Jr Majestic is one of my favorite pens. I just wish I could afford to make more of them! The pen looks beautiful. I have some elm burl. Now I feel like turning some of it into pens. :)
Stunning pen Nathan, beautiful wood! I came across your video searching for deluxe pen press as I have just received one and want to learn how to use it properly. I am very new to pen turning and will certainly now try a Majestic kit. Can I ask, what oil did you use before the CA? Keep up the good work and keep sharing.
Nathan, I was really interested in the non-glossy finish of your pen. It appeared that you just sanded, then applied the Micro-Mesh, but did not apply any kind of other finish or polish. Is that correct? Frankly, the way that pen looked, it appears more like a real cigar (that's a compliment) than something that's all shiny. Congratulations!
thank you for your comment Larry. I sanded up to 600 grit and then oiled. I then added a few coats of CA which I them micro-meshed to refine the surface. I wasn't completely happy wish it so I roughed it back slightly without removing the CA altogether and then added a wax polish. I much prefer a more natural look to the over polished gloss finish that looks like plastic. In my experience the wax holds up fairly well although some would say that CA is the superior finish. I think its better left as an adhesive.
Great job Nathan.Love to send you some pistachio wood blanks (and those nuts also) but haven't been able to connect with you yet.I'll leave the ball in your court and see if you can contact me.Harvest is underway and going well. Thanks,Stan.
