Hauntingly beautiful… may the great A. Nicolet rest in peace.

Apparently this guy is family to me. I've never heard his music before and this is definitely not my type of music, but it's brilliant and beautiful and emotional.

I'm a music junkie, but I've not talent for music at all. I wish.

Your last name is Reinecke but doesn't mean it is your family unless you are sure. If it is then that's cool.

I have no idea about this comment, but I did visited Carl's great great great great grand son and his daughter in Leipzig. And had an fantastic experience in learning about him.

We can be grateful to Reinecke to have set up a romantic repertoire for the flute. Otherwise, what could be found? Variations of Schibert, sonatinas and one beaautiful trio of Weber, and I think that is all .....This concerto is more than welcome in the musical romantic landscape. Reinecke had aleady given the "Undine" sonata for flute and piano in E minor. Later on, we have a concerto by Nielsen, but it is hard to assimilate him to romantism.

Cecile Chaminade's Concertino for flute - but a bit harder...

The lack of repertoire is definitely a problem for us wind players. After the classical era, composers wrote few things other than piano and violin concertos, with the occasional cello concerto. And it's picked back up since the romantic era, but nobody appreciates those works enough.

You are a bit confused my friend.
      Saint-Saens: Romance, Odelette, Tarantelle, Voliere.
      Chaminade: Concertino.
      Chopin: Variations.
Fauré: Fantasie, Morceau de concours, sicilliene, pavane.
Franz Doppler: Fantaisie pastorale hongroise, Airs Valaques and many many more
Boehm: Grand Polonaise, Nel cor piu non mi siento, 24 caprice-etudes and many many more
      Taffanel: so much repertoire...
Gaubert: sonatas, romance, fantasia, and many many more.
      Even Beethoven: Serenade, sonata, variations.

Danke für die schöne Sendung! Die Opus Nummer sollte "283" nicht "238" sein:

This concerto is actually Op. 283, not 238. Looks like you switched the numbers around.

If you click on the tab "show more" you will see Aurele Nicolet. And if you pay attention to the video you see his name in the beginning of the video.

I think Nicolet really struggled to put out sound. Just sound and vibrato, I wished there was even more substance...Legendary player regardless.
