  • Jeff and Jason are back. This time, they're talking about the new system for creating unique and detailed family histories. Get RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha here - www.chaosium.c...
This is the fifth video in a series from Chaosium Creative Director Jeff Richard and RuneQuest Line Editor Jason Durall, exploring the new edition of RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha.
RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha is an all-new edition of one of the world’s most influential and acclaimed fantasy roleplaying games. First appearing almost 40 years ago, RuneQuest is as dynamic and vital as ever. This all-new, deluxe edition introduces RuneQuest and its setting of Glorantha to new players everywhere.
Players will want this book to create their unique characters, diving into sorcery, picking their cult, or taking up shamanism to converse with mysterious spirits.
Gamemasters need this book, as it contains the core rules for the game, including task resolution, combat, and damage, as well as guidelines for special situations in combat, such as formations and chariots. These core rules are designed to be used in conjunction with the upcoming Glorantha Bestiary and the RuneQuest Gamemaster Pack and Screen.

I like this. It sounds like the background of a character is that interesting for the game master to develop good ideas for the actual game.

lunar tarsh is the only choice that puts your parents/GP in different sides of a conflict. Otherwise the others (esrolia, startar, grazelanders, old tarsh, prax) are usually all on the same side. At least at a glance imho

It doesn't say anything about creating a character from other than the starter zone few. What about other Homelands?

i would love (and i will probably do it myself) an "historic tree" that depicts what happened BESIDE the grandparent/parent timeline, because at the moment the one presented in the game fix your toon to be 21 in 1625, a thing i dont like it too much. It's too fixed.

Exactly my sentiments too. But they DO say in the rules that you can roll for happenings in the years that your nation is NOT mentioned on the year for certain happenings. So that takes care of some of this "alternate" happenings". And as a more experienced GM you can also go crazy and add stuff out of your head, if you've read up on the backgrounds of Glorantha.

A little late in the games here... The game is great but character creation is sometimes vague. Make a QUICK character creation sequence and CLARIFY the choices. Show the steps NOT so much WHY you made the choices - just show the PROCESS.
