And than we have people who say a zoo is a prison for animals... This rhino gets a foot massage and takes a nap while the other keepers are scratching his belly.
Some zoos are, this one seems genuinely caring
@@alalmalalGood zoos can teach children and adults about these animals and give them opportunities to meet animals like this that they may not meet in the wild and it can give children something to believe in and love (the children may even become vets, zookeepers, animal physiotherapists or behaviourists).
I mean I’ve visited amazing zoos and I loved learning about the animals (I even got to see wolves and Maned wolves (they are from South America).
I also got to see meerkats, white lions, tigers and white tigers and some extinct animals (extinct in the wild) and I absolutely love animals and I work with animals now (at a college place).
Bad zoos are disgusting and should be put out of business but good zoos and safaris should not be (or nature reserves as some places call themselves).
It just shows how well his keepers take care of him. He trusts them and knows that they are looking out for him. Praise for Mogo Zoo and their keepers.

Chris is worried about his hand being crused by a sudden movement, meanwhile you have the two zookeepers inside the pen with Jabari, one swift kick and they are pancake at the other side of the pen.

Dr. Chris was concerned at first about the rhino being awake during the examine I would too if the rhino was in pain and someone touch his foot he would have got mad and charged at someone. That lady was smiling cause she purposely did that but I'm glad everything went well. Plus the rhino was so adorable♥

Really cool video...just not sure about the subtle sexism shown by Chris and the narrator. Narrator makes it seem like Dr. Sam is somehow lacking in skills that requires an outside vet and can't be arsed to address Sam as Dr. Sam (my apologies for not hearing Dr. Sam's last name or I'd have typed her whole name). Chris looked liked he actually bristled at Dr. Sam's statement that no anesthesia would be used on Jabari and I'm glad she stood her ground when Chris subtly suggested that tranqing Jabari would be quicker. Most reputable zoo staff,especially the veterinary staff,know their animals very
well and use the techniques that provide the greatest comfort to their patient while remaining safe. It takes incredible amounts of time,treats,
and trust between vet crew,
keepers,and the animals to perform procedures like Chris helped in. I'm glad he came around when they demonstrated their technique and Jabari was the best patient and heeded their instructions when initially he laid the wrong way. Hopefully folks won't be so quick to just outright scoff at a technique not commonly seen and actually give full credit to the women vets who have to work so much harder and put up with having their qualifications and innovative techniques dismissed cuz they aren't considered mainstream. Feel free to throw shade all ya want but what I saw in this video literally happens to so many women in veterinary medicine or basically any jobs in male dominated fields. Full equality hasn't been achieved yet but some strides have been made. Good on ya Dr. Sam for demonstrating a non anesthesia option for Jabari's treatment and good on Chris for being pleasantly surprised and gettin' down and dirty with the treatment. ✌👍

My dream is to take that rhino into a bathroom. Make him lye down on his back with feet up. Clean all his foot by first putting hot water on them, rigorously brushing them, then applying soap and again brushing, removing all dirt in the cracks with pin, then giving all the feet a final wash with bike water spray. The water would be hot. And finally applying wax for the healing process. This is just a dream.

That is in the wild, because poachers hunt them for ivory and so the populations are decreasing.
Black rhinos are almost extinct in the wild and only a few are found in captivity and breeding programs are taking place around the world to help replenish the populations.
