- Beatrice Berrut plays the Chaconne in d-minor by Bach-Busoni.
Bach's Chaconne forms the final movement of his Partita no.2 for violin. It has become one of the best-known pieces written for violin and, as a result, has inspired a number of composers to transcribe it. Busoni's majestic transcriptions is not entirely faithful to the original. It is more in the manner of a broad re-interpretation of the Chaconne for piano with little attention paid to the tone colour of the original. With its recurring cadences, lyric passages, bold use of tritones, it gives the feeling to enter a great cathedral of sound, close to colours of organ.

I've been working on this piece for over 5 years and although I'll probably never get to a professional level, the way you do it is as close as anyone can ever possibly get to perfection.
I'm on the same boat here. This piece is on my bucket and it will take me years to familiarize myself with the whole thing. I'll probably never get proficient enough to do it justice but it's something to work toward.

Although I appreciate enormously piano transcriptions of Mahler's symphonies made by Mrs Berrut, Bach has always been my favourite composer, unique personality within complete history of music. Owing to certain performances of Bach's piano compositions in fact I discovered Beatrice's refined pianism and numerous extraordinary recordings. There is a giant gift in this lady who covers indeed wide spectrum of repertoire, and everything she plays is literarly superb!

beautifully melodic interpretation. reminds me of the gorgeous church bells i heard in Ariege in the French pyrenees,,,ancient bells ringing up a storm on an afternoon near Seix...and i love that like Kempff, Beatrice's forte is not hammered...actually i like this more than Benedetti's whose version i love. Ms. B's version has a warmth and heart/tenderness to it that i also hear in her Lizst...which is not easy to do...people usually make Lizst overly dramatic and icy. Ms. B's sensitive restraint along with voicing reminds me of my favorite pianist Wilhelm Kempff. I cant wait to hear her when she is 70 or 75, the age Kempff was on the recording i know. Oh, well, i won't be here, but that's besides he point. This is really fine and gives me so much joy. Merci!

Hey - ich bin Pianist aus Kalifornien in den USA... niemals habe ich so eine Interpretation dieses Stücks gefunden, die so spektakulär wie deine war! Ich bewundere deine Tempowahl der vielen Teilen, in denen zu viele Pianisten einfach zu schnell spielen. Was ich am meisten bewundere, ist dass du deine Tempos nicht laufen lässt. Zudem hast du die Rubatos eingeschränkt ... Du hast so viel mit dieses Stück geleistet. Bravo! Ich hoffe, dass wenn ich dieses Stück vorspiele, spiele ich's genau so wie du!
