Lana had this song before her previous album " Lust For Life " but she thought it didn't fit the album, So when she was making the album ( NFR! ), She knew she was going to put it on it as she had always loved it and she thought it fitted the album, So she changed some lyrics and some parts of the production, You could also see a scrapped music video of it during the LFL era, Which was later used as a " White Mustang " mv ( A song from LFL ) As she loved the mv . 11. It was sent to the grammys but didn't get nominated, The title track got nominated instead . 12. Bartender. She had the song since 2017 after making " Lust For Life ", She says to Pitchfork : I’ve got a couple of other tracks [to release in 2018]. I’ve got this weird track called ‘Bartender’ that doesn’t belong to a record yet . 13. Happiness Is A Butterfly. It is inspired by a novelist " Nathaniel Hawthorne " which mentioned the line " Happiness Is A Butterfly " In one of his novels . 14. Hope Is A Dangerous... . Lana Had been Journaling this song for years, It was the first track to be worked on for the album, It was one of the hardest tracks to write as Lana wanted to write what she wants in a very specific way inside her head, she released it as a single cause she was proud of it ( In 2018 ) And it basically told everyone that the album is going to be as strong the this song, Maybe it's a piano ballad, But lyrically it's much more than just that . this album means so much to me. it dropped during the happiest months of my life. but of course covid came in and ruined everything :( i keep listening to it almost every day just to remember how it felt to be happy. every song in this album is a master piece (even though i'm not a big fan of bartender or hope), i can appreciate them for their lyrical meanings. i will always love this album.

I love this breakdown! One thing I want to touch on is that I get a completely different vibe from How to Disappear, I hear it as a sympathetic or pitying story about people who you love but are losing themselves to addiction. "I watched the guys getting high as they fight for the things that they hold dear, to forget the things they fear" "you just crack another beer, and pretend that you're still here" reminds me so much about people getting lost in addiction. and how they may want to be getting clean or getting better to keep their loved ones in their lives, but because of the addiction they're still going and getting high. And at the end, they didn't get better , and did end up losing themselves which is why Lana is writing from the perspective of reminiscing about them years and years later.
OMG also the chorus of Mariners Apartment Complex when she says “just take my hand” and the album cover is fully with her hand reaching towards us….I’m dying

One thing I want to touch on is that I get a completely different vibe from How to Disappear, I hear it as a sympathetic or pitying story about people who you love but are losing themselves to addiction.
"I watched the guys getting high as they fight for the things that they hold dear, to forget the things they fear" "you just crack another beer, and pretend that you're still here" reminds me so much about people getting lost in addiction. and how they may want to be getting clean or getting better to keep their loved ones in their lives, but because of the addiction they're still going and getting high. And at the end, they didn't get better , and did end up losing themselves which is why Lana is writing from the perspective of reminiscing about them years and years later.
the greatest is about her leaving the life in new York and missing it after living all these years in California

I have a fun fact about Lana actually: she’s in my closest chain of ‘degrees of separation’ from Taylor Swift haha. My parents know her mom, aunt and mostly her (late) grandma, and I used to wear her hand-me-downs as a kid. 😂 - her grandma unfortunately passed away during Covid and my parents went to the funeral, although Lana wasn’t there.
