Pretty sure this is a church culture thing. I can't sit near a lot of people during sermons because they go "mm...mm-hm...mmh" the whole time. Like they need to actively participate instead of just listening quietly.

I'm a Christian woman, but hearing them repeatedly talk about things such as fearing God makes me very uncomfortable. I think people like this need to be very careful about the way they frame their conversations around religion-- it's not hard to start sounding a bit pompous and "holier than thou". I believe religion is a very personal experience between yourself and God. So instead of putting your energy into telling other people how to act, you should focus on bettering yourself and your own faith/relationship with God.
Isn't fearing god like old testament stuff like you know that was the god that was like I'll kill your whole family and cattle to test your faith or flood the world to teach a point whilst the New testament god was like peace and all loving and the new testament is really the only part Christians should be following cause you know Jesus?
@@danielshore1457 Nowadays, most Christians (myself included) tend to see it as more respect, like that you would give a good father who loves you or even a trusted teacher, rather than the classic meaning of fear like you said. That kind of view of fear of God is mainly an older one, though the idea does still persist in some Christian circles. Sorry if it doesn't make sense or is wrong anyway, I'm just going by my experiences and beliefs as a Christian and beliefs I've seen in other young Christians
Kathleen KMC I’m fine with people talking about religion on the internet. But as a Christian, it’s just the way that they’re trying to convey the religion is kinda too harsh. Like they’re trying to get people to convert out they’re coming on too harsh or smthn
My sweet little old great grandma born in early 1900 told me way back in the 80's that the only good thing about saving sex for marriage is that you will never know how good it could really be if you end up with a boar... @Dick White I'm sure she can, what they're talking about is a guy who can contribute and not pretend to be an idiot to get out of helping around the house and stuff.
this is definitely off topic from the video, but i like the way you've let more of your personality and sense of humor slip out into your videos recently. i have always enjoyed your videos because they allow me to look at things from a different perspective, but when you allow more of yourself to come through it adds a little something extra. thank you for the great work as always!

I've notice that! It's like a misogyny thing. Like a way of infantilizing women. Like how some men will say females instead of women to dehumanize them, they'll say girls instead of women to make them seem less competent or adult. Weird
chiming in from a fundamentalist background (i used to attend fundamentalist church services with my family, i’m on my own way to find my truth now)… this definitely is a misogyny and fundie-culture thing- at least that i noticed in my former church. women were never referred to as women unless part of a ministry, instead they’d use ‘girls’ or ‘ladies’. only other women would actually say ‘the event for women’ or ‘women’s ministry’ while the men would say ‘girl’s outreach’ or something like that.

yes they do, along with other normal people. Some people these days are stupid. Girls are no different from the other genders in society. They live their lives, thats it.
Me either. I was scared shitless of nuns and god for a very long time . Even though my parents taught me a loving and non judging god I spent a lot of time at my dads parents house who were extremely Irish catholic which is all about fear and guilt ( they charged later in life but through my informative years they really impacted me). Every Sunday I was petrified to go to church that’s finally my parents stood up to them and I was no longer forced to go. I had a prayer book and spoke with “god” every night and ask him all sorts of questions I never got answers to. When I got older I researched the Bible and made me hate the Christian god more and more . I am trying to get more spiritual because I do believe their are “gods “ and maybe a head honcho . Anyways I will never understand feeling safe while being in fear .
when people say "fear god" they dont mean fear as in "ah I'm scared" they mean fear as respect don't know why they didn't just say "respect" in the bible, but hey-ho
@@tiernanhalvey7758 Yeah, but it's a respect based out of fear. There was a lemon demon background line from his Ancient Aliens song that I find sums it up. I am paraphrasing here but "Better evil gods than no gods".

Funny how they claim it isn’t “lady like” for you to experience anything that can happen to make you learn” but WILL claim what is lady like due to “gods followings Last time I checked is that god loves all no matter what you do... •••••• li4nn3.5iu •••••• Exactly. I’m Christian, but I know that, as humans, we aren’t perfect. Girl Defined is such a twisted idea of how to teach Christianity. The goal of finding Jesus and accepting him isn’t about walking on eggshells and beating yourself up about anything bad you do. It’s about accepting the fact that you’ve sinned, asking for forgiveness, and moving on to try and avoid those same mistakes. Even without the Bible, humans have a moral compass. We know right from wrong, so trying to teach it to a person is already a stupid concept. Edit: No longer Christian since writing this, but still applies
just because rthey don't have any style doesnt mean they dont have money. You'd be surprised at how many well off people have no or poor fashion sense.
They are very well off. They once tried to say they were poor because their parents GAVE one of them a car that was like 10 years old instead of new. Their parents own several businesses, the own big, nice houses & they love to talk about how they 'walked away' from modeling careers because Jesus. Which is fine, but not everyone is in a place to just turn down work without yaknow, starving. They consantly are asking for money & selling stuff at crazy prices they can't justify. They like to travel out of state to buy thrift store clothes poor people like me actually need, only to mark it up 500% & sell it online. Plus on their mom's side their great-grandpa was NAZI MAYOR who owned a giant villa in Austria. Bethany & her husband went & visited his grave & the family home while waxing nostalgic on social media about the 'good old days' when nazi-great-gpa ran the town & how glad they were that the house was still in the family. Gross. I have family that were Gypsy refugees, bet they had houses they wanted to keep as well, but that's a whole other thing. Christians have been straying from God and following what non Christians are doing since the beginning of time. It is possible that that is what they are referring to rather than the general "going against societal norms", but idk.
Does america even have any form of counter culture? It certainly isn't being liberal or conservative (since most counter cultures don't have their own news stations and aren't part of the culture as a whole).
They attacked another Christian TH-camr like a year ago I think it was. God Is Gray is her name. She's very sweet and genuinely kind. She saw how people were trolling them and decided to reach out and offer support. Bethany was like "Oh, yes, we're very grateful!" but then that same week came out with a video saying very disgusting things and untruths about GodIsGray. Jimmy from Mr.Atheist is very good friends with GodIsGray and he was absolutely furious about this and made a video about it which is how I found out.
Im Christian too and they are basically just 'Im using God as an excuse to be stupid, and to show what I think is the only right thing, even though we are just in Denial'
Ducklingscap That's true but they're being hypocritical since they're telling girls to 'dress modestly' otherwise they're 'asking for attention'. Girls wearing whatever clothes they want is also a way of expressing themselves, not just to look good for other dudes.
ARCADEAHRI I am a woman who actually wears no makeup and I wouldn’t classify their wardrobes as “normal.” I wouldn’t go to Fred Meyers wearing even a fraction of their accessories. I know everyone’s “normal” is different, and that’s okay...but it’s another thing to preach something and not actively show and live it. Another comment said “there is nothing wrong with that” (the way they dress and look) and there isn’t. There isnt anything wrong with wearing blue, right? But if I constantly preached that blue was awful and that it’s not honoring to God to wear blue, and it’s wrong to wear blue, then I wore blue, there would be an issue. Does that make sense? The action itself is not the problem, it’s the action within the context.
Honestly, this is my favorite commentary channel. He’s never needlessly cruel or distracts from the topic at hand with shitty personal attacks. He lays out the facts, expresses his point of view articulately, and you can just tell he puts a ridiculous amount of effort into these videos. It’s not just criticism, it’s intelligent analysis.
They don't seem to use their brain for critical thinking. That sure can clear up a lot of storage to remember verses in order to repeat them like a parrot
A lot of people memorize them, either for Church or home. My cousins participate in this thing called Bible Bowl. It's basically like a trivia competition almost. Memorization of Bible verses is critical for it - you need to be able to hear the start of a verse and know the answer so you can beat the opponents, or if they ask you to recite a verse, you need to be able to recite them. It just takes a lot of time and dedication, but it can be done.
From what I know of the religion, “fearing the Lord” in the Bible doesn’t mean to actually fear him. It just means you should revere him above everything else. There are lots of weird words like that in the bible

It genuinely scares me how they deliberately start a video with psychological manipulation (ie. the fallacy of saying something you agree with like perception of beauty in media is buggered which primes you to accept more extreme beliefs they espouse) to try and hook their viewers into believing their madness
This video reminds me of a story about my grandmother (also, for clarity’s sake of the story I am male and queer). Me and my grandmother were having a conversation and I don’t remember how it came up, but I told her that me and my fiancé (who is also male) were not having sex till after we married. She looked me straight in the eye and said, “No hun, you got to test drive that car before purchasing it.” Needless to say I was quite flabbergasted. Note that my grandmother wasn’t a hippy or anything, she was very stereotypically a grandmother. Anyway, pointless story, but a funny one.

I don’t believe in god but I don’t care if you do. But like nobody should have to fear anything or anyone IMO. My son is a beautiful boy who only deserves love and that’s how I feel about all children which is why I’m working to be a foster mom. These kids need love not “the fear of god” or the fear of being abandoned or anything of that nature. Say some stupid shit like “well then you’re gonna go to hell and burn forever” like my mom used to tell me and you’re sure to have a child who definitely thinks organized religion is 100% a cult
Actually I watch girl defined reaction videos specifically by formerly religious people as a cathartic process of overcoming my fundamentalist upbringing. I was raised in purity culture which paints women in such a bad light, like virginity equals worth and women should aspire to be "helpmates" not individuals. Girl defined isn't saying anything new and their platform is designed to appeal to and draw in young women viewers who are seeking advice for adolescence and identity issues. So the reaction videos are kind of like a buffer between the toxicity of girl defined's message, humerously refuting their rhetoric. I find it cathartic. I wish I had reaction videos to the radical religious messages of my youth.
That’s something I’ve seen a lot of. I know Jimmy Snow (Mr. Atheist) was brought up in a strict religious household and he’s talked about how harmful that upbringing has been, even after he left. A lot of people who respond to that Jehovah show are like that too, people who were former members of the religion as children and as adults describe it as a cult-like vibe.
I am a Christian in the south and I see this type of Christianity everywhere, and it tends to be what is portrayed and mocked in media (which some of the mockery I totally understand); however, the way I view my walk with Christ doesn't revolve around waiting till marriage to kiss or anything like that (superficial showy things) but rather showing God's love by loving those around me to the best of my ability. A lot of the evangelical christianity tends to be more about showing off what a good christian/ person you are rather than genuinely loving others and developing a close relationship with Christ. It is important for churches and christian communities to remember that they are not immune to corruption, and to not create a sense of superiority, because we are all sinners and saved by God. Jesus hung out with and was friends with the people society deemed "bad" and his disciples were mostly ordinary people. Idk if this makes any sense, but this is the way I view the world
I see this too often myself! It is sad that Christ’s message is perverted to become a status symbol to make people feel they are superior :/ beware the Pharisees and all
I agree, Christians do tend to focus on a lot of unnecessary things but people should be free to express their own opinions, likes and dislikes. I totally see how waiting till marriage could go absolutely beautiful but I also so how it could go wrong. What I'm trying to say is that absolutely nobody has the right to judge these girls for their choice, they found it as something that glorifies God in *THEIR* walk with Christ and that doesn't meet other people's standards, so what? No need to side eye them cause you don't understand
That's fair! Though, I do hate how people make it seem like you need to be religious to be morally good... like- religion shouldn't make you a decent person. You should already be a decent person without the worshipping of god.
My biggest problem with Girl Defined was the lack of self-awareness of the scope of their religion. Sure, THEY believe in the Trinity and the Bible, but most people don't. They treat their beliefs like they are objective when they are actually subjective. It's an issue most religious outreach groups struggle with: they hate to admit that the majority of the world doesn't have the same beliefs, and that they need an argument other than "God intended it" when they preach a message to a world with thousands of gods.
Yah however there talking to Christians are you saying that modern Helenics are wrong for talking about Greek mythology because most of the world doesn't practices hellenic beliefs
@@willardjr6257 I'm not just talking about Girl Defined. The main problem is that arguments against other religions and secularism usually boil down to the same reasoning that Christians use when talking to each other. I guess I should have put my points in a different order, i.e. Christian outreach groups relying on the same rhetoric as groups like Girl Defined, but oh well.
@@andrewmandrona7891 ok that makes a lot more sense I agree with you on that aspect of things and I after rea reading I do see What you were talking about
The majority is actually Christians. It's the largest religion in the world. Also, offcoarse they would talk about it in a factual way. They believe in it. This argument doesn't hold up in many conversations. They are also preaching to Christian women. How else would you want them to speak? Religious people speak in the way they do because they perceive it as the truth just like how anyone speaks about something they believe. Although I do think that the way girldefined speak about their beliefs is unnerving as they seem to have an incredibly close minded view on those who have different beliefs which isn't the best way to preach or teach.
@@fbsie8579 So, I already commented about the rhetoric they're using. Please read that one. Other than that, I think you have a troubling misconception about the world. There are only about two billion Christians in the world, and those groups are further splintered with Protestant and Catholic groups. Overall this is less than 1/3 of the world population, far from most, and Christianity probably won't be the top religion much longer due to how fast Islam is growing.
okay are they like.... abnormally tall or something?when you show them talking to ppl on the street theyre taller than some of the guys and they absolutely TOWER over the women. is it because they are full of jesus's love to help them stretch closer to the lort
The way you explained how they're not countercultural just because they're not necessarily mainstream or belonging to a majority belief was so great. It's something I've felt when I hear people say things like that, but couldn't quite figure out how to verbalize.
Our “facts” are filtered through by our observation. Sadly, that’s the best tool we got. Might I remind you that for quite a good while this tool of ours seemed to claim the earth was flat. Is there a god? That subject is a bit too big for our tools.
@@skycastrum5803 We claimed the earth was flat around the same time where religion was accepted as fact so of course "science" and "facts" would be ridiculously wrong back in ancient times. Now we can just assume things that are too ridiculous to be real to be false, like heaven and hell or witchcraft or 72 genders, etc.
Ashley Johansson: Just give it enough time. Eventually, we’ll have lived in “ancient times.” (Or who knows? Meteor/rapture, lol.) What seems ridiculous changes all the time. And honestly, while majority opinion is good to know and understand why, it’s a far cry from a decent judge of truth. So, while it may mean very little in the long run, you can place your bet but I’ll keep an open mind on this issue.
Who says they are wearing it for beauty? And if beauty doesnt matter then it doesnt matter if they are wearing makeup or not. I wear make up because its like clothes to me I like to Express myself through it and feel more like i am portraying myself.
Oh also, at 24:06 they talk about how we aren't being taught to not have sex before marriage. That's not true, I live in the southern united states and abstinence-only sex ed is still taught widespread here
@@absoluteunit240 because white christian parents are worried about their "angel kids", who are already addicted to nicotine and commenting on girls bodies anyway
Interestingly enough, I was raised in Texas, as a homeschooled Christian child. I was taught that it was probably better to not have sex until marriage. Once I realized that marriage was fucked, I decided to still wait until I found the man I would be with forever. It just seems interesting to me.
I'm in Western Washington, which is generally considered pretty liberal, and we had almost abstinence only sex ed as well. There was one day we talked about birth control, and then it was back to not having sex and the horrors of STDs. Our final presentation was about the benefits of abstinence until marriage. We specifically were not allowed to make a presentation about safe sex, someone asked. It had to be abstinence.
@@absoluteunit240 I'm guessing that it is because the Bible was created before sexual protection was. Abstinence was/is a method to protect people from STDs & unwanted pregnancy when there were few/no alternatives. However abstinence is now in the Bible, and nobody is radical enough to change the Bible (except perhaps Thomas Aquinas but he is long dead now). Having said that, I'm not American so there may be culture factors that I'm unaware of.
I can't remember the name of the study. But they asked a bunch of people who were teens in the 1920's about sex (so they were like 80 years old when they did the survey). And they found that over 80% of them had sex before marriage, the talked openly about it. So, the idea that people "Waited until marriage" has most likely never really been that popular. The reality is people have sex before marriage...and those they should know how to have that sex in a safe way.
And this is exactly what turned me away from Christianity. The whole "do as I say, not as I do" crap was annoying and I saw through it from an early age. Many members of the churches I have attended, prayed on Sunday for all their sins they did Monday through Saturday to only repeat them again starting Monday. If you can't even abide by your own beliefs, why force it on others? Many of them sending their pregnant teens to their "aunt's house" for 6 months or even forcing them to have an abortion because, God forbid the congregation find out what their daughter did. A distant cousin of mine got knocked up when she was 15. Her dad forced her to have an abortion and that really fucked her head up for a long time. I was about 7 years older and tried to get her into counseling, and her father refused to allow it then banned me from seeing her ever again. He also threatened to call the cops on me if I visited my aunt, his mother-in-law, who lived next door. A true psychopath who also abused his kids and pets. Who works that hard to keep their child mentally fucked up in the head? A Christian. As soon as she turned 18, she married the first boy to come along and "take her away." She is now a single mom who can barely keep a job at Walmart.
It was "reasonable" back in the days of the Bible because it was important to know who is offspring of which man. Children were the sign of blessing and the social security. The social structure relied on inheritance, not only in the sense of wealth, but also honor and status. If you know your children exactly (adoption or fostering weren't that much of a thing you know) you secure you heritage. All restriction on the agency of women was essentially about this - if you (as in the men) kept the wives in order and make them stay at home, there will much less likely be "accidents". It was practical, not so much about chastity. Marriage was practical, not romantic or even religious, it was an agreement between fathers. Makes sense if you know the full stage there. Now where the problems rise is when you try to implement this in modern times and make it about "purity".
That's the tricky part about defining "traditions" and comparing the present to anything in the past. We seem to think that traditions and beliefs are stagnant and constant but they are frequently changing all the time too. So what they see as classic, traditional, and "standing the test of time" just isn't nearly as consistent historically as they want to present it. Hell, most of the fundamentalist bologna they spout is a pretty recent invention reinforced by the wave of conservatism often attached to Raegan and new-age conservatism of the late 20th century.
So it's only been rumored that Beth's husband went to a conversion camp but he's adtessee it and said otherwise. Also, in very fundamentalis t families children do not have to be gay to be sent to a camp. Parents fearing their children aren't gender conforming enough or interested enough in the opposite sex can send their children away. Just to be sure apparently 🤷♀️
Thank you so much for not just crapping on religion. I think a lot of people take that route and I think it’s the easy one. You’re always so balanced and that’s why I enjoy watching you.
I love religion in a anthropological way, how they helped our world to become what it is today; blah-blah, cant understand how ppl dont respect others belief
Dio Brando I mean, I’m not sure how the talking point is stupid? We shouldn’t be doing things like we did 2000 years ago? Or taking everything in the bible literally? I mean, I’ve read it, and some of that shit is crazy, and I’m pretty sure everyone alive should be stoned 5 times over if every single part is taken literally.
Girl Defined is my aesthetic, honestly. I love horrid, wicked things presented in a cutesy manner. Gotta wrap hate and narcissism in a pink blanket and put a bow on top 💝 Great job done, my dude
as someone who grew up religious, they’re also just absolutely archetypal “Christian girls.” like i know ten people who are exactly like them, and there are multiple times one of them has been like “wanna grab coffee!?” with this exact fun & light vibe, with some intense “i need to save your soul” subtext.
@@leannameents8309 I take it as a subtle caution. You know why you should do the things God tells you to do because it's the right thing to do, yet you also do it because he's very vengeful as well. A good way to think of this is like a child being fearful of the punishment he'll get if he fights with his brother.
Everyone: I don't like people who always quote Bible verses, shove religion down people's throats, and then say they are in the right. Girl Defined: Hmm...
As a person who previously religious, I find two things troubling: 1) GirlDefined assumes that one is inherently going to become bad if they step out line with religion in any way whatsoever. This mindset really freaked with my head, making me thing that I was destined for a life of hell because I thought watching Johnny Sins was a good way to use my lonely times. (Spoiler: I am not a coke addicted hooker. Thanks mom.) 2) The broader Christian community is so fear-mongering . They create a bubble of thought instead of giving you any tools to defend yourself from the true evils of the world. Instead of telling you how to avoid sexual harassment, they tell you "you shouldn't have been in a situation where you could have been harassed in the first place". Instead of teaching you to speak up, they teach you to "obey your elders". This creates a horrid dynamic where quite frankly, you're setting people up not the explore things for themselves and stripping them of their problem solving capabilities. But then again. This thoughts are my own.
From your first point they think people become bad if they step out of their definition of "Christianity", because am sure the wont acknowledge other religion.
Your second point is why a lot of kids feel so terrified to tell leaders in their church/their own parents about sexual misconduct held by other leaders because they’re considered guilty of sinful acts.. which is so damn dangerous. They get away with it for so long because the act of sex is so taboo, impure, and we never were educated in how to defend ourselves from sex that is actually wrong. I was sexually abused by a church leader and didn’t come out with it until recently. When I did tell them, who hadn’t gone to church since my abuse, they turned it so it wasn’t their fault and blamed me for ruining my abuser’s covenant of marriage and I should be ashamed of myself. I ruined their relationship with God.. being a sexy little 15 year old girl who was his student…? They’re all fucked in the brain regarding sex and the inherent power dynamic that older men have over the youth by talking about such vulnerable things with them and forming their minds to become easy targets for such abuse.
@@amandasantana5725 thats actually scarily close to what happened to me. My parents are both very religious and have never taken my story to a more higher place than the church’s senior pastor, thus no one in the church knows what happened to me or a few other girls at church, and on top of that, that pastor is still at that church.
Big Boy Dan Cannon I wasn’t really taking a crack at staying a virgin until marriage, I just mean that the girls are pretty nuts for refusing to kiss. You basically can’t do anything remotely intimate because it goes agains god or something.
"Basing their identity on their looks" - seems like these girls are well into the looks thing: hair, makeup, clothes, jewelry, and dare I say it, false eyelashes.
Not to mention telling girls and women how to dress. It doesn’t matter what’s on the outside, you say? Then why are you telling women what they should look like to be “godly?” Does a woman’s appearance matter or not?
Sorry god said (perhaps you know this psalm 😂😂quote 👆🏻)‘ the eye is the lamp of the body if eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light’ so perfect excuse for fake eyelashes
@@agirlinsearchof9057 That's a good question. God obviously sees *beyond* one's appearance (bc he sees the heart), and from there we can say what matters is the intention in your heart to do said action. There are many examples of this principle in the Bible, like when Jesus taught the public about judging. Many digest it as him saying not to judge, when actually judging is very important & effective when done right.. Jesus didn't say not to judge, but to inspect why you're judging in the first place- to help someone or just to feel superior over them when you're just as flawed (the speck in the eye comparison)? That kinda thing. This translates into clothing by dressing not for vanity, impressing ppl you don't know, or putting your ultimate confidence in the makeup/sexy clothes, but knowing you're beautiful as you are on your own apart from these items.
I remember the days when I would call it "struggling with same sex attraction." *sigh* Me now: "accepting and thoroughly enjoying my same sex attraction." ;)
I've been a Christian since I was 17, & honestly, Girl Defined's legalistic approach bothers me a great deal. I have found that when you welcome people as they are, it helps build meaningful relationships with everyone regardless of beliefs. I have friends of varying sexualities, walks of life, etc & we've had many honest, respectful conversations about touchy subjects, like religion, social issues, etc. What keeps our friendship strong, is our openness and our willingness to say that we will always be there for each other, no matter what we choose. The world is changing everyday, & will never again be what it was 2000-3000 years ago, & it's important to meet it where it's at now & not force people to change. In other words, be a good listener, and an understanding person. I don't blame Strange Aeons for where she is now. I hope she finds what she needs & lives a long, blessed life. I just hope Girl Defined reevaluates someday. That's all I hope for: for good things and teachable moments to happen.
I've met some Mormons who took the time to learn the local language so that we could intellectually debate and talk. They didn't manage to convince me, but they were respectful, kindhearted and almost made me wish I could believe it because their community seemed loving. IMO that is the way a believer should behave. Be a beacon. Leave the judging to God (Or if you don't believe in a God, leave the judging of others alone) and just try to show kindness to everyone. These girls freak me out and are very much not behaving in an appealing way. I grew up Christian myself, and when the man who basically saved my sisters life got thrown out of the church for being gay, that's the day I decided to leave that church myself. 2 years after, in a different church, I finally lost my religion entirely. I recognize what isn't being said behind all the stuff they DO say and it's quite frankly, frightening. The subtext is a lot more culty and judgy than the friendly face they painted onto it.
"Only God can judge.... unless I'm a young privileged white girl, then I can do it too". The hypocrisy is insane. Great video my dude. As always. Keep up the amazing content
@Eddie Sam you don't have to personally know someone to make a judgement on the content they produce. They constantly judge people in their videos for doing things that are entirely natural.
@@eddiesam8539 you realize that their page does show people a look into their lives and what kind of person they are. You can make assumptions about people if you have stuff by them to go off. And they literally have several videos on them judging what they think is worthy/pure. They are not God but they sure as act like it.
Talking about feminism whilst strongly advocating for a system written by highly patriarchal men 2000 years ago without a shadow of self-awareness is the definition of irony.
@@wrappedaroundmyfinger i is illegal by Islamic (the caliphate) law to be gay in any Islamic country, at best you will be forced to have gender reassignment surgery, at worst you are thrown of sky scrapers. in Islam a woman is by the very law inferior to a man. and this is in current year. how on earth is Christianity worse than Islam?
Peter Lock Bolvig you are not wrong here but one should aknowlege that many people here strive for equality in our society. And ours happens to be based on christianity. You can always point to others and say „they are doing more terrible stuff than we so we don‘t have to look at our own flaws“. Do you see my point here? Even though a lot of the christian society has undergone modernization, many fundamental christians will still condem behaviour or laws that are nowadays widely accepted. Look at russia, a christian country where homosexuality is still punishable (and sometimes gay people just „disappear“) and womens rights are not upto the standarts as in europe or the states. Fundamental cheistians troughout europe and the americas don‘t put women equal to men as in „listen to your husband, you should be a homemaker and a childmaker“, because the bible states that women are lesser beings. many lgbt+ people from these fundamental christian groups suffer greatly due to the identity chrisis they have to go trough or they are completely shunned. Also taking away the right of women to decide over their own body is based on christian ideas as one can see in the „pro-life“ discussions currently ongoing in the states. It is by all means not a black and white discussion and my argument here is of course leaned into the extreme but it‘s nevertheless a counterargument and i hope it does give some insight in why some people in the western society are so oical against christianity.
Can you seriously be imagine though some random being like 'you give me your dna so I can be a transphobic to your face' ripp no that's not how the world works buddy
Christians: HUMANS ARE SO COMPLEX THAT WE COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN MADE BY A GOD! Also Christians: bolt no go with bolt like boy no go with boy. This is a very reasonable comparison bc humans have the same emotional capacity and reason for being as nuts and bolts.
Humans are beyond complex. But no God nor gods should tell you what you already know. It just explains how unique humans are when looking at us on a grander scale.
Why I waited two years after marriage until breathing in the same room as my husband so even his air doesn’t get inside of me before Jesus says it’s alright.
A lot of people ask what the meaning of life is. What is our purpose? Personally, I think we should be asking ourselves 'What is my purpose? What gives my life meaning?
Not even sure where in the bible it says to punish slaves for any reason, pretty sure they said the slaves shouldn't lash out *in the context* that revenge is never justified. It's a misconception that it's homophobic as well. It's a ton of stupid people trying to get their beliefs out by misinterpreting a vague message. It says lust is a sin, not homosexuality.
@@dude8171 Agreed. Slavery and the Bible is quite the complicated matter, but the slavery practised in the 1800s is something its authors would condemn.
Thank you for being so respectful of Christianity in your video whilst still making fair criticisms when you came across the opportunity, it was surprisingly refreshing.
I was raised this way, and the words I heard most were, "You cannot be in the world and of God. You must choose one." I think this mindset is why they have such an anticulture, antisociety opinion. I wasn't even allowed to listen to "secular" music, wear "secular" clothes, participate in "society" in Christmas parties, Halloween, be friends with nonChristians, it was the idea that you can only be Christian, or be part of society I thought I had to reject the idea of a creator to wear the clothes I like, or listen to music that didn't sound like someone lusting over a mystical being.
I don't understand those Christians who think I can't listen to secular music, wear secular clothes or be in secular events. It depends. That verse meant something different 😑. It means you shouldn't have the same futile mindset the world has or be pressed to follow the crowd. It means to please God over man bc your accountability in the end is towards God, not men. I can still listen to EDM for example.
Out of pure curiosity, if not too personal, which denomination was your family from? Anyway, your experience is truly awful. I wonder at what point was it forgotten who Jesus spent time with. Cause it definitely wasn't the most "pure and noble", nor the pious and godly. He didn't place conditions. He literally preached about how a frowned upon Samaritan can be more moral and true than a priest. The notion that only the holiest can for a true congregation was denounced already in the fourth century AD. It truly bugs me how eager some Christians are to ruin faith for some just for the sake of their own fear and "purity".

So instead of putting your energy into telling other people how to act, you should focus on bettering yourself and your own faith/relationship with God.
i wish more christians was as level headed as you and just leave people to their own beliefs rather than tell others what to think. thanks
Isn't fearing god like old testament stuff like you know that was the god that was like I'll kill your whole family and cattle to test your faith or flood the world to teach a point whilst the New testament god was like peace and all loving and the new testament is really the only part Christians should be following cause you know Jesus?
@@danielshore1457 Nowadays, most Christians (myself included) tend to see it as more respect, like that you would give a good father who loves you or even a trusted teacher, rather than the classic meaning of fear like you said. chiming in from a fundamentalist background (i used to attend fundamentalist church services with my family, i’m on my own way to find my truth now)… this definitely is a misogyny and fundie-culture thing- at least that i noticed in my former church. women were never referred to as women unless part of a ministry, instead they’d use ‘girls’ or ‘ladies’. only other women would actually say ‘the event for women’ or ‘women’s ministry’ while the men would say ‘girl’s outreach’ or something like that.

Anyways I will never understand feeling safe while being in fear .
when people say "fear god" they dont mean fear as in "ah I'm scared" they mean fear as respect
don't know why they didn't just say "respect" in the bible, but hey-ho
@@tiernanhalvey7758 Yeah, but it's a respect based out of fear. Christians don't respect their God because they think he's kind and loving, they respect him because they're terrified of the repercussions of not respecting him. It's basically a mainstream and modernized version of "leader by strength" and not "leader by capability".
There was a lemon demon background line from his Ancient Aliens song that I find sums it up.
I am paraphrasing here but
"Better evil gods than no gods".

Certain types of Christians can have a certain idea on how you should live your life as a person but can guilt trip you in the kind of way to the point of where there isn’t too much freedom and maturity for you to learn the mistakes and grow.
I wouldn’t say all but some do.

They both are wearing so much make up and perfect hair. Perfect clothes. Looks like rich backgrounds. I just couldn't take them seriously.....
Rich? Lol you can find clothes like that at cheap stores and buy makeup for $5 and less
just because rthey don't have any style doesnt mean they dont have money. You'd be surprised at how many well off people have no or poor fashion sense.
So what if they're rich? What's your point?
They remind me alot of Classically Abby, they often say feminism=bad because they think that's why women feel pressure to work. I feel pressure to work because I enjoy not starving & sleeping indoors. The live so high above normal they have no idea what motivates real women. You don't have to be a billionaire to be incredibly naive about socio-economic realities I guess.

To be fair a lot of people like make up as art or form of expression yourself and not necessarily because of the looks
Ducklingscap That's true but they're being hypocritical since they're telling girls to 'dress modestly' otherwise they're 'asking for attention'. Girls wearing whatever clothes they want is also a way of expressing themselves, not just to look good for other dudes.
they never said to not to look but to not put it first

gractendo There isn’t anything wrong with it, there is if you’re being hypocritical about it. Which they usually are.
They also model...
Uh, not really? They wear normal clothes and minimal makeup. Are you even a girl lol?
As a Christian myself, how the hell do people remember Bible Verses? Aren’t there like 7,000 of them?
I was thinking that lol
They don't seem to use their brain for critical thinking. That sure can clear up a lot of storage to remember verses in order to repeat them like a parrot
And they take things out of context.
JustinWasHere, Probably I never was good at memorizing them or anything else

Mark 2: v 16-17

@@andrewmandrona7891 ok that makes a lot more sense I agree with you on that aspect of things and I after rea reading I do see
What you were talking about
The majority is actually Christians.

There are only facts and according to facts, religion is make believe. Thats how the real world works.
Ashley Johansson: Just give it enough time. Eventually, we’ll have lived in “ancient times.” (Or who knows? Meteor/rapture, lol.) What seems ridiculous changes all the time.
To be fair the 20' were a pretty liberal times.
A lot of people don't, too.
aren’t both their husbands “formerly” gay men?
😳
So it's only been rumored that Beth's husband went to a conversion camp but he's adtessee it and said otherwise. Also, in very fundamentalis t families children do not have to be gay to be sent to a camp. Parents fearing their children aren't gender conforming enough or interested enough in the opposite sex can send their children away. Just to be sure apparently 🤷♀️

I thinks it's fine to believe in god, just don't go overboard with it please. That's just me.
As a person who previously religious, I find two things troubling:
1) GirlDefined assumes that one is inherently going to become bad if they step out line with religion in any way whatsoever. This mindset really freaked with my head, making me thing that I was destined for a life of hell because I thought watching Johnny Sins was a good way to use my lonely times. (Spoiler: I am not a coke addicted hooker. Thanks mom.)
2) The broader Christian community is so fear-mongering .
Just remember to wait before marriage to make eye contact with your spouse!
Safest bet is to hold off on finding out who they are before marriage.

Because "sex" means "knowing everything there is to know", sure sure. How's that modern divorce rate going?
That was the first thing I noticed.

The subtext is a lot more culty and judgy than the friendly face they painted onto it.

how on earth is Christianity worse than Islam?
Well considering they love the idea of worshipping a sky daddy... I mean...
