A violist friend of mine said it's the most difficult piece he ever played. It's doable. We're about to play the Copland Clarinet Concerto, and that piece has a passage that is simply impossible.
Yeah, that was unexpected! I think the soloist counted the 2nd to last bar straight in time, while the conductor did a very slight rallentando, and probably they weren't watching each other, and maybe they didn't reheased it that way? I don't know, anyway it's just funny, the rest is really good quality.
1st Oboe miscounts their solo after figure 30 in movement 2 (8:48). Probably realised when the rest of the orchestra hits the fabulous Appassionata at figure 31.
Good ear 😊 Started music studies again after a long time and still trying to get accustomed to following with the score and identifying any imperfections across all instruments. Attended a concert last night (Sibelius Symphony #2), and the conductor stopped the piece (shortly into the first movement) and started over again, citing an error. I didn't have a score and would like to know why they couldn't move through it. Nothing wrong with identifying imperfections. It's all part of musical performance. Your comment encourages me to listen all the more carefully... conductors listen on this level after all. **No one shamed the oboist. Many folks love hearing imperfections captured. It makes the performance unique.
Ibert's best piece, IMHO. At any rate, a real masterpiece. I've loved it since I was a kid in the early '50s.
I like how the screen went blackened when the first movement ends with a fortissimo
Thanks for putting up along with the score
This also happens in the third movement!

The best recording of the piece I could find.
Bravo. Astonishing flute playing. Perfection.
A seriously cool piece!
Thanks for this!
Wonderful piece! Really love this one. If only they were all together on that last measure... 😂 Still a great recording.
