  • Have you ever heard of a doula? In this video I describe what a doula is, what the current evidenced based research shows about having a doula for your labor and birth, how they help you and your partner, and when to hire one!

My doula was so amazing and I have an amazing memory of my birth due to her. My midwives on the other hand, created a negative birth experience for me and that's why I'm so thankful I had my doula! She was everything I didn't realize I needed.

Hi Haley! I love your videos! So informational and you have such a wonderful positive energy. 🙏 Doulas seem fantastic! Would you happen to have any recommendations of Doulas in the SF Bay area? (Not sure where you are based). Many thanks!

Thank you Caroline!! I don't personally know any in that area, but you can always look at www.dona.org/what-is-a-doula/find-a-doula/ to find a certified doula in your area or call the hospital where you will be delivering and ask if any of their nurses do doula work on the side! Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy! 💞💗🥰

I’ve been binging your videos thinking how sweet and kind you seem... only to see that you’re out of Naples! I live in Cape Coral and my office is in Fort Myers. I tried your website but it wouldn’t load for some reason. How do I contact you? Thank you!

Thankyou for this breakdown! I'm 5 weeks with my first baby. I know I want a midwife and they require a doula. I totally understand why through your video! I'm excited for a relationship with a doula.

My labor and delivery nurse was my hero, but I did wish that I knew about doulas.

    What is a doula?
-A companion who gives you continuous support through labor and birth.
-Can help decrease medical interventions, C-section, admission to NICU, negative birth memories.
    How do they do it?
-Massage, pressure to alleviate pain, education on what’s happening in your body, techniques to help through contractions, with you continuously unlike labor/delivery nurse.
-Advocates for you through shared decision making
-Helps husband be able to help you and provides support to husband
When should you hire a doula?
    -Never too early to hire
-Comforting to have someone to text and ask questions when needed
    Q’s to ask Doula:
-How many clients do you take per month?
-Can you help with my labor and delivery plan?

I love the idea of hiring a doula... do you know how this might work during the restrictions with COVID-19? I want my husband to be there with me. But if it's possible to also have a doula that would be ideal.

Absolutely! Most hospitals are allowing two visitors per hospital stay now, but call the hospital where you will be delivering to confirm their visitor policy.

Is it recommended that the Doula lives in the same state? I have a friend who is a Doula, but she lives in IL and I’m in FL. Also, if I had to have a C-section the first pregnancy (never dilated past 1cm), would my Doula be able to better prepare me to deliver the second round vaginally?

Thank you. I actually shut it down due to receiving more work than I could possibly handle with all of my other responsibilities, so now I just rely on word of mouth. 💞

Unfortunately I am not longer taking doula clients due to my current schedule! Check out Dona.org for a registry of certified doulas in your area!
