  • The Springfield Prodigy has seemingly provided quality and value in a double stack 9mm 1911. But, is that really the case?

    Blows my mind how many people have opinions and suggestions as to what the issues are with the prodigy that have no basic mechanical understanding let alone any gun smithing experience.
    I work on Prodigies pretty regularly.
    While I think it’s the best bang for buck 2011 it still needs work.
    I 100% believe it is a better gun than the Girsan and Tisas guns including the MAC9 DS.
    I have seen several with tight/undersized chambers, timing problems, bent firing pins, safeties falling out..
    the mags are not “staccato” mags. They are Dura mags. Staccato uses checkmate.

    • @PnP-td1mt
      @PnP-td1mt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Ignore anyone that tells you these need an angled cut on the slide (marvel cut) to clear disconnecter.
      There is excess cerakote in the disconnecter hole in the frame. The center leaf is to “tight” and needs backed off.
      The early 5” has to much mass in the slide. The 4.25” needs to have a #13 recoil spring.

    • @FitnFire
      @FitnFire  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The magazines are manufactured by different companies, yes; however, they are the same spec. Meaning, you can use staccato mags in the prodigy. That is the point

      100% agree. Mine is amazing but I did have it tuned and with marvel cut and 90% of the internals swapped with egw. I did also have the Lucky 7 porting done. It's awesome now

    After about 300 rounds I ran into some of the same issues but I was also getting weak extractions. I sent mine back to SA and had them do a warranty repair. They did the following
    REAMED CHAMBER
    RECUT & POLISHED BARREL RAMP
    POLISHED CHAMBER
    REFIT BARREL
    TUNED EXTRACTOR
    Now it runs perfectly. Don’t be afraid to send this gun back if you’re having issues.

    I oiled and manually worked the slide on the couch watching tv. I worked it a thousand times. The finish was coming off like sticky sludge where the upper and lower mated up. It started “slowing down every 250 rounds or so so I would stop clean it and re oil. I have now put 1200 standard 124 grain rounds through it without a single malfunction. I believe the coating is not buffed out adequately at the factory and until the parts mate it causes the majority of issues people are encountering with this platform.

    Just got mine a month ago and put 800 rounds through it and I love it! The slide was sluggish out of the box I cleaned it, racked it and repeated! It's so much smoother now, I think people on the internet gave this gun a bad rep expecting it to run flawless out of the box when they should clean and oil it first! Great accuracy and much less recoil felt with this gun

      These are our findings as well ! We only have 200 more rds to go until we post our review. Out of the box we broke it down, greased it up, and she's ran like a stallion ever since. 😍

    That's how mine was. During the first 200 rounds, it would fail to go completely into battery. I'm at around 1k rounds now, and the last 800 have been perfect.

    We have 200 more rds to reach a thousand, then we can do our own review. We haven't had a single issue other than the 20 rd magazine not locking the slide back, but I found an easy fix for that, which will covered in the video.

    I don't know if it's a Springfield thing or a 1911 thing. But a long time ago i had their TRP Operator in 45acp. It took about 400 rounds then that thing ran great. I do regret selling that thing to this day

    XDS no idea. My old XD still works fine.
    The company has done some shady anti-gun law stuff in the past.
    They import &/or work with another country for some guns, so what?
    Sig, H&K and a dozen others are foreign companies.
    That they market themselves, or seem to to me, as the same Old Springfield Armory, I'm mixed about.
    Good marketing?
    Deceptive?

    SA is hit or miss for most people. Oddly enough, I do love my XDM Elite OSP. It is a major tack driver and has a phenomenal trigger. I did put Talon Grips on it, though, as the factory grip texture and appearance is kinda meh. I'm on the fence about the Prodigy still. Seriously considering OA Defense 2311 when the pro version with ports comes out vs a Platypus or Sig 226 Xfive Legion. Tough choices...

    I bought one and the thumb safety fell off before I fired a single shot. Customer service was great, sent it to them and got in back inside of three weeks. The thumb safety issue makes me doubt the durability and longevity of every other component in the gun. Had I known what I know now, I would wait a month and get a better "out-of-the-box 2011.
