huge respect to both of you for taking the dog with you on this great journey, thanks for the review i was looking for some one who has a larger breed dog. I hope they will make another version for large dogs like a doberman or even a dane
I live in a bike heavy town and I want to take my dog around. Thank you for this review it helps me so much! I did rent this model and he sat it in it well.
Hi there, thanks for your lovely review. Concerning the lack of any suspension on the trailer I would suggest that you mount wider tires. Contrarily to what people believe, they have LESS rolling resistance than narrower tires; on rougher terrain they allow you to ride with lower air pressure, which gives then better traction and more comfort because of the bigger amount of air and lower pressure. By the way: for their cargo trailer the Coho XC, Burley offers the option of really fat off-road tires (but the Coho also has suspension), although I don't think they fit the Tailwagon. But you can just mount wider tires on the given wheels (I think the tire should not have more than double the width of the inner width of the rim). Safe travels...
Great videos! I have been taking my 6 month old Jindo (90cm, 17kg) on a trailer and had similar issues that you had. There aren't big enough pet trailer for big dogs. Still, Burley makes the best trailer for pet and luggage. Continue your great journey with your lovely dog! Thank you for the video!
Amazing, thanks for this review! This has really helped me to know how to progress with my dog/road trip! Im considering the Burley as part of an emtb road trip. Thanks.
What an amazing journey! Thanks for sharing your experience bringing along Misha and the Burley Trail Wagon. It’s because of reviews such as yours that I decided to buy the Tail Wagon instead of another trailer. Good luck on your future endeavors and please keep us posted along or after your journey.
Great review! I watched it all because I'm considering a different Burley model. I don't even have a dog. Regarding the tire life; keep in mind the 16" wheels have a circumference of ~50" where your bike tires are ~88" around. So the smaller tires make nearly twice as many turns over the same distance. No doubt Burley doesn't splurge on the OEM tires, but even high quality 16" tires will wear out faster than your road bike tires.
Thank you, that is a great point. We had no issue with how long the tires lasted. We just wanted people to know that was the only thing that needed replacement in 3000 miles. We couldn't have been happier with the trailer!
My 75-pound mixed breed, Skeeter, and I are inseparable and our daily three-mile round trip walk is just beginning to take a toll on my body that almost matches in age that of Skeeter's weight, so we're going electric. My hope is that he'll just run along side with me, but he has a habit of stopping abruptly when he catches a favorable scent. With the bike, that could be disastrous, so we're watching all the bike trailer videos for inspiration. I'm leaning toward building one using PVC pipe. I've seen some fails that have given me great insight. Thanks so much for lending your FAVORABLE insight. It's been very entertaining. BTW, heading south from Calais, you may have passed through Machias where we worked and shopped for twenty years. If you took the scenic shortcut via Rt. 1A, you would have crossed the Machias River about 100 yards from our house, behind the firehouse in Whitneyville. Happy touring. 😀
Theres a cool shock for this trailer made by "doggy components" it might be cool feature. Will this hook up to a thru axle? Have you seen any trailer you wish you would purchased now that you have been on the road?
We will have to look into that! This bracket will not work for a thru axel but maybe if you contact Burley they might have something. We have been so happy with this trailer. 5500 miles in and only tires have been replaced. We have been looking at a custom setup on the rear rack lately because we just adopted another dog. But you can't go wrong with this trailer!
loved this video, thanks, my question is are there fenders available for the trailer because on rainy days and road mud will it get to be a mess you showed non rainy weather how did it rides during the rainy times. Thanks again for sharing your video I enjoyed it a lot.
What a cycling road trip! You are both inspirational and thank you so much for all of your tips! I just bought a tail wagon for my 11 year old Aussie ... she has a knee injury and loves her walks and this way I can rehab her (10 minute walk only) and she can enjoy being pushed around like a princess :-). I picked up the single wheel stroll adapter. Question ... where did you purchase the second connector for the bike?
I have question, was it possible to use the tailwagon without the wheels as a crate (bench)? I read the newer model is more flat but I was wondering how it was with this model :)
Yes, which is a great way to train your dog to get used to the trailer. We left ours in the living room with the wheels off and every time Maisha went in it we would reward her with the treat.
Excellent review! Thanks for giving both the pros and cons!! If I use it for my year and a half old puppy I worry it will be hard to keep her from jumping out the rear while riding. Any suggestions?
Thanks we used a harness with a shorter lease attached to the cross bars on top of the trailer. Maybe wrap the lease around the bars a couple more times give the puppy enough slack to lay down and move around a little in the trailer but not enough to step out.
No, we haven't had a need to get a new one. This one has 3600+ miles on it now and is still doing great. I am not sure if there is anything on the market for that large of a trailer.
Is it the Tail Wagon or the Bee for kids? Cuz I can´t find that model at burley's web page. It only shows a dark green one but is slightly different from the one you bought.
@@suits2sandals Thanks for replying! And thanks for sharing. Your video has been very helpful to make a decision. I'll probably incline for the bark ranger, only because of the color LOL.

I'm doing about 45 miles with my dog in the 'Doggyride although I love this brand there is no metioning or on any other webpages from any dog trailers webside what tires they use while I know that they are very important Tires can make the ride for our fured friend so much more comfortable and reduce 'flat tires quite significantly. Just like in the cart I use to ride with my dog (about 35 lbs) the tires do not quite well on gravel, muddy paths etc I can feel the tires slipping away abit while on the bike ( although no flat tires yet) . Is there a brand tire you can recommend for these dog trailers? The wheels I have on the 'Doggyride 'are 20 In..I also like to take on some more touring days in the nearby future om the bike adventures I like taking with her..
The sides are mesh. But on the rainy days we covered Maisha up and put the plastic flaps down on the front and back of the trailer and she stayed fairly dry.
What a great review what a lovely dog well done , I have a one question how was the floor it looks a bit flimsy on the burly website I think you used some bedding as well is that right ? We are now looking to buy two wagons for our dogs one is similar size to yours and one smaller hope long do you think its ok for the dog in the trail is say 1 hour or so OK
It seems like the bottom is flimsy but it isn't. Maisha is 68lbs and we had no issues for 3500 miles so far. We did add a barkbox memory foam mattress for the last tour (ordered for Amazon) just to give her more comfort and she loved it. You can cut it to fit perfectly in the bottom of the trailer.
Not sure, you would have to search and see if you can find something bigger. At the time we purchased ours about three years ago this was the biggest one we could find.
Really not sure. The weight limit is 75 lbs and Maisha is 68lb. I think a dog bigger than that might not have enough room to lay down and be comfortable in it.
Thank you for the awesome, real-world review. Just purchased a Tail Wagon earlier this morning. Now just need to figure out which bike will be the "tow vehicle". My question to you both is how did the bikes ride when the trailer, (and Maisha), were attached? Did you feel the weight to where it was difficult to ride as fast as you would normally without the rig attached?
The bikes rode great with the trailer. We really didn't notice it was back there for the most part except when you were climbing hills and you have to be a little wider on your turns. It probably slowed our pace by about 2 miles per hour if the terrain had rolling hills. If it was flat it really didn't change our speed too much. By the time we were in South Carolina and the rest of the trip we were cruising and you really couldn't tell the trailer was there. It attached to both bikes very well.
It's a little more in price than I can afford. But thanks for sharing. I'm looking for one for my 14 yr old Samoyed. This video answered all my questions. Very well done! Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it is expensive but you should try Facebook Marketplace. I see them pop up there from time to time for about $150 or $200. But it is worth it, your dog will love it!
I was looking at the new 2022 burley trail wagon. But according to burley rep they do not include the safety inner attachments to newer model. They stated due to safety concerns they do not include them . Which I don’t understand. I mean u wouldn’t buy a child bike trailer without harness. Same should be for pets. There just like our kids. So now I am looking for a different trailer.
Will u just LOOK at that face! Don't tell anyone that I'm a sucker for cuties like Misha. That trailer is like a little camper/rolling tent for Misha. My questions are (1) How many pounds (do you supposed), you were putting "on" the bike while pulling the trailer? (2) Which bikes do you have? We aren't tourer (yet) but we are bike commuters, we have a tandem and we haul "heavy". Always been concerned with pulling too heavy for our bikes, just curious what others do. Subscribed, because I mean c'mon! Your video is awesome! Finally! Someone who talks about touring with a trailer.
Wiley's bike was a Masi and he had about 100 lbs. My bike was a Surly Disc trucker and I had about 75 lbs. The trailer was 27 lbs plus 68 lbs. Both bikes towed her.
Thanks a lot for your review. Actually, I have just purchased a burley trailer for kids but I will adapt it to my labrador puppy, hoping he will like to come with me for biking adventures :)
Wow I’ve never heard of anyone biking for that long, you guys are incredible. I started biking only a year ago and im debating if to get a wagon for my 22 pound dog, is it difficult for a beginner biker to carry on a wagon and pass through the narrow paths ? The greenway where i live have a stick often times in the middle to prevent larger vehicles to go in, or i think that’s the reason. Thanks
I think anyone can pull a trailer but the Greenways with the middle posts can definitely make it more difficult. We encountered a lot of those in CT and had to have Maisha get out of the trailer and then lift it.
@@suits2sandals thanks so it is from burley then??? Thanks much for telling about the trailer!! What is it like going up hill pulling your dog???? Also can you talk about the different version from 2023 to older years?? And is there similar good trailer to this brand like the Schwan???
You have convinced me to purchase the Burley Tail Wagon. Contacted them this morning. I’m curious what bikes you are riding? There are so many touring bike options I would love to hear how you made your selections and if you have any regrets. Thanks.
Thank you Russ! Hope you enjoy the trailer as much as we do. My wife rides a Surly Disc Trucker and I ride a Masi Giramondo. We show them and discuss a few details in our gear list video. Check it out.
I'm looking at getting a new one for $200 for my husky, but unfortunately, even within the weight limit, I don't think it is large enough to be comfortable. Unfortunately, I think I need the XL Bark Ranger which is not on sale!
I wish that there was a dog bike trailer made for large breed dogs. We have a 3 year old Husky that weighs about 50 pounds, and a Wooly Coated Husky that weighs about 85 pounds. I guess I am going to have to build our own dog trailer. It would be nice if I could put both dogs into one trailer, so that a bike rider behind the trailer could keep an eye on them. I could see having a two way radio for both bike riders would come in handy. I too feel guilty leaving our puppies home while out adventuring. With a dog bike trailer, we could be gone for days instead of just hours.
Yeah, we definitely had a hard time finding one that exceeded 75lbs. She is 68lbs so we didn't put anything else in her trailer. Good luck with your search.
I'm honestly not sure how much of a difference there is. We were mainly concerned with Maisha's comfort level. We wanted her to have lots of room and see it as her space.
In the UK I had two different children's trailers, a dog trailer, and now I have a luggage trailer. The main difference between child and dog trailers is the flat floor in a dog trailer. Child trailers have a dip where their feet go.
2 things I would ask a veterinarian about before doing this with my dog. #1 Especially a senior dog I think running along beside on asphalt seems it would be really hard on those pads and especially joints. #2 Speak with a vet regarding eyesight of the dog. I read somewhere that letting dogs spend a lot of time with their heads out the car window can cause dogs to get serious eye problems. Oh one good news bit here.. There is a suspension you can buy that fits this trailer. The video with info is a TH-cam site called Dog gone motorhome adventures.
The rear tyre can also throw up stones, mud, rainwater and other dangerous stuff. So it's surprising that the designers of these pet trailers even provide a forward facing flap.
I question where the flaps open in the best ways. Would a dog really want to look out the front of the trailer onto your rear wheel? I don’t think so. Or be looking out the rear of the trailer while it is moving forward? Every time your dog was looking out the rear, she was really trying to look to the side to see where you all were going, and definitely not just looking backwards. Think about how a dog travels in a car. In my experience they’re either sitting in the front seat, looking forward over the hood through the windshield, or they’re sitting in the back seat hanging out through a side window. Either way, they’re looking at what’s coming, not what’s going. IMO there should be an opening at the top of the trailer so the dog can sit up and poke their head through to be able to see in every direction, and there also should be openings at the side so, again, they can poke their head through and see forward. I just bought one of these based on how light weight and well made they are, but I am definitely going to try to modify the canopy to give my dog a better experience.
holy shit . just came back with my dog and the trailer omg the trailer sucks ass and i had a flat tyre and could not repair it. just did 60km in belgium flanders with a grandmabike in 4hours with here and there a little break . so dead right now going to wash me and go to sleep xd . and it was in height 190meters up and down. but my dogg was happy tho so so am i
Wow, I am so surprised. We have put over 5,500 miles on ours and only have had to replace tires over the four years we have had it. Hope you have better luck on your next ride. 🐾🚲
The Burley Bark Ranger XL has a weight limit of 100lbs but it’s quite expensive at $699. However, I’ve done a lot of reviews for months of all of the tailors available and have decided to purchase a Burley Trail Wagon, the older model with the yellow/black cover. The reason was the possibility to also use it as a stroller, something the new model (green) doesn’t have anymore. I also was able to find the previous model on sale for $299 instead of $399. My guess is that Burley decided to omit the stroller capability for the Tail wagon now that they offer the Bark Ranger (up to 75 lbs) and Bark Ranger XL (up to 100 lbs) with the ability to be both a bike trailer and stroller.
I have a 14 year old Anatolian Shepherd Pyrenees mix, she is a 95 lb runt. Will be putting a bottom in the XL bark ranger for a West Coast ride soon. On sale now

Well done great couple
Thank you!
Can you use it with a 49cc scooter ?
Not sure if it would work
Thanks a lot for your review. Actually, I have just purchased a burley trailer for kids but I will adapt it to my labrador puppy, hoping he will like to come with me for biking adventures :)
Good luck 🤞
Great review thanks.
I've been riding with Barker in tailwaggon for a decade
What tire did you use??????
The tires that came with it for the first 1000 miles then we upgraded to a 16 inch all terrain tire
To be fair they do offer upgraded wheels with chunkier wheels. A relatively pricey upgrade though.
Totally, the great thing about the 18" tires is that they are really easy to find anywhere. We have 5500 miles on the trailer now and still love it.
I'm looking at getting a new one for $200 for my husky, but unfortunately, even within the weight limit, I don't think it is large enough to be comfortable. Unfortunately, I think I need the XL Bark Ranger which is not on sale!
Your husky must be really big! Good luck with finding a trailer.
Thanks for the video!
That Maisha is one lucky dog!
missed opportunity, i came to the details of ur video to find the link to buy product
We're not sponsored, just enjoy the product
Accidentally bought this for my child. New to biking but I like it. Will I be frowned upon if I just throw my kid in there?
Hopefully you can return it!
Muito obrigado. Muito úteis suas informações!
De nada
Just curious, why didn't you think of using a kid's trailer? Is there really a difference?
Totally agree, with a senior dog you should ask the vet.
The rear tyre can also throw up stones, mud, rainwater and other dangerous stuff. So it's surprising that the designers of these pet trailers even provide a forward facing flap.
Very informal
Nice sweatshirt dude.
Good video, nice trailer but the most expensive one I have seen
It really is a great trailer. We have had it for 4 years now and have put over 5,500 miles on it. It was worth the money for us.
there is brand called Doggyhut X Large Ebike Trailer just for dogs
È molto interessante, quanto costa?
Awesome utube thanks
holy shit . just came back with my dog and the trailer omg the trailer sucks ass and i had a flat tyre and could not repair it. just did 60km in belgium flanders with a grandmabike in 4hours with here and there a little break . so dead right now going to wash me and go to sleep xd . and it was in height 190meters up and down. but my dogg was happy tho so so am i
Wow, I am so surprised. We have put over 5,500 miles on ours and only have had to replace tires over the four years we have had it. Hope you have better luck on your next ride. 🐾🚲
Just found out suspension can be fitted to the Tail Wagon: watch :

I need a donation cargo carrier for our dog, please...
There are better trailers for large dogs .
Cool, this one worked perfectly for us!
Any suggestions for an even larger dog? I have an Anatolian Shepard, she’s right at 100 pounds. Her body length from shoulder to butt is 36 inches.
We didn't come across anything bigger than for a 75lb dog.
On sale now
