This episode showed how well this series is able to flesh out a lot of new characters in a short amount of time for the mage exam arc. It was nice to take a small break from the test itself to see them as people outside of taking the exam.
5:40 - I remember on the first episode reaction for Frieren, people said they knew Alana would be a big Himmel fan and now we see her even asking for Himmel flashbacks. 😄
Hey Ms. Misako. I just wanted to pass a thanks and good job. I've watched a few reactions of Frieren as I find I miss the show. This is my first anime that I've turned into a total fanguy for. Your cut of the anime has consistently offered me a few different scenes every episode that casts a lil light on a line or phrase that I didn't previously catch as a significant detail. Your empathetic nature and keen eye have given me a few insights. Thanks again for your work. Here's to hoping for a season 2!
i think this is my favorite ep. expected a fillery nothing after the highs of ep21 but instead i laughed and got my heart broken again by himmel. 5 stars would recommend to anyone.
I have three big ships in this show. First of course is Frieren and Himmel - hopeless I know. Second is Stern - Stark and Fern. But third, tsundere as they are, is Kanne and Lawine. I can't help but think one of these days they'll get things sorted out between them and we'll be hard put to find a more beautiful couple after that. And yeah Denken is playing the grandpa role. Oh yeah, Sense is a pacifist, but in an older manner. Modern pacifism is rejection of all violence, but there's an older approach where it's the rejection of pointless violence. Sense falls into the latter category, refusing to force the candidates to fight one another, but allowing - even encouraging - combat against environmental factors.
It's funny that Alana was worried about Frieren not being able to pass these tests, but if you think about it, Frieren is probably more powerful than any of the mage proctors (with the exception of Serie, perhaps). Therefore Frieren can beat any exam that these worthless, so-called 1st Class Mages can throw at her. Only thing she can't pass is Serie's prejudiced scrutiny.
Two points I wanted to add here, 1. Sense really is a pacifist, you will understand after you see what her test is like. 2. That four eyed guy, his power is so so much more than what he is showing. I am pretty sure you will be pleasantly surprised as well, once you find out what that is in the next to next episode, I think.
Frieren and Stark dynamic is so underrated, they are like little brother and older sister just figuring what to do when their mom's angry
Keeping Fern happy is way harder than these exams and killing demons.

Little detail I absolutely loved is Frieren recommending the omurice to Stark (5:16), which was what Himmel had in the flashback
