“Everything she’s ever written is coming together for this album” bro I didn’t even think about that I 100% agree. Also- I feel there’s so no other song that truly captures Lana Del Rey than Hope Is A Dangerous Thing…
It's so weird that such a melancholic album can feel yet so warm, I discovered this album at the start of the pandemic and I was going through a depressive episode and NFR gave me such a feeling of peace even when I was feeling helpless. Idk literal magic
Bartender 🍷🍒 is partly about escaping the paparazzi “they don’t yet know what car I drive” and “it’ll buy me a year/photo-free exits” and the bart-t-tender is like imitating the camera shutter sound. It’s so lush and mysterious, my fav track on this masterpiece
i looooveee the stutter on the bar-t-t-tender part, because it's like a duel meaning - it's the camera shutter of the paparazzi, but also the slurring of a drunken patron at the bar. so beautiful
I interpreted Mariner's apartment complex the other way around, that she's talking about how strong she is and how she can help guide him through his sadness. I think it show's Lana's growth through the years from when she was desperately chasing unavailable men in Born to Die, to NFR where SHE is not the stable one, the board the lightening the thunder.
That’s correct. Considering the song was about a guy who was like “we’re both messed up that’s why we get along” and Lana is like “actually I’m pretty alright” hence “you took my sadness out of context”
I think it's either way. Like the line people can change, you don't have to leave her. Perhaps it's important to be told someone will offer you their hand, and important to do the same to others.
I saw her for NFR! and Lust for Life and I have to say while I love NFR her Lust for Life concert was fucking incredible, best moment of my life. She actually sang more songs that would eventually be on chemtrails than songs from NFR at that concert.
That’s awesome, I am so jealous!! I’m cursing myself for not making the drive from the DFW to Oklahoma because then everything happened and I missed my chance. 😭
That moment at the end of The Greatest is just so unbelievably heartbreaking. It feels like you’ve fallen in love with these two very real people and their relationship and you’re genuinely rooting for them. So when she finally accepts the end it just feels so close to you
Doin´ Time is a cover from the band sublime she did for a documentation, it was one of the singles (the biggest one). She actually covered "Summertime The Gershwin Version" as well (what you were singing) which is great too!

“The Greatest” is on my top 5 Lana songs. It just really means so much to me. Also, Long Beach, CA is my hometown and I just recently moved so when she sings “I miss Long Beach and I miss you babe” it just makes me so emotional 😭❤️
EXACTLY mariners apartment complex is her BEST SONG EVER, her songwriting was so mature in that song, for the first time she’s taking the control of the relationship and she’s finally accepting that she’s powerful and valuable too.
She released this album on my birthday and it's one of my favorite albums of all time, I even consider it as her litte birthday gift for me. Now I have my own personal tradition of listening to this album as soon as I open my eyes on my birthday
It’s funny that ‘how to disappear’ reminds you of her song ‘wild at heart’. Fun fact, that breakdown instrumental in that song is recycled and used for the chorus in wild at heart. The mix is slightly altered but it’s the same
Lana has been my favourite artist over 10 years since the very beginning of her career. It’s been amazing to watch her develop and it’s been great to watch you go on that same journey, appreciating her truly for the legend that she is - something that was never given to her in the beginning, she truly worked so hard to get to this point through all of the criticism. Even today, new layers of her universe get unravelled to me and your thoughts and opinions add an extra dimension of meaning, so thank you so much for your react videos. It would be great to see you react to unreleased songs, live performances (there are MANY that are so amazing and even better than the actual version), music videos and violet bent backwards over the grass (poetry book which she did a spoken word record for). Her universe is so well developed and it would be great to see you experience that.
TW: Suicide i heard a theory that says that California is actually about somebody who committed suicide, and now she's saying how when he comes back he's gonna do all these things with him, but she knows is not gonna happen, there's also hints to him being dead because she mentions a letter and how she feels bad that she didn't reach out to him when he needed help, but now there's nothing she could possibly do or say cause it's too late, so that's why she's saying all these things in this song, this is everything she wishes she could've said to him
I remember listening to this album for the first time when it came out, it was a hot summer night I went my garden, layed down and listened to the album. Listening to love song for the first time was an other wordly experience like I wasnt even in me during those 3 minutes. Even after the song finished I had to stop for a few minutes to pull myself together and get the waterworks to stop and seeing your reaction to love song just reminded me how it was for me. What I would give to relive that night and hear NFR for the first time again
So glad that you saw that wild at heart samples how to disappear And yes the line "liquor off the top shelf" is one fo the line in Carmen in Born To Die
Fact! I remember first time I listened to Wild at heart, I was deeply obsesed with How to the disappear back then so everything was too perfect to be true
@@StephanieLams yess!! also, I might sound crazy, but the part where she sings "I left Calabasas and scaped all the ashes" reminds me so much of "I bought me a truck in the middle of the night" in Bartender
I still remember her having snippets of Cinnamon Girl, Love Song, and Happiness is a butterfly on her instagram FOREVER before the album came out and so I would wander around singing these little one minute snippets I had memorized for months and months before album release day happened and we finally got the whole songs 😂🙈
Facts: -In the gratest she sings about the fires in california and the ruin of US - in mariners apartment complex she tells us that she is supportive and she will give us her hand if we fall -in bartender she sings about to escape In the cover she is escaping from LA because everything is in flames and she is offering us her hand to us to scape in the boat with her ART
Lana’s understanding of music of language of being in touch with her feelings and herself both dark and light, hopelessly hopeful… she’s really just stamped herself into history as one of the greatest song writers in modern history.
This is my favorite album of all time, I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to it and what it means to me. But this analysis made me think of quite a few songs in a new way. The way you listen to, analyze, and embody the music you listen to is seriously incredible. Brava!
@@abcdeqwerty1047 MAGDALENE by FKA twigs which also came out in 2019, Melodrama by Lorde, When The Pawn & The Idler Wheel by Fiona Apple, Vespertine & Homogenic by Björk, Hounds of Love & The Dreaming by Kate Bush, Tori Amos’ first 4 records, Wasteland, Baby! by Hozier which also came out in 2019, CALIGULA & SINNER GET READY by Lingua Ignota (the former of which came out in 2019 as well), The College Dropout & MBDTF by Kanye West, TPAB by Kendrick Lamar, are all some of my personal favs that I can think of off the top of my head.
Wow! I loved every reaction. Crying, laughing, dancing, jumping, breathing etc. You are so fantastic, emotional, so cool ... You're the kind of friend that everyone is Looking for. I'm seriously. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Not only is doin time homage to the jazz song but actually a cover of a 90s sublime song “doin time” edit: she was requested to do this as tribute to the singer by his wife
the cinnomin girl being like a sequel in some ways really makes sense. someone said something about violet blue green red to keep me at arms length means the colour of bruises. i hope someone can theorise this better tbh im waffling.
Venice B**** is about Venice Beach, a location in California (L.A. I think) most of her discography is Americana vibes. I also love how in Bartender she's hiding from fame and the city and in Chemtrails she retreats to the country side opting for a quieter life. Our girl is a long way from where she was in Born to Die, happier I think, in Bannisters too. Troubled still, but more at peace.
Mariners Apartment Complex is also the song that made me cry while listening to the Album. I truly believe it is Lana’s masterpiece. Its incredibly human. When she said “I fucked up I know that but Jesus, cant a girl just do the best she can?” I felt that.
I just love you! You have such a gift for portraying the magic of music, particularly Lana’s. Her music makes me incredibly emotional and im so glad you’re able to really understand her and her music just like I do. Love your videos !
I love your voice and your energy. NFR is most likely the album I listened to the most of all time. But I cried many times with you through this reaction. It keeps touching me and the quality of these lyrics and guitars and pianos and the overall quality and beauty of this album is just unbelievable. Will forever be one of my go to’s and close to my heart ♥️
I am a six foot five long haired bearded manly man and I have cried my eyes out every time I listen to this album and i have listened to it a lot. Masterpiece. Great reaction video. You feel it and get it. Thank you
Always love your reactions. Lana seriously isnt like most mainstream artists. Her vision has always been her vision, and shes never adjusted it for anyone or become a robot like many high up in the industry.
This is Lana’s best work. Not only is it comforting, it’s deeply heartbreaking and honest; something that she has always been able to do in her music, but NFR really showed the world what we knew she was building up to. Watching your reaction is so exciting and emotional! I cried, laughed, and just had a joyful time watching this. I really feel like you should check out FKA Twigs and her catalog. Her music is beyond what anyone is doing now, and her lyricism is something that is so complex yet beautiful! Not to mention the complexity of her instrumentals. Lana and Twigs are changing the game for music and deserve so much more love and attention.
This was so incredibly healing to watch; I’m a huge Lana stan; and I resonated so much with your beautiful energy and your appreciation for Lana’s poetic magic. Thank you for making this masterpiece, this got me through a rough night ❤️🥺
Nfr! Is my favorite album of all time, I cannot even describe the feelings I get whenever I listen to it. It’s timeless, wistful, nostalgic. It’s one of the few albums that will stand the test of time, yet it embodies time itself.
The Next American Record was supposed to be in Lust For Life with different lyrics. The song leaked and she thought it didn't fit in the record, so she changed the lyrics and put it in the next one. You should listen to the demo version, the meaning is really different, it's angrier. I always preferred the demo, but I quite liked your interpretation of the album version, it adds a new layer of meaning, so I think I changed my mind.
I liked you perspective on bartender a lot! It’s my favorite song lol. I always thought it was about like struggles of fame and she’s like getting a new truck so the paparazzi don’t know where she’s at and she’s enjoying life with the bartender
Doing time lifts the jazz song summertime but it's a cover of the Sublime Song Doing Time and was recorded for their documentary- added to the album after doing time did well on radio
theres a famous 60s song called crimson and clover thats been covered by a lot of people including joan jett and the runaways (one of lana's inspos) which is the reference in venice bitch
I was chocked as well when i heard Wild at heart. The melody is very similar to how to disappear. And, I don’t know witch song is my favorite. NFR is really important to me. I felt in love on the first time i heard. The melodies, the lyrics, her voice. It’s just PERFECT. Lana is everything to me.
I also cried listening to this the first time, and often later. I listened to this album over and over near exclusively for a year when it came out. 2019 was as bad as 2020 for me, and I don't think I would have made it without it. Every hard year has an album that sort of rescues me a little. "Honeymoon" is the best Lana del Rey album, "NFR" is the best Lizzie Grant album. and "Chemtrails Over the Country Club" is where Lana meets Lizzie.
I love that analogy of differentiating Lana and Lizzie. Could I ask the markers you make between Honeymoon and NFR (both fantastic ) that represent the different sides of her ? Xx
Mariners Apartment Complex is about a guy Lana was talking to he said they could relate to each other because they’re both sad and she said she wasn’t sad and she would be his light so when she sings I’m your man it’s more her saying she’ll take the role of being the strong one in the relationship it’s not from a mans perspective
I've loved Lana since 2011.. she is the best singer out there and her songwriting isn't like anything else. Mariners got me like that too, and Venice bitchh, The n b american record, hope is a dangerous thing. Yeah when i'm Low, i listen to Lizzie aka Lana, when i'm happy i listen to Lana. She is to talented for this world.

TW: Suicide
i heard a theory that says that California is actually about somebody who committed suicide, and now she's saying how when he comes back he's gonna do all these things with him, but she knows is not gonna happen, there's also hints to him being dead because she mentions a letter and how she feels bad that she didn't reach out to him when he needed help, but now there's nothing she could possibly do or say cause it's too late, so that's why she's saying all these things in this song, this is everything she wishes she could've said to him
Wow damn
I remember listening to this album for the first time when it came out, it was a hot summer night I went my garden, layed down and listened to the album. Listening to love song for the first time was an other wordly experience like I wasnt even in me during those 3 minutes. Even after the song finished I had to stop for a few minutes to pull myself together and get the waterworks to stop and seeing your reaction to love song just reminded me how it was for me. What I would give to relive that night and hear NFR for the first time again
I LOVED nfr with a burning passion, when it dropped I was just in a place where i related to everything about it. got me through some tough times
"How did you spend your Friday night?"
"Real gay drinking wine by myself and watching TH-cam videos of people reacting to Lana Del Rey's artistry."
Yes.
Sounds like the perfect evening hahaa
It’s exactly what I’m doing now jajajaja I love it
So glad that you saw that wild at heart samples how to disappear
And yes the line "liquor off the top shelf" is one fo the line in Carmen in Born To Die
I've been listening to this album so much since it came out in 2019
I love watching people in the internet falling in love with Lana. She is hands down one of the greatest artists in history.
they used the instrumental of How to Disappear on Wild at Heart and honestly both sound amazing
A win for my musical ear tbh ✌️
Awww, I cried with you. Love NFR, love your reaction 💖
I still remember her having snippets of Cinnamon Girl, Love Song, and Happiness is a butterfly on her instagram FOREVER before the album came out and so I would wander around singing these little one minute snippets I had memorized for months and months before album release day happened and we finally got the whole songs 😂🙈
Facts:
-In the gratest she sings about the fires in california and the ruin of US
- in mariners apartment complex she tells us that she is supportive and she will give us her hand if we fall
-in bartender she sings about to escape
In the cover she is escaping from LA because everything is in flames and she is offering us her hand to us to scape in the boat with her
ART
I guess it’s all up to interpretation because all of that seemed super contrived
What a beautiful promo for a masterpiece such as NFR 😍😍😍
We all cried to love song
Lana’s understanding of music of language of being in touch with her feelings and herself both dark and light, hopelessly hopeful… she’s really just stamped herself into history as one of the greatest song writers in modern history.
Doin time is actually a sublime cover! This whole album is everything, breathes life into my soul!!!!
It's 2022 and i still crying and loving this every night when i listen, her power ❤️🔥
This is my favorite album of all time, I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to it and what it means to me. But this analysis made me think of quite a few songs in a new way. The way you listen to, analyze, and embody the music you listen to is seriously incredible. Brava!
Easily the best album ever. I hope years later people study this album
Love Lana & this record is great but that’s a huge over exaggeration babes 💀 Maybe *her* best album
@@mirroredheart7292 please name the other records that are obviously better than this. Looking for new music
@@mirroredheart7292 Kate bush flopped
@@mirroredheart7292 Fiona apple is awesome, but still prefer this. Not into the rest you mentioned right now at least. Damn Lana's just so amazing
Also wild at heart actually sampled the same instrumental part from how to disappear 😂
the cinnomin girl being like a sequel in some ways really makes sense. someone said something about violet blue green red to keep me at arms length means the colour of bruises. i hope someone can theorise this better tbh im waffling.
I thought they were the colour of pills
She was dating that rapper at the time. Willing to believe she meant literal pills
@@Vichtyr09 i thought it was pills to but it just kinda makes sense a bit now
Venice B**** is about Venice Beach, a location in California (L.A.
Yeah I agree ❤️
Mariners Apartment Complex is also the song that made me cry while listening to the Album. I truly believe it is Lana’s masterpiece. Its incredibly human. When she said “I fucked up I know that but Jesus, cant a girl just do the best she can?” I felt that.
Best album of all the time
it’s a great album but it wasn’t even the best album of 2019 lmao
@@mirroredheart7292 kate bush stan talking isnt she already 6 feet under?
@@Dan-bd3vh sure ain’t but Lana will be soon if she keeps focusing on eating instead of making good music
@@mirroredheart7292 girl what...
@@mirroredheart7292 lmfao u r just jealous that kate bush is so irrelevant rn😭 lana at least keeps giving us culture resets
I just love you! You have such a gift for portraying the magic of music, particularly Lana’s. Her music makes me incredibly emotional and im so glad you’re able to really understand her and her music just like I do. Love your videos !
Wow thank you!
My favorite album ever released. Deserves so much more recognition.
Thank you for making this masterpiece, this got me through a rough night ❤️🥺
ok, next step: her audiobook of poems 'Violet Ben Backwards Over The Grass'. It's so good. Poetry at all its intimacy. Just, so good.
Sounds beautiful!
Nfr! Is my favorite album of all time, I cannot even describe the feelings I get whenever I listen to it. It’s timeless, wistful, nostalgic. It’s one of the few albums that will stand the test of time, yet it embodies time itself.
The mariner’s apartment complex song is about a prayer to god, that is why is so touching
I love that he stans Lianne La Havas such a good singer, songwritter and person
Yesss she’s so incredible
This album is legendary!! So beautifully constructed
The album would’ve been sm better if she’d left it off 😭
That's so interesting! I'll have to check it out
@@Luscent it is called Architecture. She was clearly frustrated when she wrote it and felt used.
LBC is Long Beach, California. But she’s referencing Sublime, paying homage to their version of this song.
I liked you perspective on bartender a lot! It’s my favorite song lol. I always thought it was about like struggles of fame and she’s like getting a new truck so the paparazzi don’t know where she’s at and she’s enjoying life with the bartender
NFR came out the month after my father passed. This album was the light in my very dark world at that time. Forever grateful for this masterpiece!
Doing time lifts the jazz song summertime but it's a cover of the Sublime Song Doing Time and was recorded for their documentary- added to the album after doing time did well on radio
I haven’t cried to the greatest like that in a minute!! Felt that with you. 💙
The Greatest might just be her best song ever
My favourite album ever. Love your reactions, i hope to see re- reactions !!
theres a famous 60s song called crimson and clover thats been covered by a lot of people including joan jett and the runaways (one of lana's inspos) which is the reference in venice bitch
Ohh cool!
Xx
Truly a masterpiece
Mariners Apartment Complex is about a guy Lana was talking to he said they could relate to each other because they’re both sad and she said she wasn’t sad and she would be his light so when she sings I’m your man it’s more her saying she’ll take the role of being the strong one in the relationship it’s not from a mans perspective
Your reactions and analyses are wonderful to view.
Aw thanks!
