Pen Kit Reviews - Fancy Slimline

This is an ongoing series reviewing Pen Kits and other Kits that are available in the UK.
If you are new to turning pens there will be a lot of things that may help you along the way. Even if you are a seasoned pen turner you may find some things in here that you had not thought about.
In this part I look at the budget Slimline Pens. I've chosen the Fancy Slimline Assorted Colours Set No. 3 from PenKitz And Bitz. This has five different finishes, Gunmetal, Gold, Black Titanium, Satin Chrome and Black Enamel. I also ordered the Slim Fancy (Same Kit) in Copper and the Slimline Flat in Satin Nickel from Pen Kits to compare these after as they are a cheaper website.

Hi Paul, Firstly I really like the fact you turned them as a Slimline and not bulbous. The hint is in the name of the kit.
I agree on the bags as well.
Great video with lots of useful information for a new pen turner or an experienced one.

Thank you Huw. I think that's what turning is about making things how you like them. Not a fan of really bulbous pens but some are and happy for them to make them how they like them. Too many bags ever since I've been turning, thankfully this is starting to change.

I agree with the overuse of plastic bags, the long bag that all the other bags come in, I reuse to put the finished pen in to keep it safe before I give it away.

Yes agreed, but the main issue is cost. Whilst plastic bags are cheaper and easier they will stick with that. I'm sure over the coming years things will slowly change, then we will complain we cannot see what is in the paper bags.
