always wondered what Randall could have done to have so much pain in his life. But even that wasn't enough for this man. After losing everyone and everything in his life he burns to death. Nobody deserves that much pain. Both families lost so much and for what? When I go to other places and folk's hear I'm from Kentucky they always ask about the feud and what I know. Everyone has heard about this feud one way or another. I still walk the trail from time to time and hope they all have finally found peace.

We’re glad you liked the story. We tried to get as many versions of the story in there that we could and, yes, Randall was the one who suffered the most heartache and loss in the feud.

Thanx for sharing the variations of the stories on each character, place, or story. And the When, where, Why, & How of each one. I've read every book and poured over the photos, then i discovered Google. My idea: Perspective in that time & place, to see how the locals societies functioned, or not.

The movie Deliverance sets the tone in a lot of brain dead minds in the North still. Michigan here. I knew a gal from the South with an sweet southern accent who was bartending at a place in Grand Rapids. 2 other gals as customers were making fun of the accent, and brought up that movie name as an insult. This media, hollywood, politics and even education now,---has us in pens "groups" full of us roosters, ready to bet on a national cock fight. I would rather respect each other individual liberty, and be civil.

My Grandmother was Sara Delphia Hansford. Her Father was a doctor in Gorman County, West Virginia. He was born in 1828 and was murdered by my Great Aunt Ida's then boyfriend in 1901. Great Aunt Ida married Henry Bradford (as in Mayflower), who was a member of the State Department, pretty high up. My Grandmother (born in 1890) was briefly a teacher, then went to College in southern Ohio on her way to Chicago, where she finished her degree. All of Grandmother's siblings were high achievers who did much to grow this nation. So much for West Virginians being dumb. BTW, Buddy Ebsen refused to play Jed as a dumb character. He insisted that the character be written to be intelligent. "Dumb Doras" and "Dumb Donalds", though, were popular at the time, so Jethro Clampett was born. Remember, though, that "The Beverly Hillbillies" was about a poor country family suddenly becoming rich and moving to the Big City. I would imagine that going from no electricity, plumbing or running water to the big city would be jarring if done all at once. Also, changing your cultural attitudes suddenly might be difficult for an older person. In a lot of ways, I thought Petticoat Junction was the best of the three shows because it accurately portrayed a simple lifestyle in an otherwise real, complex world.

My Mother being a McCoy, from that Bloodline, I call assure you that each side of the Families have a different story, My Grandfather had a story about the Pig, but it has to do with sending a young McCoy Girl out to find some pigs that got out of the Pin, and when she was out in the Woods looking for them when 3 Hatfields raped her, all hell broke out from there... My Mother left me our Leather Bond, McCoy Family Crest Family Genealogy Book... My Grandfather was born in the 1800s, and his name was the last McCoy entered in the book....
Not all McCoy's are from the Feuding Bloodline... 😉👍👍

I want to see somebody do American "Rags To Riches" stories, (no matter what race or sex, to show we all did), and only the ones with proper moral values for business and happy endings, (unless the state ripped them off. Which has happened more often?), starting from the dawn of electricity about 120 or so years ago. We keep saying that the USA is great, at least with us older generations who did agree. It is time we show our population that it was our individual freedom and our free enterprise system that allowed us to be great. Lets show the people who moved to the USA for opportunity, (which means free enterprise participation), and built this place with their work and their brain, trading money instead of blood in 'OUR" free enterprise system. Where are those Hero's!!??? We need to see those HERO's today.
      Doug in Michigan.

"Moral values for business" means no government help, (Vanderbilt rail road for example), and no dirty play (a crime, that is called) against your competition.
Moral business values. Same as ours.
