- After a few months not being able to go into my shed to use my wood lathe it was time to reunite myself with my shed. A few months ago I needed an emergency operation on my spine. After collapsing at home and not being able to walk due to having a condition called cauda equine syndrome. I’m now recovering with a degree of weakness in my left leg. I’m at last strong enough to be able to use my lathe for short periods of time.
During this period of uncertainty I had a birthday and used my money to bye more bit for my lathe. One of the things I enjoy is turning pens but never had a pen press until now.
In this video I will show a few items I got including my new Axminster deluxe pen press. I use Axminster to bye most of my wood turning tools along with pen kits and more. I’m not sponsored be Axminster but as a new wood turner I enjoy their TH-cam videos which help me with my turning and aid with so decision on the type of easy items I can start to turn.
Hope you enjoy this video and here’s a link to Axminster’s web site.

Get yourself a nice shiny catalog and dream way with all the tools and bits you will need for a happy turning hobby.
Happy turning
This guy could be me, absent the English accent. And I thought I had the smallest free-standing shop on TH-cam... I loved this video. Substitute coffee for the tea, and this is exactly where I am in my pen-making endeavor. Reassuring to know that I'm not the complete idiot that I thought I was.
Hi Marc, I’m glad you enjoyed this video. I’ve only been turning since the beginning of the year so I have a lot to learn. Tea is far more superior to coffee 😁
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.
$145 USD!!! Gimme a break!
Morning, I got my pen press over a year ago in the uk for around £80. Prices have increased so much in that time. It depends on how much you use it. I make pens and light pull’s all the time, so a good investment for me. Thank you for your comment. There are cheaper alternatives on the market but not with the same build quality.
I bought mine in the U.S. for @ $110 . Yes it costs quite a bit . I enjoy this press very much.
@@mikewallace8087 what store did you purchase from?
A very genuine honest video. I do grasp that vices are a bit rough & ready & with a lot of power very quickly. To be honest I just use my lathe as a press. Headstock, tailstock, turn yourself a couple of wooden arbours & you will have a fine a press as can be found. Its the free option because you make your two ends of scrap. The item you discuss is a top end price. When it comes to disassembly ...... just never screw up. Hope you keep going forward healthwise.
Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it. I tried using my lathe as a press, it wasn’t working for me and I always make mistakes from time to time. Health wise I’m doing very well thank you.
Thank you so mutch for this video Sir.
I picked up my Axminster Deluxe Pen PRess from the postoffice today si i am happy i find your video about it here. :)
I have a bunch of pens that i put together just like you have done i guess, wrong things in wrond end of the tubes. Hopefully i can recover all those wrong made pens i got here.
Greetings from Norway to you.
Hi Hans, thank you so much for your kind comment. The Axminster pen press is fantastic and yes I too have recovered my pen mistakes. I’m glad you like the video. Happy turning my friend.
That is a nice tidy shop you have. In my opinion lathe work is place that you have good control of procedures without having to move about a great deal. Enjoy yourself. A fellow human being from Wisconsin.
Thank you, Mike for your comment. My shed is 8’x10’ and it’s a little bit small for what I do in it, but it’s my space and I love it.
A very good video, thanks
Thank you for your kind comment.
