7:30 this right here is the reason why you should get the talent to see enemy hp bars, you'll see every animal in the game before they even know you are there
Careful an easy nerf to that would be making it so you only see the health bars of things you have already hurt. Kind of surprised that isn't a thing already because it makes the perks to outline creatures less attractive.
@@LordRazer3 Not really. I shoot at HP bars all the time and rarely do anything other than scare the creature away. With the outline I can one-shot them in the brush at will. I have the full outline on my solo toon and just the HP bar on my group toon so it's easy to compare.
@@stanleyclark923 I said less attractive, Not useless. Take me I would rather spend the 3 points elsewhere and wait for the creature to come into view. I've survived well enough with my game skipping all the time (still trying to fix that) so simply knowing there's anything there to begin with would make it all the more easier. If I could play with others maybe I'd take the continent perks as I'm stuck solo the points are better spent elsewhere
I feel the pistol is best used as a backup weapon you can pull out to snap off a quick shot in an emergency. I don't think it's intended as a primary weapon.
I'd rather spend to few extra mats for the shotty as a better backup if I was going to use a gun rather than backup with a bow. I use my bow primarily though and back that up with the rifle.
If you go solo into Arctic biom with Polars , you always go Rifle - Shotgun. There is only one case where you actually can skip the shotgun - you have resources and patience to go for tier 4 and get a Hunting rifle. The 6-shooter is enough to deal with bears. If you run single shot rifle - you need a shotgun , cause bears may survive 4 shots and usually if they do - they are at close combat. If you play as a duo - single shot rifles are OK , but still , better get a shotgun , even with 20 shells , just in case. But if you go duo you want to get 1 single shot rifle + shotgun for 1 guy and get a 6 shooter for the second. Why? Because this way you save 40 steel = 120 iron = 120 extra bullets. The 6 shooter requires titanium , 200 ores to be exact which is collectable from 4 caves , 3 if you are lucky. Pistol is a bull shit weapon. 1 shot , low damage , same cost for the bullet.
Personally if I go for firearms , I prefer to spend extra 20 min of prep and go for 6 - shooter , just because its more reliable AND you get an extra 120 bullets. Then I skip shotgun , if I'm unlucky on copper , because electronics for the fabricator do not come cheap in copper. But on the other hand , with iron savings and all extra I scrap from caves while collecting titanium , I usually filled with 300-400 shots. Just don't forget to grab your fabricator bench with you and 1-2 titan ingots to repair the gun . 10k durability is a crap , gun will last for 100 bullets , so you will need to repair it at some point
Nah, I think you're spot on. Shotty is the "melee cudgel" of the firearms and the rifle is the "ballistic lawn dart". Shotty, unless you're aiming completely off target or are too far away, you're going to punch something in the face with that buck shot. The rifle is going to do a lot of damage to something that isn't right next to you (ideally) and just to that 1 thing. The only thing I can think of for the pistol is that it was intended for small game, which a knife; bow & arrow; spear; or your fists will do the same job adequately, or it's supposed to be your "backup" to the rifle in case things get close. Only problem is is that it's such a piss-poor performer that the shotty is the better backup. The only thing, THE ONLY THING, (I'll say that twice) I can really think of that they probably didn't really implement all that well is that the pistol was supposed to be the better alternative for the rifle in caves. However caves aren't that difficult and if you're going CQC, the Shotty club works better. By not making the pistol have a magazine or a cylinder, they've crippled it to being an under-powered rifle in the exact same class as the standard bolt action rifle. I went for shotty first because it's cheaper on steel and copper is easier to find (supposedly). And then the game started shafting me on copper just about every mission. At least all the nearby caves to where I was spawning and going to. All the out of the way caves have had some.
I'd still just use the bolty over the pistol in this instance since the cost for ammo rifle is the exact same as pistol ammo. Both also only have 1 shot until it needs reloading so, imo pistol is worthless until they give it a small magazine.
I just stay with the bow and arrow. The recurve bow can crit over 1000 aswell. Sometimes even 3000 with the right arrow and that's with 0 points spent into bow talents.
I would Imagine most would prefer a good gun over a bow alas we all need to grind a way with the bow first , Been thinking how to get to guns fast without the need to spend points in bows?
@@MrAranhawk by not spending point's on the bow to begin with. Bows are fine on there own you already can kill most thing's before they get to you and that's coming from a guy that lags. Because I'm solo and the way ore is my points go mostly into metal harvesting guns and a little into solo cus getting 50% more bones is always useful
In general bows. Takes no resources to make and I can take nearly everything on with a basic bow and stone arrows. Guns are of course great but they take some resources to get the guns and a lot of missions don't require that much wasted time.
@@ShabbyDoo Long bow with bone arrows will kill just about anything up to a bison in 1 shot and getting the next tier bow lets you kill wolves without a head shot most of the time. With luck regarding storms you can have a gun by the end of day 2 (pistol is trash) and yes I know lots of missions are rather easy to speed run but that's also why I focused my talents in guns. Missions like payday take bloody forever solo with the stupid amount of gold you need for them and with the hunting rile I can think less and almost run none stop from mine to mine only pausing for polar bears.
Wow, this guy isn't big into "ranged" shots is he? He's no more than 3 seconds away from that polar bear. I prefer a good 10-15 range for that 2nd shot. And honestly, i prefer those "outside the valley" shots with bows. I mean serious distance where it's like a 1 in 10 if you don't raise the bow up enough.

incendiary rounds, i used them on the alpha wolf fight where you had to track it down....it goes in the den while on fire...man that shit helped.
@DontAskWye haha I help when I can
I like that, that's certainly a good shot. That, fire arrows, and poison too
You deserved a like and sub for being shocked by that Polabear. That was quite funny ngl🤣
Greetings from germany ✌
Greetings from the USA! 😁
Sadly, the hunting rifle wasn't tested but thanks a lot for testing out the different ammo types!
Check out the video I did about the bolty vs the hunting rifle! It's quite the grind for that bad boy..

Sure does!
@@ShabbyDoo Yeah, That bow mechanic in Icarus is the BEST I've seen so far. Played so many games and this bow in icarus feels just amazingly good.
Clever bear was playing dead.
They could have, and should have made the weaker pistol simply more durable + 6 shot before long reload.
do you prefer bows or guns ?

Build a little black Smith outside the nearest to cave and you should be able to grind it out.

I did as well, the further the better! However for this video I wanted to make sure the damage numbers we obvious so we got a bit closer ;)
You only get 40 talent points max
*48 talent points is max
Yes 48 cause you get some bonus points too
